No. As of October 27, 2026, Valheim is not included in the Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass catalog. The current US Xbox listing shows a separate $29.99 purchase, and its cloud-play notice says Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate can stream the game only after you buy it. A Game Pass subscription by itself therefore does not unlock Valheim for download, PC play, console play, or cloud play.
Older pages are not necessarily wrong: Valheim was available through PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass during its earlier Game Preview period. That historical availability is why search results and player memories can conflict with the current listing.
Is Valheim on Game Pass right now?
No. The current US Xbox store listing does not show Valheim as an included Game Pass title. Instead, it presents the game as a separate purchase and labels cloud access as requiring the game to be purchased first.
This distinction matters because an Xbox store page can display Game Pass branding even when the game is not part of the subscription catalog. In Valheim’s case, the subscription supplies the cloud-play entitlement after ownership; it does not supply the Valheim license itself.

What the current listing says
- Xbox Game Pass catalog: Valheim is not currently included.
- PC Game Pass catalog: Valheim is not currently included.
- Cloud play: The Xbox listing allows cloud play with Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate only after the game has been purchased.
- US Xbox price: $29.99 on the listing checked October 27, 2026.
The catalog status and the price are region- and date-sensitive. The clearest check is the store page for your own account and country, especially if a search result is several years old.
Do I need to buy Valheim if I have Game Pass?
Yes. A subscription alone is not enough. You need a separate Valheim license for the platform or storefront you intend to use, then an eligible active subscription if you want to use the cloud option shown on Xbox.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| What you already have | Can you play Valheim? | What is required |
|---|---|---|
| Game Pass subscription only | No | Buy Valheim separately. |
| Valheim purchased through Microsoft Store | Yes on supported Microsoft platforms | Use the Microsoft account that owns the purchase. |
| Valheim purchased through Steam | Yes through Steam | Launch the Steam edition; a Game Pass subscription does not convert it into an Xbox license. |
| Valheim purchased plus Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate | Yes, including the cloud option identified on the Xbox listing | Keep both the game ownership and the qualifying active subscription. |
The table separates two rights that are often confused: ownership of the game and access to a subscription service. The current listing confirms that cloud play follows ownership rather than replacing it.
How much does Valheim cost without Game Pass?
The current US Xbox listing shows Valheim at $29.99. That is the price displayed for the US listing checked on October 27, 2026, not a claim that every country uses the same amount or currency.
Iron Gate Studio’s 1.0 FAQ also gives a new price of $29.99 and notes that regional prices can differ. Taxes, local currency conversion, and storefront policy can therefore make the amount at checkout different from the US figure. Treat $29.99 as the current US reference rather than a worldwide fixed price.
What the purchase buys
The separate purchase is the game license for the storefront you select. Iron Gate lists purchase availability through the Microsoft Store, Steam, the Mac App Store, Humble, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S storefronts. The exact buying button and account relationship depend on the platform, so select the edition that matches the device you will use.

There is no catalog discount to apply when Valheim is absent from Game Pass. A subscription can still be useful for other games or for cloud access, but it does not remove this purchase requirement.
Why do older articles say Valheim was on Game Pass?
Because it really was available through Game Pass earlier. Xbox Wire reported on March 14, 2023 that Valheim had launched on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as a Game Preview title with Xbox Game Pass, after being available on Windows PC through PC Game Pass for several months.
That announcement describes the 2022–2023 Game Preview period, not the catalog status in October 2026. Search engines often keep those pages highly visible, and players who joined during that period may remember downloading Valheim through their subscription. The historical “yes” and the current “no” refer to different dates.
Game Pass catalogs can change, so an old inclusion announcement should never be treated as proof of present access. Use the current store listing for the region and platform where you intend to play.
Can I play Valheim with Game Pass on Xbox, PC, or the cloud?
The answer depends on how you want to access it. Game Pass does not currently provide the game as an included download on Xbox or PC, while Xbox’s cloud label applies after purchase.
Xbox console
On Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, buy Valheim through the Microsoft Store or use a Microsoft Store purchase already attached to your account. Installing Game Pass without owning Valheim will not unlock the download.

Windows PC
PC Game Pass does not currently include Valheim. You can buy the Microsoft Store edition for Windows or purchase the Steam edition separately. Those are distinct storefront licenses, so check which account and launcher you want before paying.
Cloud play
The Xbox page identifies Valheim as cloud playable with Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate, but it also states that a game purchase is required. In practical terms, cloud play is an additional way to run a game you own; it is not a way to try Valheim solely because you subscribe.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Open the Xbox app or Microsoft Store while signed in to the account you plan to use.
- Search for “Valheim” and open the current product page.
- Look for the purchase control and the wording “Game purchase required” beneath the cloud-play information.
- Check the displayed currency and price for your region.
- After purchasing, return to the same account before attempting an Xbox install or cloud session.
If the page still presents a purchase button, Game Pass has not granted ownership. If you own the game but cloud play is unavailable, confirm that your subscription is an active Essential, Premium, or Ultimate plan and that you are using the purchasing account.
Which platforms support Valheim?
Iron Gate’s 1.0 FAQ lists Valheim availability on the following platforms and storefronts:
| Platform or storefront | Availability stated by Iron Gate |
|---|---|
| Xbox One | Listed for purchase |
| Xbox Series X|S | Listed for purchase |
| Windows through Microsoft Store | Listed for purchase |
| PlayStation 5 | Listed for purchase |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Listed for purchase |
| Steam | Listed for purchase |
| Mac | Listed through the Mac App Store |
| Humble | Listed as a purchase storefront |
Storefront availability does not mean that one purchase automatically grants every version. The entitlement rules are clearest for Microsoft’s ecosystem: Iron Gate says a Microsoft Store purchase also works on Xbox. No equivalent universal entitlement is stated for Steam, PlayStation, Nintendo, Mac, or Humble purchases.
Does a Microsoft Store purchase work on both PC and Xbox?
Yes, Iron Gate’s crossplay FAQ says a Microsoft Store purchase also works on Xbox. That makes the Microsoft Store route the relevant choice for someone who wants the Windows and Xbox versions under Microsoft’s account system.

Iron Gate also says the Microsoft Store, Xbox, and Steam versions have no gameplay differences and continue to receive updates at the same pace. The statement is about the versions’ game content and update timing; it does not turn separate storefront purchases into one universal license.
“We strive to make all versions of Valheim as similar as possible to each other, and there should be no noticeable differences in the gameplay,” — Henrik Törnqvist, Iron Gate Studio co-founder.
Does Valheim support crossplay and how many players can join?
Valheim supports crossplay between all platforms listed in Iron Gate’s 1.0 FAQ. The same FAQ gives a player range of 1–10 players, so a group can include people using supported console, PC, Mac, or other listed versions rather than being limited to one hardware family.
Crossplay is separate from Game Pass inclusion. Owning the game through another storefront can still allow you to play with friends on different platforms, subject to each player’s platform account and the game’s current online requirements. Game Pass is not required merely because another member of a cross-platform group uses Xbox.
Which buying option makes sense for you?
Choose based on where you want to play and whether cloud access matters, not on the Game Pass badge shown in a store search.
| Your situation | Most direct route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You only have Game Pass and want to play now | Buy Valheim separately | The current catalog does not include it. |
| You switch between Windows and Xbox | Microsoft Store purchase | Iron Gate says that purchase also works on Xbox. |
| You already use Steam on PC | Steam purchase | The Steam edition is listed separately and has the same gameplay and update pace as the Microsoft Store and Xbox versions. |
| You want to stream instead of install | Buy Valheim, then use an eligible Game Pass cloud plan | The Xbox listing requires ownership before cloud play. |
| Your friends use different platforms | Any supported edition, purchased through its platform | Iron Gate’s 1.0 FAQ confirms crossplay across the listed platforms. |
What should you check before paying?
- Region: Confirm your local currency and final checkout amount; $29.99 is the current US reference.
- Storefront: Decide between Microsoft Store, Steam, Mac App Store, Humble, PlayStation, or Nintendo before purchasing.
- Device: Make sure the edition is intended for your Windows PC, Xbox, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, or Mac.
- Cloud expectation: Do not assume a cloud icon means catalog inclusion. The Xbox listing explicitly requires a purchase.
- Account: Buy while signed in to the account that will install the game or start the cloud session.
- Friends’ platforms: Crossplay is supported, but everyone still needs access to the game on their own platform.
What if an old Game Pass result still appears?
Check the date and wording of the result. A March 2023 Xbox announcement can accurately describe the Game Preview catalog at that time while saying nothing about the current catalog.

Next, open the live product page rather than relying on a search snippet. A purchase button and the phrase “Game purchase required” are stronger evidence of current access than an archived article, a forum comment, or a remembered download.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a confirmed date for Valheim to return to Game Pass?
No return date is established in the current official information. Because subscription catalogs change, check the live Xbox and PC Game Pass listings rather than relying on the 2023 Game Preview announcement.
Does the $29.99 price apply in every country?
No. The $29.99 figure is the current US Xbox listing, and Iron Gate says regional prices can differ. Your local storefront may show another currency or total.
Can I buy a physical Xbox or Nintendo copy instead?
The authoritative availability information identifies digital storefront purchases and does not identify a central physical edition for this availability question. Verify any retailer listing carefully before assuming it changes Game Pass access.
Recommended Free Tools
Why can I see cloud-play language when Valheim is not included?
The cloud label describes a way to run a game you already own through an eligible subscription. For Valheim, the Xbox listing pairs that label with a requirement to purchase the game first.
