Facebook group admins can reverse specific Admin Assist actions and change the criteria that trigger automated moderation. They can also review Admin AI’s signals about pending posts before deciding what to approve. But Meta’s published information does not establish a universal switch that turns off every AI-related feature in every group; the controls available depend on the tool and its rollout.
What does “AI moderation” mean in a Facebook group?
Facebook uses two related tools that affect moderation differently: Admin Assist and Admin AI. The distinction matters when you are trying to stop a particular outcome. One can take actions based on administrator-configured criteria; the other helps administrators assess items waiting in a queue.

These descriptions come from Meta’s June 2021 Admin Assist announcement and its October 23, 2026 announcement describing Admin AI. They do not establish that every group has both tools, or that every administrator sees the same controls.

You may be able to change or undo particular automated actions, but the official material available does not confirm a single setting that disables every AI-related moderation feature across all groups. Treat the controls as feature-specific: adjust Admin Assist criteria for its automatic actions, and handle Admin AI’s pending-item signals through the review process.

That distinction avoids a common dead end. A control that changes an Admin Assist rule is not necessarily a switch for Admin AI, and a pending-post review decision does not necessarily change the rules that govern future automatic actions. Meta’s descriptions support changing criteria and reversing specific actions, not a guaranteed group-wide “all AI off” setting.
If your goal is to make a particular type of decision manual, identify the Admin Assist criterion and action involved, then see whether that criterion can be edited or removed in your group’s available controls. For Admin AI, the described workflow already leaves the approval decision to admins for pending posts. Do not assume that changing one surface affects the other.
How do I stop Admin Assist from automatically approving or declining posts?
Review the criteria behind the action and modify the relevant rule if your group has that control. Meta says admins can browse, add, edit and combine criteria; its examples include post length, links and prior moderation actions. The exact menu path and available action types are not established consistently for every group, so use the Admin Assist controls shown in your group rather than relying on instructions for another group’s interface.

- Identify the tool and outcome. Establish whether the item was handled automatically by Admin Assist or is still pending with an Admin AI signal. A pending item with a compliance label is not, by itself, the same as an automatic approval or decline.
- Inspect the applicable criteria. In the group’s Admin Assist controls, look for the rule or combination of criteria that matches the affected content or member history. Meta’s examples include post length, link use and prior moderation actions.
- Adjust the rule if the control is available. Edit, refine or remove the relevant criterion, or create a custom rule that better reflects the group’s policy. Make a targeted change rather than assuming you must disable all automation.
- Check the result on later items. Confirm that the revised criterion changes the outcome you intended. A change to one rule does not establish that other Admin Assist rules—or Admin AI—have been changed.
Meta does not publish one set of exact navigation labels in the material describing these controls. Facebook also documents manual group settings for allowed post formats and member activity limits, but says availability can vary by group. Those settings can help shape group activity; they should not be mistaken for a universal AI-moderation switch.
Can I undo what Facebook’s AI moderator did?
For specific Admin Assist actions, yes: Meta’s June 2021 announcement says, “Admins have the option to undo specific actions from Admin Assist, or to change and refine criteria over time.” This supports reversing an individual action and adjusting the rule for future cases; it does not promise that every action is reversible or that an undo automatically changes the underlying criterion.
If a post or request is still pending and Admin AI has only labeled it, there may be no automatic action to undo. The October 23, 2026 description says admins decide what to approve, so the relevant step is to make the decision in the pending queue. If the item has already been acted on by Admin Assist, look for the available undo control for that specific action and review the triggering criterion separately.

Can I make all moderation manual?
The official material cited here does not confirm a universal way to make every moderation decision manual. Admins can revise Admin Assist criteria and undo certain actions, while Meta describes Admin AI as providing a signal on pending items for admins to consider. The practical answer is to review each tool’s available controls and make the relevant decisions manually where those controls allow it—not to assume one switch covers both.

Why don’t I see the same Admin Assist settings as another group?
Feature availability can differ by group, app surface and rollout. Meta’s Help Center materials also describe some manual group controls as varying by group. As a result, another admin’s screenshots or instructions may not match the controls available in your group; a missing option is not proof that you overlooked a universal setting.

- Check the group’s administrator tools in the Facebook surface you normally use, and compare the controls actually shown there rather than assuming another group has the same menu.
- Confirm whether you are looking at Admin Assist rules or the Admin AI pending-item workflow; they are separate surfaces.
- If a control is absent, use the available criteria and manual moderation options, and avoid treating the absence as evidence that every automated action can be switched off.
Meta’s October 23, 2026 description is the newest source cited here. Product features and rollout status can change, so the interface available to your group is more reliable for current control availability than a general description of the feature.

Group rules and automated criteria can be tailored, but they do not replace Facebook’s platform-wide rules. Meta states that all posts remain subject to Facebook Community Standards, including when admins configure custom moderation rules. Admin control over group moderation is therefore not permission to allow content that violates those standards.
Meta put the point this way in its October 23, 2026 announcement: “As always, admins stay in control of what they allow in their group and all posts are subject to our Community Standards.” In practice, use group-specific criteria to implement the group’s rules while keeping platform standards as a separate boundary.

Which control should I use for the problem I’m seeing?
Start with the item’s status and the action already taken. That determines whether you need to change a rule, make a queue decision or reverse an action.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Admin AI automatically reject a post when it says the post may break group rules?
Meta’s October 23, 2026 description characterizes Admin AI’s label as a triage signal and says admins decide what to approve. A label that flags possible noncompliance should therefore be read as information for review, not as proof that a rejection has already happened.
Can group members change Admin Assist settings?
The controls described by Meta are administrator controls. The published material cited here does not establish a member-facing setting for changing Admin Assist criteria or overriding an administrator’s moderation configuration.
Do custom group rules override Facebook Community Standards?
No. Meta says posts remain subject to Community Standards even when group admins configure custom moderation rules. A group’s criteria govern its own moderation choices within that platform-wide boundary.
If I undo an Admin Assist action, will it stop the same thing from happening again?
Not necessarily. Undoing a specific action reverses that case; preventing similar future outcomes requires reviewing and refining the criteria that produced it, if those controls are available in the group.
