Yes. One MP4 can supply the repeated sleep-sounds audio and visuals for a 24/7 YouTube Live stream if encoder software, such as OBS Studio, loops the file and sends the resulting feed to YouTube. The MP4 is the program source; it does not transmit itself. Your encoder and the computer or cloud service running it must remain operational for the stream to continue. OBS Media Sources supports MP4 and a Loop setting, and YouTube supports encoder-based live streams.
What one MP4 can—and cannot—do
With OBS, add the MP4 as a Media Source and enable Loop. OBS restarts playback when the file reaches its end, so a single recording can repeat as the program content. Check the loop transition before broadcasting, especially for a gap, click, abrupt change in ambience, or mismatched audio level.
The loop setting only controls playback of the source. It does not keep the live broadcast online by itself. An encoder must send the output to YouTube, and the encoder environment needs working power and internet. A local computer restart, connection outage, or software failure can stop the feed. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health, but the cited guidance does not establish an uptime guarantee for any configuration. YouTube live streaming tips
Set up the stream in OBS and YouTube
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-stream restrictions in the prior 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. Check the current status in YouTube Studio before planning a launch. Get started with live streaming
- Add and test the file in OBS. Add a Media Source, select the MP4, and enable Loop. OBS lists MP4 among its supported video formats. Play through the file’s ending and restart point to confirm the transition sounds acceptable. OBS Media Sources
- Create the YouTube live event and connect OBS. In YouTube’s live control room, create or schedule the event and copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who gets it may be able to send video to your channel. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transmission. Manage live stream settings
- Configure the outgoing encoder stream. Choose an output resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video options; AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS; constant bitrate (CBR); and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. These settings apply to the encoded feed sent to YouTube, not necessarily to the codec inside the MP4 source. Choose live encoder settings
- Test before going live, then monitor stream health. Confirm that YouTube receives video and audio, that the picture and sound are acceptable, and that the loop transition works. Keep the encoder, source file, power, and internet connection available for the duration you want to broadcast. YouTube live streaming tips
Plan for archives and viewer rewind
A 24/7 broadcast is not the same as a dependable full-length replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving a replay matters, record locally and verify that recording; alternatively, end and restart separate broadcasts comfortably before the threshold, understanding that this interrupts the continuous broadcast and can produce multiple live entries. DVR rewind is a separate concern: YouTube says it may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers therefore may not be able to rewind across the full duration or rely on pause and resume to cover the entire stream. YouTube DVR guidance
Use audio and visuals you have rights to stream
Use only material you are authorized to include in the live broadcast and any resulting archive. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content; if a match remains after a warning, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even if you licensed third-party material, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption. Copyright issues with live streams

YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed for worldwide use of the live content, including applicable music rights. Check that an audio license covers live streaming, relevant territories, and replay or archive use. Being able to play a track from an MP4 does not establish permission to broadcast it. For a local OBS setup, your computer and internet connection must stay available, and you are responsible for noticing and responding to failures. YouTube also identifies cloud-based prerecorded-video playout as an encoder workflow category; compare services on monitoring, recovery, and whether you need a separate local recording. Do not assume any provider has a particular uptime or recovery behavior without checking its current terms and features. YouTube encoder setup
