You can connect public tender notices to an AI assistant by retrieving notices from a procurement API, converting the results into a small, consistent set of fields, and asking the assistant to summarize and prioritize them. For EU published notices, start with the European Commission’s TED Search API, which does not require authentication. For U.S. federal opportunities, use SAM.gov’s API, which requires a public API key and posted-date bounds. If you need one European REST integration, TenderAPI says it collects notices from TED and national portals.
The five-minute version is a working prototype, not a production-grade monitoring service: make one request, pass the relevant records as JSON or a compact table, and preserve each notice’s original URL and deadline so you can check the assistant’s conclusions.
What does it mean to connect tenders to an AI assistant?
It means adding a retrieval step before the assistant answers. A procurement portal or tender-data service supplies notices; a workflow step—such as an HTTP node, function, or small script—passes selected notice details to the assistant as structured input. The assistant can then summarize matches, compare them with your criteria, and flag details that need human review.
The assistant is not the source of the notices in this setup. The API request retrieves them, and the assistant interprets the records it receives. This distinction matters: a polished summary is only as current and complete as the records passed into the prompt.

The European Commission Publications Office describes TED APIs as a way to “Retrieve published procurement notices from the TED website for analysis or reuse.” SAM.gov’s API returns published opportunity details. TenderAPI describes its service as collecting public tenders from TED and national procurement portals across Europe through one REST API.
Which source should I choose?
Choose according to the territory and portals you need, not simply which connection looks easiest. TED is the official starting point for EU notices published on TED; SAM.gov is the federal U.S. option; TenderAPI may simplify a multi-country European integration but adds a vendor dependency.
| Source | Best fit | Authentication and request considerations | Coverage and trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| TED Search API | Published procurement notices on TED, for EU-focused retrieval and reuse. | The Search API does not require authentication. TED documents expert queries and bulk downloads; verify the current query options and applicable limits in its documentation. | Official TED notices. The available data does not establish that it covers every national portal or provides all notices outside TED. |
| SAM.gov Get Opportunities API | U.S. federal opportunities. | Requires a public API key and posted-date bounds. The API requires pagination; account for that if a query can return multiple pages. | SAM.gov describes opportunities as including pre-solicitation, solicitation, award, and sole source notices. This is not a general feed for every state or local procurement portal. |
| TenderAPI | A European REST integration when collecting from TED and national procurement portals through one service is useful. | Requires a bearer key. Check current API documentation for query, quota, and commercial terms. | Its stated coverage can reduce the number of portal connectors to build, but it creates vendor dependency. Confirm that its specific country and portal coverage fits your needs. |
Authentication, quotas, coverage, and schema details can change. The comparison above states only what is established in the cited service documentation; it is not a claim that any source is exhaustive or that the three options return identical records.

How do I build the five-minute version?
For a quick prototype, make one API request for a narrow search and pass only useful notice fields to the assistant. You can do this in an HTTP node, a function step, or a small script; the exact interface depends on the workflow tool you already use.

- Pick the geography. Use TED for notices published on TED, SAM.gov for federal U.S. opportunities, or TenderAPI if a single European REST connection fits your coverage needs.
- Prepare access. TED’s Search API is anonymous. For SAM.gov, obtain a public API key and include posted-date bounds. For TenderAPI, use its bearer key as instructed by its current documentation. Keep credentials in your workflow’s secret or credential store rather than in the prompt or shared output.
- Choose a focused search. Specify a keyword, classification where supported, geography, and date window. A focused first query makes it easier to check whether the returned notices are relevant before adding more complex filtering.
- Make one request and inspect the response. Confirm that the request returns notices for the intended territory and period. Do not assume field names or response shape are identical between providers; use the selected API’s current documentation.
- Normalize the records. Map each result to a compact common structure. Include the notice title, buyer, deadline, location or place of performance, classification code, short description, publication date, and original source URL when available.
- Pass the records to the assistant. Send the normalized records as JSON or a compact table, then ask for a relevance summary that separates facts copied from the notices from the assistant’s prioritization.
- Check the output against the source. Open the original notice URL and verify any deadline or other decisive detail before acting on the summary.
A minimal normalized record can use keys such as these. They describe the fields to preserve, not a provider’s native response format:
{
"title": "",
"buyer": "",
"publication_date": "",
"deadline": "",
"location": "",
"classification_code": "",
"description": "",
"source_url": ""
}
For a five-minute test, begin with one request and a small result set. The point is to establish the retrieval-to-summary path, not to imply that one request is a complete or recurring monitoring system.
What should I ask the assistant to do?
Give the assistant a specific screening task and make clear that it must not fill gaps in a notice with guesses. For example:
Review the tender records below against these requirements: [describe your requirements].
For each record, report:
- the notice title and buyer;
- the stated deadline and location;
- which stated requirements appear to match, with the evidence from the notice;
- any missing, unclear, or conflicting information;
- a priority rating with a short reason;
- the original source URL.
Separate facts present in the notice from your own prioritization. Do not infer a deadline or eligibility condition that is not stated. Flag records that need human review.
Replace the bracketed instruction with your actual screening criteria before using the prompt. A useful answer should preserve the source URL and identify the facts behind each match, rather than returning a bare ranking. That lets a reader distinguish a notice’s wording from the assistant’s judgment.

How do I make the monitor reliable beyond a one-off test?
A working request is not yet a dependable monitor. Production use needs to account for result volume, changing data, duplicate notices, failed requests, and the consequences of overlooking a deadline.
Handle pagination and retries
SAM.gov explicitly documents pagination for its Get Opportunities API, so a single returned page may not represent all matching opportunities. Follow the current API instructions to retrieve subsequent pages. For any source, add retry handling for transient request failures and make sure the workflow reports an incomplete run rather than silently treating partial results as a complete search.
Preserve traceability
Keep the source URL, publication date, and deadline alongside each record. If the assistant paraphrases a requirement or ranks an opportunity highly, a reviewer should be able to trace that output back to the notice. Treat a missing or ambiguous deadline as a flag for review, not as a value for the assistant to infer.

Different sources may use different field names or represent comparable details differently. Normalize them before prompting so the assistant receives a stable structure. If you combine sources, plan to identify duplicate notices; the available documentation summarized here does not establish that cross-source results are automatically deduplicated.

Verify coverage and terms
For an official portal, confirm that its scope matches the opportunities you need. For a hosted aggregator, check the current country and portal coverage, query capabilities, quotas, and commercial terms before depending on it. An integration that reduces connector work is useful only if its actual coverage meets your requirements.
What are the main limitations of an AI tender workflow?
The workflow can speed up discovery and screening, but it does not establish that a notice is complete, that the assistant interpreted it correctly, or that your organization is eligible to bid. Keep final decisions tied to the original procurement documents and any official clarifications.
- Stale or incomplete retrieval: the assistant can only assess records supplied by the retrieval step. A date window, failed page, or limited portal scope can leave relevant notices out.
- Ambiguous notice language: ask the assistant to identify uncertainty explicitly. Do not treat a confident-sounding summary as resolution of an unclear deadline or requirement.
- Provider differences: filtering, schemas, authentication, quotas, and portal coverage vary. Do not carry assumptions from one connector over to another.
- Changing interfaces: API rules and commercial terms can change. Verify the current provider documentation when building or maintaining the workflow.
SAM.gov’s documentation says its opportunities include pre-solicitation notices, solicitation notices, award notices, and sole source notices. That range is a reminder to make the assistant classify what it is seeing rather than treating every returned record as an open bid opportunity.
Which approach is right for a first build?
Use the simplest source that genuinely covers your target territory. For EU published TED notices, the anonymous Search API is a straightforward official starting point. For U.S. federal opportunity retrieval, SAM.gov is the relevant source, with its API key, date-bound query, and pagination requirements. If you need European national-portal coverage through one connection, evaluate TenderAPI’s stated coverage and terms before choosing it.

Whichever route you take, keep the pipeline small and auditable: retrieve, normalize, summarize, and verify. That is the useful five-minute outcome—a tested bridge between a tender feed and an assistant—not a promise that a brief setup replaces ongoing monitoring or review.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an AI assistant submit a tender response through this setup?
No submission capability is established by this retrieval-and-summary workflow. It is designed to find and interpret notices; bid preparation, eligibility decisions, and submission require separate processes and review.
Will the assistant automatically know when a new tender appears?
Not from a one-off API request. A recurring monitor needs a scheduler or another trigger to run retrieval repeatedly, plus a way to track which notices have already been seen.
Can I use this workflow for state or local U.S. bids?
SAM.gov’s described scope here is U.S. federal opportunities, not a universal state and local feed. Check the relevant government portals or a provider’s stated coverage for the jurisdictions you need.
Should I send complete tender documents to the assistant?
The five-minute pattern uses selected notice fields, especially a short description and source URL. Whether full documents can be retrieved and processed depends on the source, your workflow, and the assistant’s capabilities; those details are not established for these APIs here.
