Manual Lift & Look
During a cycle, raise the carriage manually to inspect the slice. The cycle is designed to continue rather than being cancelled, allowing you to check colour without committing to a full extra programme. The feature is especially helpful when changing bread brands or using a setting for the first time.
A Bit More
A Bit More adds extra browning time after the normal cycle. It is intended for a slice that is close to the desired colour, not as a replacement for selecting the correct browning level. Repeatedly using it on every cycle may indicate that your chosen level is too low or that the bread is unusually moist.
Frozen
Frozen is intended for bread taken directly from a freezer. Thawing changes the moisture and timing, so do not assume a frozen slice will match a fresh slice at the same dial position. The control is a programme description, not a published measurement of defrosting or toasting speed.
Fruit Bread

- Begin at a middle browning level rather than the maximum setting.
- Use Lift & Look once the first cycle is near completion and note whether the colour is consistent across slices.

Will thick, large or unusual bread fit?

Four slots do not automatically mean four independent browning controls. The published feature descriptions identify the six levels and named programmes but do not establish separate controls for each slot or pair. If independent timing is essential, verify that point in the exact manual or local listing before purchase.
How much bench space does it need?
Plan for approximately 20.8cm of width, 28.2cm of depth and 29cm of height, plus room to operate the levers and remove the crumb tray. CHOICE reports 28 × 29 × 21cm, which is consistent once the dimension order and rounding are considered. In either presentation, depth is close to 28–29cm and can be the limiting measurement on a shallow counter.
Measure the usable worktop, not just an open shelf. Leave clearance so the carriage can rise fully and so you can pull the appliance forward for cleaning. The stainless finish can suit a visible counter, but its appearance does not reduce the clearance needed around a hot appliance.
What is daily cleaning and handling like?
Retailer material describes a removable crumb tray, which makes routine crumb removal easier than on a toaster with a fixed base. Empty it regularly and follow the Breville manual for the approved cleaning method; do not immerse the appliance or pour liquid into the slots.
