Yes—but only the Japanese service is confirmed to change hands. Yostar has announced that Nexon will assume Blue Archive’s Japanese development, live operations, publishing, and promotion in 2027, with reporting placing the operational change around January. Nexon producer Yong-ha Kim is also considering animation, manga, novels, and new game genres, but those projects have not been formally approved or scheduled.
The existing squad-based tactical RPG remains active on mobile and Steam. NEXON is still releasing event stories and recruitable characters, so the expansion effort is about extending the live-service universe rather than replacing the current game.
Is Nexon taking over Blue Archive from Yostar?
For Japan, yes. Yostar announced that Nexon will take responsibility for development, live operations, publishing, and promotion of the Japanese Blue Archive service in 2027. Published reporting places the operational handover around January 2027, although a final day-by-day transition schedule has not been announced.

It does not by itself confirm a change to every regional server, the global publishing arrangement, or the game’s account-transfer procedures. Players outside Japan should wait for notices from their own regional operator rather than assuming that the Japanese timetable applies to them.

What is Nexon planning beyond the current game?
Nexon’s stated ambition is to develop Blue Archive as a broader multimedia intellectual property. Kim Yong-ha has discussed animation, manga, novels, and games in genres that differ from the current squad-based tactical RPG. He described these as possibilities and said there were no concrete plans yet.
That distinction matters: no named spin-off, production start, release window, platform, budget, distributor, or streaming agreement has been announced. The comments establish a direction for future exploration, not a slate of confirmed products.
Which new game genres have been mentioned?
Kim specifically cited a third-person shooter, a deserted-island survival game, and a strategy role-playing game using Blue Archive characters as concepts worth exploring. Their status is best understood as early ideation.
| Potential format | What has been publicly discussed | Current status |
|---|---|---|
| Third-person shooter | A possible action game using the franchise’s characters and setting | Concept only; no title, developer, platform, or date |
| Deserted-island survival | A survival-oriented scenario separate from the school-based tactical format | Concept only; no production announcement |
| Strategy RPG | An SRPG built around Blue Archive characters | Concept only; no production announcement |
These ideas would require different combat systems, content pipelines, ratings decisions, and platform support from the existing game. Until Nexon announces a specific project, it is not possible to say whether any of them will ship or how closely they would follow the current storyline.

Will Blue Archive become an anime, manga, or novel franchise?
Those formats are part of the ambition, not confirmed adaptations. A September 2025 producer interview described Blue Archive as “also growing beyond just a game” and said the team was weighing expansion into other media while considering the practical challenges.
The statement supports a continuing strategy rather than a completed deal. No animation studio, manga magazine, publisher, streaming service, cast, production committee, or release date has been identified. Any future adaptation could therefore be announced independently of the Japanese service handover.
Is a Blue Archive trading-card game coming?
No signed trading-card game has been announced. At Anime Expo 2026, executive and producer Lee Junho said a TCG could be an excellent fit, invited interested partners to begin a discussion, and said the team was open to multiple partnerships.

What does the expansion mean for the existing Blue Archive game?
The live service continues on its current platforms. NEXON is releasing new event stories and recruitable characters for the mobile and Steam versions, and the Japanese operating change is intended to give Nexon more direct control in one of the franchise’s major markets.
Nothing in the announced plans says that the tactical RPG will be discontinued or replaced by a spin-off. Future projects could share characters and world-building, but the companies have not described a required purchase, account connection, progression transfer, or change to the core game.
How certain is each proposed expansion?
Every newly mentioned format remains low-certainty because no production has been formally announced. The practical differences between them are substantial:

What should players watch for next?
The announcements that would turn the expansion story into concrete news are straightforward:

- A formal Japanese-service transition notice with dates, maintenance windows, account instructions, and customer-support contacts.
- A named studio, publisher, distributor, or licensing partner attached to a specific adaptation or game.
- A project title, platform, production status, and release window for any shooter, survival game, SRPG, animation, manga, novel, or TCG.
- Clarification about which regions and language versions are covered by each announcement.
- Official merchandise licensing details identifying the manufacturer and territories, rather than relying on fan listings or unverified marketplace claims.
Until those details appear, the reliable picture is a Japanese operating transition in 2027, an active mobile-and-Steam service, and a set of openly discussed but uncommitted ways to broaden Blue Archive.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Japanese handover change Blue Archive servers outside Japan?
No regional change outside Japan has been announced as part of the handover. The public commitment names the Japanese development, operations, publishing, and promotion, so players elsewhere should follow notices from their own service operator.
Has Nexon given a release date for the shooter or survival game?
No. Neither concept has a confirmed title, platform, developer, production start, or release window, and the producer’s comments explicitly describe them as ideas under consideration.
How can a company pursue a Blue Archive partnership?
The team said at Anime Expo 2026 that it was open to multiple partnerships and invited interested TCG partners to start a discussion. No public application process, partner list, or guaranteed licensing route has been published.
Could a future Blue Archive adaptation tell a different story?
That has not been decided publicly. The announced ambition covers several media and genres, but no adaptation team or narrative scope has been named, so continuity, canon status, and viewpoint remain unknown.
