The reliable way to block Grand Theft Auto VI while you work is to combine separate child and adult profiles, an age restriction, a weekday schedule and a passcode-protected adult account. On PlayStation, playable-hours controls cover the whole console; on Xbox, you can add a limit for GTA 6 itself while leaving other games available. Do not apply family limits to a shared adult profile: anyone who knows its passcode can undo them or launch the installed game.
Rockstar lists GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026. As of 29 October 2026 it is still pre-launch, so configure the family accounts and security settings before the download completes.
Why an account setup matters more than hiding the GTA 6 icon
Grand Theft Auto VI is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. The rating summary says: “Grand Theft Auto VI is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. Also includes In-Game Purchases.”

An age filter blocks a child account from launching the game even when the game is already installed. It does not protect an adult profile that signs in automatically, and it does not stop somebody creating a guest or new user. Family limits are attached to accounts in a family group, not to a disc or console icon.

What should you set up before the game arrives?
Create the family structure first, then apply age, time and spending controls. A child must have a separate account with the real date of birth; an adult must be the family manager or appointed parent/guardian.
- PlayStation: In Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management, add each child, verify the email and set the child’s time zone. The PlayStation Family app provides the same family-management flow remotely.
- Xbox: Create a family group at account.microsoft.com/family or in the Xbox Family Settings app, add the child as a child member, and enable content restrictions, screen time and Ask to Buy.
- Give every child a separate profile. Do not put a six-year-old and a twelve-year-old under one account with one filter.
- Set PlayStation’s monthly spending limit to 0 by default, and keep Xbox Ask to Buy enabled until you deliberately approve purchases.
- Set a four-digit PlayStation login passcode or a six-digit Xbox passkey on every adult profile. Turn off, or PIN, Guest and Add New User.
- Never let the console auto-sign into the adult profile. A child restriction on a different account cannot protect an unlocked adult session.
How do you block GTA 6 completely on PlayStation 5?
Use the child’s age level, not an icon-hiding option. Because GTA 6 is an M-rated game, a child level below 17 blocks its launch while leaving the game available to an approved adult profile.
- Sign in as the family manager and open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management, or open the PlayStation Family app and choose Settings > Family Management.
- Select the child, then open Parental Controls > Age Level for Games and Apps (PS5/PS4 and PS3). In the app, use Games and Apps > Age Level for PS5 Games.
- Choose the child’s real age level. Sony’s presets include Child, Early Teens, Late Teens or Older, plus Customize; the setting cannot be higher than the child’s recorded birthday.
- Save the restriction. The child sees a lock when trying to open GTA 6 and can send a request. You can approve only that title under Allowed Games instead of opening every M-rated game.
- Open Playtime Settings later if the child may play other permitted games after school.
For spending, PlayStation says the monthly spending limit is 0 by default. Child purchases use the family manager’s wallet, so leave that limit at zero unless you have decided otherwise.
How do you block GTA 6 completely on Xbox Series X|S?
Use the Xbox Family Settings app or the Microsoft family website. The child’s content filter should be below the adult tier; Microsoft’s age examples show that an 11-year setting allows up to E10+ but not T or M content.

- Open Content restrictions or Filter inappropriate content and choose the child’s age level.
- Keep Ask to Buy enabled so an approval request is required for purchases or exceptions.
- Review Activity reports to see which games were launched.
- On the console, enable signed-out content restrictions so GTA 6 cannot be opened after the child is signed out.
The age cap still permits an adult account to play the installed copy. It prevents the child account from launching it; it does not delete the installation.
How do you schedule PlayStation work hours?
PlayStation’s schedule is console-wide. It can stop a child using GTA 6 during a weekday block, but it also stops that child using other games during the same block.
- Sign in as family manager and go to Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management > child.
- Set the child’s Time Zone correctly, then open Playtime Settings.
- Turn on Restrict Playtime and choose Duration and Playable Hours.
- Select Same Every Day or By the Days of the Week. For a work-from-home schedule, choose each weekday and set the allowed start and end times, such as 17:30 to 20:00 for a 09:00–17:30 workday.
- Under When Playtime Ends, choose Log Out for a hard stop. Notify Only displays warnings but does not block continued play.
- Save each day’s settings. The same controls can be edited at Account Management > Family Management on the web.
Notifications appear as time runs out, and a child can request more time. The family manager can approve extra time, change the limit for that day or decline. The restriction follows the child account across PS5 and PS4 consoles in the same household.

How do you schedule Xbox work hours and limit only GTA 6?
Xbox gives you two layers: a device schedule and an optional per-game cap. The device schedule controls when the child may use the console; the GTA 6 limit can leave other titles available.
Set the weekly device schedule
- Open Xbox Family Settings or the Microsoft family account and select the child.
- Set how much time the child may use the device on each day and the allowed time range. Weekdays can be different from Saturday and Sunday.
- Remember that the countdown starts when the child signs in and stops when the child signs out. Idle signed-in time consumes the allowance, so the child should sign out when leaving.
- Use the app’s pause option when a meeting, dinner or another immediate interruption begins.
Add a GTA 6-specific limit
- In the Microsoft family group, choose the child’s screen-time controls and the option to set a limit for a specific game or app.
- After GTA 6 is installed and appears in the list, select it and set weekday access to zero during work hours or allow only the after-work window.
- Leave the device schedule and limits for other games at the levels you want. Per-game limits are shared across the child’s Xbox consoles and Windows devices through the Microsoft account.
The exact game row may not appear until the title is installed. Set the device schedule now, then add the GTA 6 rule on launch day, 19 November 2026, or whenever the household downloads it. Xbox displays notifications as the allowance approaches its end and records activity reports.
What if two adults share the console?
Neither platform provides a supported parental schedule for one adult to block another adult from GTA 6. Family playtime tools are designed for child members, so do not create a fake child account to impose a timer on a roommate or partner.

- Use separate adult profiles, each protected by its own login passcode or passkey.
- Disable Guest and Add New User, or require the console PIN for both.
- Keep GTA 6 on the adult profile that is allowed to launch it, and never leave that profile signed in.
- Use a household calendar, rest mode or power-off during meetings. A headset can reduce noise, but it is a courtesy rather than a technical block.
If the problem is a shared television rather than a child’s access, these account and household rules are the enforceable options. A child-style timer on an adult account is not an official solution.

What should you do about purchases and communication?
The ESRB record flags In-Game Purchases, but that wording does not establish a particular online mode, voice-chat feature or random-item system at launch. Keep financial approval separate from the play schedule.
- On PlayStation, retain the 0 monthly spending limit or set a deliberate amount only after reviewing who can buy.
- On Xbox, leave Ask to Buy enabled; the organizer receives approval requests and can review order history.
- PlayStation Communication and User-Generated Content restrictions can block text and voice communication, sharing or viewing user content and some linked communication apps. Xbox provides controls for multiplayer, clubs, broadcasting, friends and communication.
These communication settings improve safety but do not enforce work hours, inspect dialogue, remove violent or sexual scenes, keep a transcript or stop a playthrough on another device.
Worked example: a parent, a teen and a younger child
Suppose an adult works in the same room from 09:00 to 17:30 Monday through Friday. A teen may play GTA 6 after homework, while a younger child must never launch it.

- Younger child: separate child account, age level below M, spending set to zero and communication restricted.
- Teen: child account with an approved GTA 6 exception if the household allows it; on PlayStation, Playable Hours 17:30–20:00 on weekdays and When Playtime Ends set to Log Out; on Xbox, the device schedule plus a GTA 6 limit of zero minutes until 17:30.
- Adult: passcode-protected profile, no auto-sign-in, and GTA 6 available there if adults play it.
- Console: guest and new-user creation locked, with signed-out content restricted on Xbox.

- On a weekday morning, sign in as the child and try to open GTA 6. An age block or schedule should refuse access.
- Leave other permitted games available and confirm whether the platform-wide PlayStation timer blocks them too; on Xbox, confirm that the GTA 6 rule is the only game-specific block you intended.
- Sign out, try Guest or Add New User, and verify that a PIN or passkey is required.
- At the after-work start time, sign in again as the child and confirm the approved window works.
- Sign in as the adult and verify that the adult passcode is still required before GTA 6 opens.
These controls apply to the shared console only. They do not follow a child to a friend’s house, block video playthroughs or monitor closed-console voice chat.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can PlayStation block only GTA 6 while leaving other games available?
No. PlayStation’s Restrict Playable Hours counts use of the console as a whole. To block only GTA 6, use its age level on the child account or keep the game available only on a passcode-protected adult profile.
Can Xbox screen time work if the child leaves the account signed in?
Yes, but idle signed-in time consumes the allowance. Microsoft’s model starts counting at sign-in and stops at sign-out, so teach the child to sign out when leaving the console.
Will an age restriction remove GTA 6 from the hard drive?
No. It leaves the installation in place and prevents the restricted child account from launching it. An approved adult profile can still open the game.
What happens if GTA 6 is not installed when I configure Xbox limits?
