Verdict: The Beyerdynamic Amiron 200 is a strong open-ear true-wireless earbud for runners, commuters and office listeners who need to hear their surroundings. Its ear hooks stay secure, battery life reaches 11 hours per charge, and multipoint, app EQ and wireless charging make it unusually practical. You give up the isolation, deep bass and privacy of sealed earbuds: music leaks audibly above roughly half volume, there is no wear detection, and the touch surface can trigger when you brush it.

At the manufacturer’s €179 launch price (3 September 2025), it competes on fit, endurance and controls rather than noise cancellation. Tom’s Guide reported 2026 prices of $199 in the US and £159 in the UK on Amazon; regional pricing and stock can change, so check the current listing before buying.

What is the Beyerdynamic Amiron 200?

The Amiron 200 is an open-ear, on-ear true-wireless earbud. Instead of sealing the ear canal with a silicone tip, each 10.2-gram bud rests beside the ear and uses a hook to hold its position. That leaves the canal open so traffic, colleagues and other nearby sounds remain audible while you listen.

Beyerdynamic positions it for exercise and everyday listening where awareness matters. The design is fundamentally different from an in-ear noise-isolating model: it is more comfortable for many long sessions and safer for situational awareness, but it cannot create silence and it cannot keep your music private at higher levels.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The 18 × 11 × 4.85 mm dynamic driver, Bluetooth 5.3 radio, SBC/AAC codec support and 20–20,000 Hz stated frequency response are the core hardware specifications. A 70 mAh battery sits in each earbud; the 480 mAh case recharges them through USB-C or a wireless charging pad.

Are the Amiron 200 good for running and workouts?

Yes. The hooks are the Amiron 200’s strongest feature, and Tom’s Guide found them very secure while running. They moved slightly during more aggressive HIIT movements, but did not fall out in the reviewer’s workout. That makes them a better choice for repetitive running and gym sessions than an open bud that simply balances on the outer ear.

Running fit

Put the hook over the top and back of your ear, then rotate the bud until the driver sits beside the canal rather than pressing into it. Because there is no eartip seal, small changes in angle alter loudness and bass more than they would on a conventional in-ear model. Take a few minutes to find the position that stays stable without creating a pressure point.

HIIT and rapid movement

The review’s slight movement during HIIT is an important qualification. Burpees, sprints, jumping and exercises that repeatedly pull the outer ear can shift an open-ear hook even when steady running feels locked in. If your training involves constant impact, test the fit during the hardest movement in your routine before relying on the earbuds outdoors.

Awareness on roads and trails

An open design helps you hear vehicles, cyclists and people, but it does not guarantee that every sound will be noticed. Keep the volume low enough to maintain a clear external signal, and still follow local road and trail-safety rules. Music that masks voices or tire noise defeats the reason to choose an open earbud.

How do the Amiron 200 sound, and how much do they leak?

Tom’s Guide heard clear, well-defined sound at moderate levels. The open presentation makes vocals and instruments easy to follow without the plugged-up sensation of sealed earbuds, but it also allows outside noise into the mix. In a noisy street, you may be tempted to raise the volume, which increases leakage and reduces the safety advantage.

Sound at normal listening levels

At lower levels, the reviewer found the Amiron 200 articulate rather than muddy. The 20–20,000 Hz specification describes the driver’s stated range, not a promise of equal loudness across those frequencies. Open-ear placement generally produces less perceived low-end weight than a sealed in-ear fit because there is no acoustic seal to reinforce bass.

Leakage in shared spaces

Leakage was audible above approximately 50% volume in Tom’s Guide’s hands-on use. A person sitting close to you may hear parts of the track in a quiet office, library or train carriage. The practical solution is to stay below that level when people are nearby, use the app’s EQ to improve clarity instead of simply turning up the volume, and switch to a sealed headphone when privacy is essential.

Using the EQ

The beyerdynamic app provides EQ and other customization. Start with a conservative adjustment and make one change at a time; boosting bass heavily can make an open-ear driver sound louder without restoring the isolation you would get from an in-ear seal. Save a lower-volume profile for public spaces and a more energetic profile for outdoor exercise.

How long does the battery last, and how does charging work?

Beyerdynamic rates the Amiron 200 for up to 11 hours of playback from a charge and up to 36 hours with the case. Those are manufacturer maximums; actual time varies with volume, codec use, call time and other radio activity. The case has a 480 mAh battery, while each earbud has 70 mAh.

USB-C and wireless charging

The case charges through USB-C and also supports wireless charging. The launch announcement says a five-minute charge provides about 90 minutes of playback. Treat that as a quick-charge estimate under the manufacturer’s stated conditions, not as a guaranteed result for every battery state or usage pattern.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What the numbers mean day to day

Eleven hours is enough for a long workday or several training sessions before the case is needed. The 36-hour total is the combined allowance from a fully charged case and earbuds, not 36 hours from one earbud charge. Battery capacity and charge time can decline as lithium-ion cells age, so avoid leaving the case in high heat such as a parked car.

Which wireless features are included?

The Amiron 200 uses Bluetooth 5.3 and supports the SBC and AAC codecs. It offers multipoint for two devices, a stated wireless range of up to 15 metres, and over-the-air firmware updates through the beyerdynamic app. Profiles listed by the manufacturer are HFP, A2DP and AVRCP for calls, audio streaming and playback control.

Multipoint for work and phone use

Multipoint lets the earbuds remain connected to two devices, such as a laptop and a phone. In practice, this is useful when music is playing from a computer and you need to answer a call on the phone without opening Bluetooth settings. Device switching still depends on the operating systems and the audio apps involved, so pause media on the first device if the second does not take priority automatically.

Range

Beyerdynamic states up to 15 metres. Walls, crowded radio environments and the phone’s own antenna can reduce that distance. Keep the source device on your body or in a nearby bag for the most reliable connection rather than treating 15 metres as a guaranteed indoor radius.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Firmware and app setup

Install the beyerdynamic app, pair the earbuds, check for firmware updates and review the control settings before your first run. Updates can improve compatibility or add fixes, but update while the earbuds and case have ample charge and keep the phone nearby until the process finishes.

Are calls and touch controls good?

Call quality was judged better than the reviewer’s AirPods 3 comparison but below the Amiron ZERO. That places the Amiron 200 in a workable middle ground for normal calls, meetings and quick voice messages rather than making it a specialist conference headset.

Microphone expectations

Open earbuds do not block wind or surrounding voices the way a sealed headset with aggressive microphone processing can. In a quiet office, the microphones should be easier to use than on a busy road. For an important call, move away from traffic and test the connection before speaking at length.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

Controls

The touch controls respond quickly, but Tom’s Guide found them overly sensitive: brushing hair could trigger an action. The app lets you disable the touch controls, which is the sensible setting for workouts where a hat, hood or hand may contact the ear hook. If you leave controls enabled, learn the tap locations and avoid repeatedly touching the outer surface while adjusting the fit.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

No wear detection

There is no automatic wear detection. Removing an earbud will not reliably pause playback for you, so use the touch control, the connected phone or the app to pause audio when talking to someone. This is a small convenience gap compared with earbuds that detect removal automatically.

Can you use the Amiron 200 in rain and sweat?

The earbuds carry an IP54 rating. That covers dust protection and water splashes, making them suitable for ordinary workouts and light rain, but it is not a submersion rating. Do not swim with them, shower while wearing them or deliberately spray them with a tap or hose.

After a wet workout, wipe the earbuds and charging contacts with a soft, dry cloth and let them dry before placing them in the case. Moisture trapped in the case can interfere with charging even when the earbuds themselves are still operating. IP54 also does not cover damage caused by corrosive liquids, impact or misuse.

How does the Amiron 200 compare with the Amiron ZERO?

The Amiron ZERO is a clip-style open-ear alternative in the same family. Tom’s Guide describes the ZERO as having a shorter battery life, while the Amiron 200 uses hooks and is better suited to longer listening. Choose based on how you value retention, endurance and the physical shape rather than assuming one is universally better.

Factor Amiron 200 Amiron ZERO
Retention style Ear hooks Clip-style design
Long-session advantage Up to 11 hours per charge; suited to extended listening Shorter battery life according to Tom’s Guide
Workout fit Very secure for running; slight movement reported during HIIT Clip fit may suit listeners who dislike a hook, but the supplied review does not establish equivalent HIIT security
Best match Runners, longer workdays and users who want a conventional hook Listeners who prefer a clip-style form factor

The available hands-on evidence does not establish a complete sound, call or water-resistance comparison between the two models. If those factors decide your purchase, verify the current specifications for the exact model and regional package.

How do you set up the Amiron 200?

  1. Charge first: Connect the case by USB-C or place it on a compatible wireless charger. A short five-minute charge is rated for about 90 minutes, but a full charge is preferable before a long outing.
  2. Install the app: Download the beyerdynamic app on your phone, open the case and follow its pairing instructions.
  3. Update firmware: Check for an over-the-air update before adjusting EQ or controls. Keep the earbuds in the case and the phone nearby during the update.
  4. Pair your second device: Connect the laptop, tablet or second phone if you need multipoint, then confirm both devices show the earbuds as connected.
  5. Fit the hooks: Place each hook over the ear and rotate the driver until it rests beside the canal without pressure.
  6. Configure controls: Test play, pause, volume and call actions. Disable touch controls in the app if hair, glasses, a hat or workout movements cause accidental taps.
  7. Set a safe volume: Start below half volume outdoors and raise it only enough to hear detail. In quiet shared spaces, keep it lower to limit leakage.

What are the main advantages and disadvantages?

Advantages

  • Hooks stay secure for ordinary running and general workouts.
  • Open construction preserves awareness of nearby sounds.
  • Up to 11 hours per charge and 36 hours with the case is strong for an open-ear model.
  • USB-C and wireless charging give you two charging options.
  • Multipoint supports two connected devices.
  • App EQ, control customization and firmware updates add useful flexibility.
  • IP54 covers dust and water splashes for everyday exercise.

Disadvantages

  • Music leakage becomes noticeable above roughly 50% volume.
  • There is no isolation or active noise cancellation because the ear canal remains open.
  • Touch controls can trigger when you brush your hair or adjust the fit.
  • No wear detection means removing a bud will not automatically pause playback.
  • HIIT can cause slight movement even though running stability is very good.
  • Call quality is usable but not the strongest in the Amiron range, according to Tom’s Guide.
  • IP54 does not make the earbuds suitable for swimming or submersion.

Is the Amiron 200 worth its price?

At €179 RRP at launch, the Amiron 200 is worth considering if secure hooks, long battery life and awareness are more important to you than isolation or privacy. Tom’s Guide listed $199 in the US and £159 in the UK on Amazon in 2026, illustrating why the local price matters. A sale can improve the value considerably, while a price above the launch level makes the control sensitivity and leakage harder to overlook.

Before ordering, confirm that the listing is for the Amiron 200 rather than the clip-style Amiron ZERO, check the return policy for fit testing, and verify that the package includes the charging cable described by the seller. Stock, colour availability and regional warranty terms can differ.

Who should buy the Beyerdynamic Amiron 200?

Buy it if you run outdoors, work in an office where you need to hear colleagues, or dislike the plugged-up feeling of in-ear tips. It is especially compelling when you want one charge to cover most of a workday and still need multipoint for a phone and computer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose another type of headphone if you commute in loud transport and need isolation, share quiet spaces where any leakage is unacceptable, or expect automatic pausing and completely reliable touch controls. The Amiron 200 is an awareness-first workout earbud, not a replacement for a sealed noise-cancelling pair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I wear the Amiron 200 in heavy rain or while swimming?

No. IP54 is intended for dust and water splashes, not submersion or sustained water pressure. For wet training, dry the earbuds and charging contacts before returning them to the case.

How can I keep people nearby from hearing my music?

Keep the volume below the level at which leakage becomes audible, which Tom’s Guide found was around half volume, and use the app’s EQ to improve clarity instead of turning up the level. In a silent carriage or library, sealed headphones are the more considerate option.

Is the Amiron 200 suitable for long work calls?

It can handle ordinary calls and meetings, and a hands-on review rated its call quality above an AirPods 3 comparison. In noisy or windy places, move somewhere quieter because the open design does not block surrounding sound.
