Short answer: The five strongest carpet-focused candidates documented by their manufacturers are the Roborock Qrevo CurvX, Roborock Qrevo Edge Series, ECOVACS DEEBOT X9 PRO OMNI, ECOVACS DEEBOT T80 OMNI, and iRobot Roomba j9+. They are not a verified performance ranking: the available specifications come from manufacturer pages that use different methods. For carpet, choose by brush agitation, pile-height clearance, edge behavior, navigation, pet-hair handling, and rug-safe mopping—not by the largest suction number alone.
This guide explains what each model claims, how to compare those claims fairly, and how to configure a robot for rugs and wall-to-wall carpet. Check current price, stock, warranty, compatible consumables, and independent test results before buying.
What are the five carpet robot vacuums?
The shortlist below is a set of manufacturer-documented candidates, not an independently tested order from first to fifth. Each company describes capabilities differently, so the table records the feature and its source rather than converting specifications into a winner.

Why is suction alone a poor way to choose a carpet robot?
A suction figure measures only one part of pickup. iRobot’s comparison guidance says carpet results also depend on agitation, the debris being collected, the air path, and how well the system is sealed. A robot with a lower published number can therefore outperform a higher-numbered rival on a particular rug, while neither company’s figure is automatically comparable with the other’s.
Pa ratings are especially easy to misread. ECOVACS lists 16,600 Pa for the X9 PRO OMNI, 18,000 Pa for the T80 OMNI, and 20,000 Pa for the T30C on one category page. Those are manufacturer specifications, not results from a shared carpet, soil, and test-time protocol. Roborock’s 18,500 Pa and 99.5% hair-removal statements for the Edge Series likewise need the page’s conditions to be read alongside the number. Treat every figure as a claim about that product under that company’s stated conditions.
Carpet cleaning is a mechanical problem as much as an airflow problem:

Brush shape, contact pressure, speed, and anti-tangle design matter.
- Air path and sealing: Leaks, a dirty filter, or a full dustbin reduce the airflow that reaches the floor.
- Debris: Fine powder, cereal-size crumbs, sand, and long pet hair stress different parts of the system.
- Surface: Low-pile loop rugs, plush high pile, shag, and bound edges present different clearance and entanglement risks.
For the manufacturer’s explanation of why suction should not be read in isolation, see iRobot’s current Roomba comparison and suction guidance.
Which model fits your carpet and cleaning routine?
Roborock Qrevo CurvX: automatic boost and a second pass
Roborock describes the Qrevo CurvX as able to increase suction automatically when it detects carpet, run a second cleaning pass per room, and offer carpet-first cleaning choices. Those controls target two common problems: a robot that remains in its quiet, low-power mode on rugs and a single pass that leaves embedded grit behind.
The useful question is whether the app lets you apply those behaviors to the rooms and rugs you actually have. A second pass costs time and battery, so it is most useful in bedrooms, entryways, and pet areas rather than every hard-floor room. Confirm the exact dock, brush, and mop behavior for the variant sold in your region before assuming that the product page’s full feature set applies.

Roborock Qrevo Edge Series: elevated chassis and manual carpet mode
Roborock says Edge Series models provide carpet settings and can raise the chassis for mid- to high-pile carpet. The company also states that these settings require manual activation in the app. That distinction matters: a robot may physically clear a thick rug but fail to use the intended mode unless you turn it on.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Roborock publishes 18,500 Pa suction and 99.5% hair removal on carpet for the series. Because those figures are vendor-published, look for the test surface, hair type, number of passes, and machine condition on the product page before comparing them with another brand’s Pa rating. If your home mixes thick rugs with low thresholds, test whether raising the chassis affects the robot’s ability to cross transitions and reach rug edges.
ECOVACS DEEBOT X9 PRO OMNI: a high stated suction figure in a combo design
ECOVACS places the DEEBOT X9 PRO OMNI in its carpet-and-rug category and lists 16,600 Pa suction. The category page is useful for identifying the model and its claimed specification, but it is not an independent test or a head-to-head ranking.
Because this is an all-in-one vacuum-and-mop design, set the carpet policy before the first run. ECOVACS describes mop lifting on some DEEBOT models; verify that the X9 variant you buy supports the needed lift height and that carpet recognition, no-mop zones, or room rules are enabled. A mop that merely lifts slightly may still leave a damp rug if the pad remains close to the fibers.
ECOVACS DEEBOT T80 OMNI: carpet recognition
ECOVACS lists the T80 OMNI with carpet recognition and an 18,000 Pa suction specification. Recognition can be valuable when your floor plan alternates between tile, wood, and rugs because the robot can change behavior without a separate schedule for every surface.

iRobot Roomba j9+: room-aware vacuuming and obstacle handling
iRobot describes the Roomba j9+ as cleaning carpet and hard floors with room prioritization, obstacle recognition, a multi-surface brush system, and self-emptying. Those features address practical carpet failures: missed high-traffic rooms, cords or toys that stop a run, and a dustbin that fills before the job is complete.
iRobot’s product page claims “100% stronger suction than Roomba Combo i Series robots.” That statement compares the j9+ with specified iRobot models; it does not establish that the j9+ has twice the suction of a different brand or that it wins an independent carpet test. If you need wet cleaning, compare the j9+’s vacuum-first design with a combo robot’s rug-protection controls rather than treating the two product types as interchangeable.
How should you compare carpet boost, repeat passes, and pile-height handling?
Start with the settings you can actually control. Automatic boost is convenient, while a manual mode can be preferable when you want predictable noise and battery use. A repeat-pass or carpet-first option helps high-traffic zones but extends run time.
| Feature | What to check in the app or manual | Why it matters on carpet |
|---|---|---|
| Carpet boost | Automatic detection versus a selectable power level; whether it applies to all rugs or only mapped rooms. | Higher airflow can improve pickup but increases noise, energy use, and filter loading. |
| Repeat pass | One extra pass per room, a chosen number of passes, or a spot-clean command. | Repeated agitation is useful for grit and pet areas that a single crossing misses. |
| Carpet-first scheduling | Whether carpet rooms can run before hard floors and whether the order survives a low-battery recharge. | Rugs receive the battery’s strongest cleaning time instead of being left for the end of a long route. |
| Pile-height mode | Maximum stated clearance, chassis lift, brush height, and whether activation is manual. | Plush rugs can stall a low-clearance chassis or cause brush drag; a lifted chassis may also change edge contact. |
| Edge crossing | How the robot handles bound, curled, or beveled edges and transitions between floor types. | Edges are common snag points and can leave a strip of dirt if the side brush cannot reach it. |
Do not infer pile compatibility from a marketing label such as “carpet mode.” Measure your thickest rug, include the fringe and binding, and compare that measurement with the manufacturer’s clearance and prohibited-surface guidance.
What brush and hair-management details matter more than a headline Pa number?
Inspect the brush assembly, not just the motor specification. A multi-surface roller can be a good compromise for mixed floors, while a design with deep channels or closely spaced fins may resist long hair better than a simple bristle roller. The right choice depends on whether your dominant problem is fine sand, crumbs, or long pet hair.
- Pet hair: Look for an anti-tangle path, a brush that can be removed without tools, and a cleaning tool that reaches the end caps. Hair wrapped around an end bearing can stop a robot even when the roller itself looks clear.
- Fine grit: Prioritize a sealed air path, a cleanable filter, and enough agitation to open the pile. Emptying the bin does not restore airflow if the filter is clogged.
- Long fibers and fringe: Expect some manual boundary management. Keep fringe outside the robot’s route or secure it under the rug before mapping.
- Rug protection: Confirm that the brush does not pull at loose loops or decorative tassels. Supervise the first several runs on valuable rugs.
Roborock’s Edge Series hair-removal percentage is a manufacturer result, not a guarantee for every pet, rug, or maintenance schedule. iRobot’s multi-surface brush description similarly identifies the brush concept but does not provide a common percentage against the ECOVACS figures.

How do combo robot vacuums keep rugs dry while mopping?
Ask three separate questions: Does the robot detect carpet, does it lift or retract the mop, and can you create a no-mop boundary? A product can advertise carpet recognition yet still leave a damp trace if the pad lift is too low or a map is inaccurate.
- Map the home with rugs in their normal positions, including thin mats that are easy to overlook.
- Create no-mop zones around rugs that must never receive moisture. Use the smallest boundary that still accounts for the robot’s turning radius.
- Confirm the app’s carpet action: mop lift, mop removal, vacuum-only behavior, or avoidance. Do not assume a setting carries over from one DEEBOT or Qrevo variant to another.
- Run a supervised test on an expendable mat. Check the center, edge, and the robot’s approach direction for dampness or wheel marks.
- Only then schedule unattended combination cleaning. Recheck after moving furniture or adding a new rug, because maps and boundaries can become inaccurate.
ECOVACS’ category page describes mop lifting on some DEEBOT models, not a neutral test of every listed model. Treat lift capability as something to verify on the exact product and regional software version.
How well do navigation and obstacle features protect rugs?
Navigation determines whether the robot reaches the whole carpet and whether it returns without dragging a cord, rug corner, or toy into the brush. Room prioritization is useful for sending the robot to carpeted bedrooms first; obstacle recognition can reduce interruptions around pet bowls and charging cables.
Before mapping, remove loose cords, fold fringe under the rug, and flatten curled corners. Mark narrow thresholds and dark mats if the robot repeatedly treats them as drop-offs. After mapping, inspect the route at the rug edge: a robot that approaches diagonally may climb one corner and leave the opposite edge untouched.
Use room labels and schedules to separate demanding carpet work from quiet hard-floor runs. A high-power, repeat-pass carpet schedule may need a recharge, so confirm that the robot resumes the same room after charging instead of restarting the map from the beginning.
What maintenance does carpet cleaning require?
Carpet loads filters and brushes faster than smooth floors. Set a routine based on visible buildup rather than the longest interval advertised by a dock.

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Check the main roller and side brush after the first few runs, then at least weekly in homes with shedding pets.
- Empty or inspect the dust path when pickup drops, even if the self-emptying base has not reported a full bag.
- Clean filters only by the method the manual permits; a wet filter installed too soon can restrict airflow or damage the fan.
- Remove hair from brush ends and wheel axles, where wrapped fibers create drag and navigation errors.
- Replace disposal bags, filters, and brushes only with parts confirmed for the exact model and regional variant. Compatibility is not universal across a product family.
Self-emptying reduces daily handling but does not eliminate consumables. Budget for bags and filters, and check whether the dock’s dust path can handle the fine powder your carpet produces.
What information is still missing before you buy?
The cited manufacturer pages do not establish a common street price, stock status, warranty term, or independent test score for all five candidates. Verify those items for your country and exact model number immediately before ordering.
| Check | How to verify it |
|---|---|
| Price and promotions | Read the current manufacturer or authorized-retailer listing; note whether the amount is a temporary sale, bundle, or recurring subscription. |
| Availability | Confirm the exact suffix, dock configuration, and shipping region. Names can cover several variants. |
| Warranty and service | Read the regional warranty, return window, battery coverage, and repair process before purchase. |
| Consumables | Search the support page for model-specific bags, filters, rollers, and side brushes, and check their recurring cost. |
| Independent testing | Look for tests that disclose carpet type, debris load, passes, battery state, and measurement method. Reject a score that supplies none of those conditions. |
Which robot vacuum should a carpet owner choose?
Choose the Qrevo CurvX if automatic boost, a second room pass, and carpet-first controls match your priorities. Consider the Qrevo Edge Series when mid- to high-pile clearance and a manually enabled carpet mode are more important than one-touch automation. The X9 PRO OMNI and T80 OMNI are candidates for households wanting a vacuum-mop dock, but verify the exact mop-lift and no-mop behavior before allowing them onto rugs. The Roomba j9+ suits buyers who prioritize room-aware vacuuming, obstacle recognition, a multi-surface brush, and self-emptying over an integrated mop.
That is a feature-fit decision, not a claim that one model wins every carpet test. Match the robot to your pile height, debris, pets, rug edges, cleaning schedule, and tolerance for maintenance, then confirm current commercial terms and independent results.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a robot vacuum clean a thick shag rug without help?
Not reliably in every home. Thick or loose shag can exceed the robot’s clearance, overload the roller, or hide fringe; measure the pile and supervise a trial on a nonvaluable section before creating an unattended schedule.
Should I run a carpet robot every day if I have pets?
A short daily run can limit hair buildup, but the useful frequency depends on shedding, occupants, and the robot’s bin and filter capacity. Inspect the brush and filter after the first week and adjust the schedule when airflow or pickup changes.
Do dark rugs confuse robot-vacuum carpet detection?
Some navigation systems can misread very dark or patterned surfaces as drop-offs or fail to classify a thin mat. Add a boundary or adjust the map only after observing the robot on that rug; software behavior varies by model and update.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIs a self-emptying dock worth it for carpeted homes?
It is most valuable when carpet produces enough debris to fill a small onboard bin during a full-home run. You still need to clean filters and brush ends and buy compatible bags, so compare the dock’s consumable cost with how often you want to handle the robot manually.
