The PlayStation Portal is a stronger baseline than it was at launch: Sony added a 1080p High Quality mode in March 2026 and announced cloud streaming for eligible PlayStation Plus Premium members in November 2025. Logitech Support estimates approximately 12 hours of cloud-game play time under its stated normal conditions of 50% volume and 50% brightness. ROG Xbox Ally: Xbox streaming and native Windows games
The 2025 ROG Xbox Ally combines Xbox console Remote Play and Xbox Cloud Gaming with native Windows gaming, so it is a better match than a streaming-only handheld if you want games installed and run locally as well. Xbox’s announcement describes native, cloud, and console Remote Play modes. Some Xbox features depend on separate service eligibility: ASUS says online console multiplayer, including through Xbox Remote Play, requires a separately sold Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Standard, or Core membership. Check current regional terms before purchase.

ASUS’s US page lists the 2025 ROG Xbox Ally at $599.99 and 670 g for the listed configuration. These are US page values for that model, not a global or permanent price and weight guarantee; check local listings for current availability and specifications.
Steam Deck: a third-party path to PlayStation Remote Play
Steam Deck is worth considering if its PC handheld library is the main draw and you are comfortable using a third-party solution for PlayStation streaming. Tom’s Hardware reported that the Asobi app supports PS4 and PS5 streaming on Steam Deck. The report does not establish Sony endorsement, equivalent setup or reliability to Portal, or measured performance against Portal. Do not treat this as an official PlayStation feature.

What changed about PlayStation Portal?
Portal remains Sony’s integrated handheld for connecting to a PS5 through Remote Play, but it is no longer limited to that original use case. Sony announced cloud streaming in November 2025 for eligible PlayStation Plus Premium members; eligibility and availability may vary by region. In a March 17, 2026 PlayStation Blog post, Senior Manager of Product Management Takuro Fushimi announced a software update that began global rollout on March 18 and added a 1080p High Quality mode.
Sony also reported in that March 2026 post that Portal cloud-streaming monthly users grew 162% year over year in January and that more than 50% of Portal users were PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. Those are Sony-published figures, not independent measurements. Fushimi wrote: “PlayStation Portal remote player continues to evolve, with ongoing improvements designed to enhance the way players experience Remote Play and Cloud Streaming.”

How to choose between them
- Choose G Cloud if a dedicated streaming handheld with stated PS5, Xbox, and PC Remote Play support is your priority.
- Choose ROG Xbox Ally if you want Xbox Remote Play alongside native Windows gaming and are comfortable with a Windows handheld.
- Choose Steam Deck if its native PC handheld library is the deciding factor and you accept a third-party app for PlayStation streaming.
- Keep Portal in the comparison if you want Sony’s integrated PlayStation experience; its newer cloud-streaming eligibility and 1080p High Quality mode may address needs that made an alternative seem necessary.
