For most families, compare 1Password Families for its private and shared vault setup with Bitwarden Families for a lower annual-billing price and up to six users. For a small business, Bitwarden Teams is a practical value starting point; compare 1Password Business or Keeper if your priorities include a different administrative experience or secure sharing across many devices. The right choice depends on who needs access, how you will recover accounts, and which features your household or company will actually use.

What is the best password manager for a family?

1Password Families is a strong fit when ease of sharing and separate private vaults matter most. Bitwarden Families is the value-oriented choice when a household needs up to six accounts and wants shared collections; Bitwarden also offers a free tier for individual use. Keeper is worth considering when the household uses many devices and wants broad syncing and sharing.

A family plan is not simply a way to give everyone the same password. Each person should be able to keep private credentials separate while sharing only the logins the household needs, such as an account used by both adults. Before choosing, check the plan’s member limit, shared-vault controls, recovery options and how it behaves on every family member’s devices.

1Password Families: best fit for simple household sharing

1Password’s family plan includes up to five users, unlimited shared vaults and simple admin controls, according to its current family page accessed in 2026. TechRadar’s 2026 comparison describes private vaults for each member and names 1Password its best password manager for families. Its product page lists apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, as well as alerts for weak or compromised credentials.

#1 Best Overall
Yubico - Security Key C NFC - Basic Compatibility - Multi-Factor authentication (MFA) Security Key and passkey, Connect via USB-C or NFC, FIDO Certified
  • POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
  • WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
  • FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
  • TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
  • BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.

This setup is useful when adults need private spaces alongside shared household credentials. A shared vault can hold a common login, while personal vaults reduce the need to expose every saved account to every family member. The plan is not the cheapest choice for every household, and the cited 2026 comparison does not list a free tier. Check the current checkout price and family terms before subscribing.

Bitwarden Families: best fit for six accounts and value

Bitwarden lists Families at $3.99 per month billed annually for up to six users on its pricing page accessed in 2026. The plan is aimed at households that want multiple individual accounts with secure sharing. Bitwarden’s free individual tier is also described by TechRadar as offering unlimited devices and password storage, free sharing with one other user, passkey support and self-hosting options.

Free access and a family subscription serve different needs. The free tier may suit one person or limited sharing with one other person; a household that needs six accounts and organized shared collections should compare the Families plan. Bitwarden’s open-source design is another point to consider, but it does not remove the need to review recovery, MFA and sharing settings.

Keeper: consider it when device coverage and sharing lead

TechRadar’s 2026 review describes Keeper as a sharing-focused option with unlimited password storage, syncing and sharing across devices, and says it is popular with businesses. That can make it relevant to households with many devices. The same review says some breach notifications and storage features are optional paid extras, so check exactly which capabilities are included in the plan you are considering.

Which password manager is best for a small business?

Bitwarden Teams is a sensible value baseline for a small company that needs centralized management rather than a collection of unrelated personal vaults. Its 2026 pricing page lists the plan at $4 per user per month billed annually and includes secure credential sharing, event logs, directory synchronization and SCIM. Compare 1Password Business or Keeper if their administration or sharing approach better fits your operational needs.

Business selection is about managing access over time, not just storing passwords. A company needs to decide who owns shared credentials, who can invite or remove users, and what happens when an employee leaves. A small team may not need every enterprise feature, but it should understand which controls are included before putting important accounts into a shared system.

Bitwarden Teams: administration features at a stated annual rate

At the listed $4 per user per month billed annually, Bitwarden Teams includes centralized ownership and management, secure credential sharing, event logs, directory synchronization and SCIM. These capabilities can help a team keep shared credentials under organizational control and manage membership across its account environment. Confirm whether the plan’s exact controls meet your needs, especially if you need specific sign-on, compliance or data-residency arrangements.

The price is an annual-billing rate, not necessarily the amount that will appear in every checkout. Taxes, promotions, geography and plan changes may affect the total. Ask how seats are counted, how extra users are billed, and whether your company needs separate ownership or administrative roles before comparing quotes.

When should a business compare 1Password or Keeper?

Consider 1Password Business if your team values the 1Password experience or needs administrative capabilities beyond a household plan. Current Business pricing, SSO, SCIM and employee-family benefits should be verified directly before purchase because these details change. Do not assume that features available in a family plan or another business tier are included in the plan you are evaluating.

Keeper is a candidate when secure sharing across devices is a priority. Its business relevance is supported by the 2026 TechRadar review, but the available comparison does not establish a complete current matrix of business controls or prices. Confirm the specific admin, reporting, recovery and optional-feature terms for the business plan rather than treating a general sharing description as a guarantee that it meets a particular company’s requirements.

How do the plans and family prices compare?

The following figures are dated snapshots, not guaranteed checkout totals. Official plan details are identified separately from prices reported by Reviewed; verify the current plan page and final checkout amount in your region before buying.

NordPass family Up to 6 $3.99 per month in Reviewed’s comparison, prices checked May 2026. TechRadar’s 2026 review reports a six-person family device limit; the cited materials do not establish a complete current feature matrix.
Keeper family Up to 5 $6.25 per month in Reviewed’s comparison, prices checked May 2026. TechRadar reports unlimited Keeper family devices; some breach notifications and encrypted storage are optional paid extras.
Bitwarden Teams Per-user business plan $4 per user per month, billed annually; Bitwarden pricing page accessed in 2026. Secure sharing, event logs, directory synchronization, SCIM, centralized ownership and management are listed.

The dated comparison shows why a headline monthly price is not enough. The plans have different seat limits, billing terms and feature descriptions, and prices can change between a review and a purchase. Compare the annual total for the number of people who will actually use the plan; also check whether optional features make a lower starting price less comparable.

Yubico - Security Key NFC - Basic Compatibility - Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Key, Connect via USB-A or NFC, FIDO Certified
  • POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.

  • BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.

What security features should a family or business compare?

Compare the controls that protect access and the practical tools for sharing and recovery. A password manager can centralize credentials, but a good setup still depends on a unique master password, MFA and deliberate access choices.

  • Vault separation: Look for private spaces for individuals and a clear way to share only selected credentials. A family should not need to expose every personal login to create one shared household login.
  • Master password and MFA: Create a unique, high-entropy master password and enable multi-factor authentication. Reviewed recommends stronger MFA options such as authenticator apps and hardware security keys.
  • Recovery or emergency access: Establish who can help regain access and understand the provider’s recovery process before an account is locked. For a company, identify who retains access to organization-owned credentials if an administrator leaves.
  • Password health and breach alerts: Check whether the plan reports weak, reused or compromised credentials and whether alerts or reports are included or paid extras. Prioritize changing credentials that are exposed or reused.
  • Passkeys: Leading managers support passkeys, but creation, autofill and synchronization can vary by browser and operating system. Test them on the actual devices and software your household or team uses.
  • Cross-device apps and offline access: Confirm support for your phones, desktops and browsers, and determine how access works when a device is offline. Platform availability alone does not establish that every feature behaves identically on every device.
  • Business administration: If a team needs centralized ownership, event logs, directory synchronization, SCIM, SSO or policy controls, verify each feature in the exact business tier. The cited Bitwarden Teams listing establishes event logs, directory sync and SCIM, but it does not establish that every other provider or plan has equivalent controls.
  • Security design and data requirements: If your organization requires independent audits, specific data residency or documented compliance claims, request current documentation from the vendor. The plan summaries here do not establish those requirements for every product.

How should you set up shared access safely?

Set up the manager before moving important credentials into shared areas. Start with individual accounts, decide what genuinely needs to be shared, and test recovery and device behavior while you can still access the old system.

  1. Create each person’s account. Each household member or employee should use an individual account rather than passing around one master login. The account boundary makes it possible to change membership without distributing every credential again.
  2. Set a unique master password and enable MFA. Do not reuse a password from another service. For stronger phishing resistance, consider a FIDO2 hardware security key such as a YubiKey; keep a protected spare and confirm whether its USB-C, USB-A or NFC interface matches the devices it must work with.
  3. Separate private and shared credentials. Create shared vaults or collections only for accounts that other people need. Give children or staff the minimum access necessary rather than making every vault available to everyone.
  4. Plan recovery with a trusted person or administrator. Configure the provider’s available emergency or recovery process and test it before an incident. Do not assume that knowing a family member’s email address or having access to a company device is enough to recover the account.
  5. Test the devices and passkeys you rely on. Install the appropriate apps or browser extensions and check login, autofill, passkey creation and synchronization on each relevant phone, browser and desktop operating system. Compatibility differences can be important even when a product supports passkeys in general.
  6. Review alerts and improve weak credentials. Use available breach and password-health reports to identify exposed, weak or reused passwords, then update the affected accounts. Check whether alerts or storage features carry extra charges on the selected plan.
  7. Document backup and offboarding. Export a secure backup before switching providers, and document how a departing employee’s access will be removed while organization-owned accounts remain available to the team. Restrict access to the exported file because it may contain readable credential data.

Is Bitwarden or 1Password better for a small team?

Bitwarden Teams has the clearest documented value case in the available plan details: $4 per user per month billed annually, with centralized management, secure sharing, event logs, directory synchronization and SCIM. 1Password may be a better fit when your team prefers its user experience or needs business controls that you have verified in its current plan, but current Business pricing and feature terms need direct confirmation.

Do not compare a family plan against a business plan as if they were interchangeable. A family subscription is organized around household membership and personal sharing; a company needs an owner, an offboarding process and a way to maintain access to business credentials as staff change. For a small team, make a short list of required controls first, then confirm each one with the vendor before deciding on price.

What should you check before choosing among alternatives?

NordPass, Proton Pass and Dashlane may be worth comparing if their current offerings better match your desired family seat count, broader privacy-suite bundle or ease-of-use preferences. Reviewed’s May 2026 price snapshot lists the seat counts and prices in the table, but the available material does not support a complete, current feature ranking across these providers.

TechRadar’s 2026 review names NordPass its overall pick, Keeper for sharing, Bitwarden for free use and 1Password for families. Those are editorial distinctions from that review, not a guarantee that one product is best for every household or company. Use them to make a shortlist, then verify current plan limits, passkey behavior, recovery options, app support and optional charges against your own needs.

For any product, check the export process before migrating. Make sure you know what data can be exported, how the export is protected, and how to remove the resulting file after import. For businesses, also verify how directory synchronization, user removal and ownership of shared credentials work in the exact tier under consideration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if the family organizer forgets the master password?

The outcome depends on the provider’s account recovery design and any recovery options configured in advance; there is no universal reset method for encrypted vaults. Read the provider’s current recovery documentation and test the chosen process with a noncritical account before relying on it.

Can I move passwords from one manager to another without retyping them?

Many migrations use an export from the old manager followed by an import into the new one, but supported formats and included data vary. Treat the export as sensitive, verify the imported entries, then securely delete extra copies rather than leaving an unprotected credentials file on a shared computer.

Should a child have their own password-manager account?

A separate account preserves individual access and lets a parent share only the credentials the child needs. Choose a plan and sharing arrangement appropriate to the child’s age, and retain an adult-managed recovery route.

Can a hardware security key replace a password manager’s MFA app?

It may be an available MFA method, but support depends on the manager, account settings and the devices used to connect the key. Check for FIDO2/WebAuthn support and connector compatibility, and keep a separately protected backup method or spare key.
