Shipment is the best Modern Warfare 4 map for pure close-quarters combat right now. It is the only Core 6v6 map Activision labels “Small-Sized,” and its classic Russian-harbor container layout keeps fights almost constantly at short range. Choose it for the fastest weapon-level and camo grind, but expect chaotic spawns. If you want structured lanes and more predictable engagements, choose Shoot House when it arrives with Season 1 on November 6, 2026. Until then, Silkworm, Nautical, Mumbai and Kill Block provide more learnable alternatives, while Lithium is the overall map favorite—not the close-quarters winner.

Which MW4 map is best for close-quarters combat?
Shipment is the clear answer for unrestricted 6v6 close-quarters fighting. Activision describes it as an “infamous small map” on a Russian harbor, “hemmed in between the water and the concrete panel buildings,” with a classic layout. It is the 13th Core map: 12 all-new Core 6v6 maps launched on October 23, 2026, and Shipment joined them on October 27.
The choice changes if “best” means controlled rather than constant combat. Shoot House is the better fit for players who want three lanes, recognizable power positions and fewer instant spawn flips, but it does not go live until Season 1 starts at 0000 Eastern Time on November 6 (2100 Pacific Time on November 5). Before then, Silkworm, Nautical and Mumbai are the strongest new-map options, and Kill Block supplies Shoot House-sized fights in Gunfight.

There is no Activision ranking or first-party kill-rate figure for the best CQC map. The recommendation is based on Activision’s official size labels, map descriptions, weapon guidance and availability, not a new performance test.

What makes Shipment different from other “small” MW4 maps?
“Small” covers several different experiences in Modern Warfare 4. Shipment is officially Small-Sized, while Shoot House, Backstab and Canyon are officially Medium-Sized. Transit 213 is described as small but does not use Shipment’s container-yard footprint. Kill Block is roughly the size of the Shoot House from Modern Warfare (2019), yet its three Slabs can be recombined into more than 500 layouts. Library is a compact 2v2 Gunfight room rather than a Core 6v6 map.
- Shipment: almost no downtime, frequent spawn flips and fights at a few metres.
- Shoot House: three primary lanes—southern Junkyard, central tunnels and northern Containers—with Hospital and Apartment adding overhead angles.
- Transit 213: three lanes divided by rusting buses; equipment and grenades matter heavily.
- Kill Block: modular, randomised Gunfight spaces that reward learning each round’s Combo.
- Library: the tightest dedicated 2v2 arena, with indoor shelves constraining movement.
Is Shipment in Modern Warfare 4, and what is its layout?
Yes. Shipment is playable in the preseason as a 6v6 remaster set in a Russian harbor. Activision’s October 21 launch description says:
“The infamous small map is set on a Russian harbor, hemmed in between the water and the concrete panel buildings making up the urban landscape around it. The map itself is true to form with a classic layout and appearance that players will be right at home with, enhanced by Modern Warfare 4’s visual and gameplay improvements.”

That official description matters because pre-launch community material used different imagery, including a beached container ship and forklift lanes. The shipped version is the classic container-yard arrangement on the Russian waterfront, not a new large map that merely carries the Shipment name.
Its divisiveness is intentional to understand. Shipment originated in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007) as a container-yard test and split-screen map. Infinity Ward multiplayer design director Geoff Smith later told Dexerto, as reported by Eurogamer, that including it in the shipped playlist was “truly an accident” because the team “forgot” to remove it; he called it the “bane of his existence.” Some players use Shipment to farm weapons and camos, while others dislike its relentless pace and spawn traps.
Shipment vs Transit 213: which is better for grinding?
Shipment is now the better grind map. Before Shipment launched, Transit 213 was the practical answer to “where can I level weapons like Shipment?” Timesaver.gg described Transit 213 as the launch pool’s Shipment-style small map and a fast route to weapon levels and camos. Activision’s beta guidance calls it “A small map split into lanes by rusting buses” and warns that equipment plays a large role.
Shipment overtook it on October 27. Activision’s Season 1 announcement specifically tells players:

“Brave the chaos and use its relentless pace of engagements to level up those crucial early Weapon ranks, so you’re ready to go when the Season 1 Multiplayer maps arrive.”
That is a first-party recommendation for weapon progression, not a published kill-rate claim. GAMINGbible’s October 28 ranking of the 13-map Core pool placed Shipment second and Transit 213 12th, citing Transit’s frustrating spawns and unpredictable fights. Transit remains useful when Shipment is absent from the active rotation, but it is a fallback rather than the current CQC or XP leader.
Shipment vs Shoot House: chaos or structure?
Shipment wins raw CQC density; Shoot House should win for players who want a learnable three-lane battle. They are different jobs, not interchangeable versions of the same map.
| Factor | Shipment | Shoot House |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Live since October 27, 2026 | Season 1, November 6, 2026, 0000 ET |
| Official size | Small-Sized | Medium-Sized |
| Layout | Classic container yard | Junkyard, Center tunnels and Containers, with Hospital and Apartment overhead |
| Fight rhythm | Spawn-flip chaos and near-continuous engagements | Three-lane pushes, head-glitches and more predictable rotations |
| Best use | Fast weapon ranks, camos and point-blank practice | Close-range gunfights with space to reposition and hold a lane |
Activision describes the incoming Shoot House setting as a reimagining in North Korea during light snowfall: “While veterans of the map will instantly recognize the layout, the setting is reimagined against the rugged terrain of North Korea during a light snowfall.” Because it is not live until November 6, claims about its balance against Shipment are based on the announced layout, not a live MW4 comparison.
Which new Core maps are good for close-range fights?
Silkworm, Nautical and Mumbai are the strongest launch alternatives when you want CQC without a container box. They offer more routes and visual space than Shipment, so they are easier to read but less relentlessly short-range.
Silkworm
Silkworm is a dense South Korean shopping district around a subway entrance. Its alleys and limited vantage points make it the most consistently CQC-leaning new Core map. Activision’s beta tip says, “Street-level fighting with few vantage points. Favor handling and aim-down-sight speed.” SMGs and shotguns fit its compressed movement, while slow-aiming builds can struggle to clear corners.
Nautical
Nautical is a South Korean ferry at dawn. Its narrow corridors produce frantic CQC, but open decks create longer engagements, so it is not a pure box map. GAMINGbible compared its feel to the Hijacked style of a boat map: corridor pressure below and exposed lanes above.

Mumbai
Mumbai places fights in a dense residential district around a Victorian market with a rail line through it. Multiple flanks can bring opponents from several directions, creating busy urban CQC rather than Shipment’s compressed spawn loop. Choose it if you want to move through a neighborhood and clear approaches instead of repeatedly contesting the same containers.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCachette and Reactor U92
Cachette is a covert armory in a French wine warehouse and garage beside a rail terminal. Activision’s beta advice recommends a close-range backup for the Garage, Armory and Server Room, but the map also has close-to-mid interior fights. Reactor U92 mixes enclosed rooms with a large containment space, so it alternates between CQC pushes and medium-range holds.
Rooftops and Lotus
Rooftops is a vertical, dense New York hotel rooftop map, not a flat box. Lotus combines interiors in a South Korean fishing village with long road sightlines; Activision recommends a shotgun for the Restaurant, Hostel and Fish Market areas. Both can produce close fights, but neither is consistently short-range.
Is Kill Block a Shoot House replacement?
Kill Block is the best immediate alternative if you want Shoot House-sized CQC before November 6, but it is not a substitute for a regular 6v6 Core playlist. It launches as 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight at a Westbridge training facility. Three Slabs form a Combo, and Activision says the result is an “ever-changing Combo map” that offers “a variety of Shoothouse-style environments across numerous combat scenarios.”
Activision says the footprint is roughly the size of Modern Warfare (2019)’s Shoot House and that there are more than 500 combinations. Slabs recreate or draw inspiration from Crash, Killhouse, Ambush, Storage Town, Highrise and Shoot House. Season 1 adds a static Crash Combo that stays the same between rounds and enters Core playlists, including Search and Destroy. The trade-off is preparation: you cannot memorise one permanent layout for the changing Combos.

Its indoor shelves create shorter sightlines than Cafe, NYC or Smuggler, but its mode and team size make it unsuitable as a Shipment-style camo farm.
Why isn’t Lithium the best CQC map?
Lithium is the current overall favorite in one published ranking, not the close-quarters favorite. GAMINGbible ranked Lithium first among 13 Core maps, Shipment second and Transit 213 12th. The article praised Lithium’s arena-like layout, flanks and “organised chaos.”

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Activision’s own beta guidance points to a different range profile: “Mid-range sightlines dominate, so assault rifles, LMGs and marksman rifles shine.” That makes Lithium a strong answer to “What is the best map overall?” but a poor answer to “Where should I take a shotgun or tight-hip-fire SMG for constant short fights?” Munition has even longer sightlines around hangars and a skybridge, and GAMINGbible notes that snipers can spoil close-range play there.
How should you build a CQC class?
Activision has not published a Shipment-specific loadout. Community guidance from GG Clan, written before MW4 Shipment was live and based on prior-title geometry, is directional rather than tested MW4 patch data: most fights occur inside about ten metres, so an SMG with tight hip-fire and fast aim-down-sight speed is favored over a slower assault rifle. A shotgun secondary covers corner peeks, flashbangs help clear turns and Semtex can punish stacked spawns.

It does not apply everywhere: Lithium’s official recommendation favors rifles and marksman weapons for mid-range sightlines.
Modern Warfare 4’s Create-a-Class systems support this approach. Activision’s August 2026 multiplayer deep dive says Gunny can recommend Short Range loadouts, while Apex Attachments let you customize how a weapon plays. The camo journey spans Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone, with three Mastery Camos per mode—nine total—so a small map can be useful when a challenge requires rapid close-range engagements.
When can you play Shipment, and is there a Shipment 24/7 playlist?
Modern Warfare 4 launched October 23, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC through Battle.net, Steam and Xbox PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Shipment was added October 27 and is available during the preseason. Gaming Hybrid reported a Shipment 24/7 playlist on October 28, so look for that playlist in the live multiplayer menu; Activision’s Season 1 announcement confirms Shipment’s availability and grinding recommendation but does not name “Shipment 24/7” in the text reviewed here.
Season 1 begins at 0000 ET on November 6, 2026 (2100 PT on November 5). Backstab, Canyon and Shoot House arrive then, alongside Grind, Drop Zone, a Gauntlet 1v1 Wager Match event and the static Kill Block Crash Combo. Ministry and Overflow are scheduled for mid-season, with additional unnamed maps later.
How do the rest of the Core pool fit into a CQC decision?
| Map | Setting | CQC profile |
|---|---|---|
| Cachette | French wine warehouse and garage by a rail terminal | Close-to-mid interiors; short-range backup useful in Garage, Armory and Server Room |
| Coal | Soviet-era coal-processing plant with ore chutes and a slurry river | Industrial mixed-range; not a box map |
| Lithium | Mexican lithium refinery beneath the Sierra Mountains | Mid-range dominant; ARs, LMGs and marksman rifles favored |
| Lotus | South Korean fishing village after an amphibious assault | Interior CQC mixed with long road sightlines |
| Mumbai | Residential district and Victorian market | Dense, flank-heavy urban CQC |
| Munition | North Korean command facility with hangars and skybridge | Open sightlines; long-range weapons can control approaches |
| Nautical | South Korean ferry at dawn | Frantic corridors plus longer deck fights |
| Reactor U92 | South Korean reactor in meltdown | Enclosed rooms around a large containment space |
| Rooftops | Snowy New York hotel rooftops | Vertical and dense, but not a flat box |
| Sentry | Russian military base in a whiteout | Mixed compound; GAMINGbible ranked it third overall |
| Silkworm | South Korean shopping district and subway entrance | Strong CQC lean; alleys and few vantage points |
| Transit 213 | Overgrown western India bus depot | Small, lane-based and grenade-heavy |
| Shipment | Russian harbor container yard | Official Small-Sized CQC remaster |
The launch pool contains 12 all-new Core maps plus Shipment, while the wider launch offering contains 20 named multiplayer spaces: 12 Core, three Ground War, four Gunfight and Kill Block. Ground War’s Imjin Farmland, Wolves Stadium and Forest are 32v32 environments and the opposite of small-map CQC.

Is Nuketown in Modern Warfare 4?
No. Nuketown has not been announced and is not in the official launch or current map lists. It is a Black Ops map, not a Modern Warfare map. The same caution applies to other classic maps such as Rust: do not assume an unannounced return from community speculation.
How we picked the CQC recommendations
The ranking uses four practical criteria: Activision’s official size and map descriptions; the distance and rhythm implied by lanes, interiors and sightlines; whether the map is live when this article is dated; and its usefulness for weapon-level or camo progress. Shipment ranks first because it is the only officially Small-Sized Core map and Activision explicitly recommends its engagement pace for early weapon ranks. Shoot House ranks next for structured CQC once Season 1 launches. Silkworm, Nautical, Mumbai, Transit 213, Kill Block and Library follow according to their mode, density and availability rather than an invented kill-rate score.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Shipment have 24/7 in MW4?
Gaming Hybrid reported a Shipment 24/7 playlist on October 28, 2026. Activision confirms Shipment is available in the preseason and recommends it for weapon ranks, but the Season 1 announcement reviewed here does not officially name a 24/7 playlist.
Is Transit 213 basically the same as Shipment?
No. Transit 213 is a bus-depot map with three lanes divided by derelict buses, and grenades play a larger role. It can support a fast grind, but its lanes and spawn behavior are different from Shipment’s container-yard loop.
Will Shoot House be playable before Season 1?
No. Activision schedules the reimagined Shoot House for Season 1 at 0000 ET on November 6, 2026. Before then, Kill Block offers a roughly Shoot House-sized footprint in Gunfight, but its Combo layout changes.
Which MW4 map should I use for shotgun camo challenges?
Shipment is the most direct choice because its officially Small-Sized layout keeps engagements close and frequent. Silkworm is a less chaotic Core alternative, while Lithium is a poor fit because Activision says its mid-range sightlines favor rifles and marksman weapons.
