The best mobile security app depends first on your phone. Android already includes Google Play Protect, scam warnings and theft protections, so a third-party app is most useful when you need additional web, call, privacy or anti-theft controls. On iPhone, do not expect an Android-style malware scanner: the iOS product documentation cited here focuses on security checks, breach monitoring, privacy features and VPN protection instead.
For Android, seven products received the maximum 6/6 protection, performance and usability scores in AV-TEST’s July 2026 evaluation: Avast Antivirus & Security, AVG Antivirus Free, Avira Antivirus Security, Bitdefender Mobile Security, F-Secure Total Security & VPN, Norton 360 and Sophos Intercept X for Mobile. That is a dated Android test snapshot, not an iPhone ranking or a guarantee against future threats. Bitdefender is the clearest cross-platform example in the available documentation; the other entries should be judged by the features and operating-system support shown in your current app-store listing.
What should you expect from a mobile security app in 2026?
A useful security app should solve a specific problem beyond the protections already enabled on the phone. Look for a documented combination of app or malware scanning, phishing and web warnings, scam or call controls, anti-theft recovery, privacy checks and breach monitoring. Also check whether each function works on your operating system: an Android scanner, an iPhone privacy checker and a VPN are different tools.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
What security does Android already provide?
Google Play Protect is the Android baseline. Google says it checks apps in Google Play before download, examines apps from other sources, and periodically scans installed apps. When it identifies a potentially harmful app, it can warn you, disable the app or remove it. It also provides privacy alerts and app-permission protections. See Google’s Play Protect guidance.
Android’s security overview also describes built-in scam and theft protections. Availability varies by device, Android release and rollout, so the labels and switches on your phone may differ; consult Android’s current security overview and your manufacturer’s support pages.
If you face elevated risk from sideloaded apps or targeted attacks, Advanced Protection adds stricter controls. Google says Play Protect cannot be disabled while Advanced Protection is enabled and installations from unknown sources are blocked. Other protections can have device or performance qualifications. Details are in Google’s Advanced Protection documentation.

How does iPhone protection differ from Android protection?
Do not transfer an Android antivirus review directly to an iPhone. The cited iOS documentation for Bitdefender describes security-configuration checks, data-exposure protection, online-account breach checks and an included VPN; it does not describe the Android-style scanning of every installed app. Read the iOS feature list for the exact product and avoid paying for a feature your device cannot expose.
For any iPhone app, verify the current App Store listing, supported iOS version, subscription limits and the permissions it requests. Android lab scores below are not evidence of iOS malware-detection performance.
What did the independent July 2026 Android test actually measure?
AV-TEST’s July 2026 evaluation covered 12 Android products using their default settings and current versions, with cloud updates allowed. It measured protection, performance and usability, including performance impact and false positives. Each category has a maximum of six points.
The seven products selected below all scored 6/6 in all three categories in that evaluation. The scores apply only to the listed Android versions and that July 2026 test window. They should not be generalized to iOS, another release, a different region or future threats.

Equal laboratory scores do not make these interchangeable. The practical differences are platform support, included controls, account requirements, subscription limits and how much of the protection you will actually use.
Which seven mobile security apps are worth considering?
The list is evidence-led rather than a claim that one universal winner exists. Every score in the table above is an Android result; feature descriptions are included only where the cited documentation establishes them.
1. Bitdefender Mobile Security — best documented cross-platform choice
Bitdefender has the most explicit platform-specific documentation in the available material. Its Android support page describes real-time malware scanning, web protection, anti-theft functions that can locate or wipe a lost device, and call blocking. The stated minimum is Android 6 or later, with an active internet connection required for activation and cloud scanning. Check the current requirements before installing because app versions can change. See Bitdefender’s Android documentation.
Its iOS page describes security-configuration checks, data-exposure protection, online-account breach checks and an included VPN. Those are privacy and account-safety functions, not proof of Android-equivalent app scanning on iPhone. Read the current iOS feature description before subscribing.
Choose it when: you want one documented product family for Android and iOS, with different functions on each platform. Check first: the current plan, VPN allowance, supported operating-system versions and whether anti-theft or call controls are available in your country.
2. Norton 360 — a high-scoring Android suite to verify by plan
Norton 360 26.11 achieved 6/6 protection, performance and usability in the July 2026 AV-TEST Android evaluation. The cited test does not establish which Norton features, plan limits or iOS functions are included in every region. Treat the lab result as evidence of that tested Android build, then inspect the current store listing and subscription description.
Choose it when: an independently tested Android suite fits your account and budget. Check first: whether the functions you need—such as web, identity, VPN or anti-theft controls—are included in the exact mobile plan rather than a desktop bundle.

- Travel Must-Have for People On the Go: A must-have travel accessory for flights, flying, airports, air travel, airplanes, planes, international trips, cruises, and long travel days. Key gadget for your airport haul, travel accessories and must-haves.
3. Avast Antivirus & Security — tested Android protection with feature verification required
Avast Antivirus & Security 26.11 received 6/6 in all three AV-TEST categories. The cited evidence does not provide a complete, current feature matrix or establish iPhone parity, so do not assume that a feature advertised for Android is available on iOS.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChoose it when: you want a well-performing Android build represented in the July 2026 test. Check first: the permissions requested, advertising or subscription behavior, and which web, scam, privacy or anti-theft functions are present in your region.
4. AVG Antivirus Free — a tested option with a free edition identified by the test name
AV-TEST evaluated “AVG Antivirus Free 26.6,” and it scored 6/6 for protection, performance and usability. “Free” describes the product name in that evaluation; features, advertising and upgrade limits can change, so confirm the current listing before relying on it as a no-cost solution.
Choose it when: you want to investigate a free Android tier that has a strong dated laboratory result. Check first: which scanning, web, call or privacy controls remain free and which require a subscription.
5. Avira Antivirus Security — tested Android protection for a feature-by-feature decision
Avira Antivirus Security 7.32 achieved 6/6 across protection, performance and usability in AV-TEST’s July 2026 Android snapshot. The cited sources do not establish its current iOS support, plan inclusions or exact anti-phishing and anti-theft tools. Use the score to shortlist the app, not to infer features that are not documented.
Choose it when: the current Android listing provides the controls you need and its permissions are acceptable. Check first: operating-system minimums, account requirements and whether privacy or VPN functions are separate paid modules.
6. F-Secure Total Security & VPN — a tested Android product whose plan details matter
F-Secure Total Security & VPN 26.5 scored 6/6 in each AV-TEST category. The product name indicates a VPN component, but the available evidence does not state its mobile data allowance, simultaneous-device limit, iOS behavior or other plan terms. Those details must come from the current listing or subscription page.

7. Sophos Intercept X for Mobile — a tested Android alternative for cautious administrators
Sophos Intercept X for Mobile 9.8 also earned 6/6 for protection, performance and usability in the July 2026 Android test. The cited material does not provide a current consumer feature list or iOS comparison, so verify whether the app supports your device and whether an account or particular edition is required.

How should you compare the seven options before installing one?
Use the following decision table as a checklist. “Not established” means the cited material does not support a claim; it is not evidence that the feature is absent.
| Decision point | What the available evidence supports | What you must verify |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | All seven have an Android build represented in AV-TEST. Bitdefender also documents a separate iOS product. | Current Android/iOS version support and country availability. |
| Malware or app scanning | Android test scores measure protection for the tested builds. Bitdefender documents real-time Android malware scanning. | Whether scanning is on-device, cloud-assisted, scheduled or manual, and whether it works on your OS. |
| Phishing and web protection | Bitdefender documents Android web protection; other products’ exact controls are not established here. | Browser coverage, encrypted-traffic handling and supported browsers. |
| Scam, call or text tools | Bitdefender documents call blocking on Android. Other products’ current tools are not established here. | Phone, SMS and messaging-app coverage in your region. |
| Anti-theft | Bitdefender documents locating or wiping a lost Android device. | Remote-lock, locate and wipe prerequisites, including account and location settings. |
| Privacy or breach monitoring | Bitdefender’s iOS page documents data-exposure and online-account breach checks. | Which accounts are monitored, alert timing and remediation guidance. |
| Performance evidence | All seven scored 6/6 performance and usability in the July 2026 Android test. | Battery impact on your phone, notification frequency and false-positive behavior in your normal apps. |
| Price and plan limits | No current prices or universal plan limits are established in the cited material. | Store price, renewal price, trial terms, device count, VPN allowance and free-tier restrictions in your currency. |
How do you set up Android’s built-in protections correctly?
- Update first. Install pending Android and Google Play system updates. Security apps cannot compensate for an unpatched operating system.
- Run Play Protect. Open Google Play, select your profile picture, choose Play Protect and start a scan. The exact wording can vary by Android release.
- Review harmful-app settings. In Play Protect, leave app scanning and improvement options enabled unless you have a specific, documented reason not to.
- Review scam and theft controls. Open your phone’s Security & privacy area and inspect the available scam, device-finding and theft-protection switches. Feature names differ by manufacturer.
- Consider Advanced Protection for higher risk. Read Google’s requirements before enabling it; it blocks installations from unknown sources and makes Play Protect non-disableable while active.
- Remove unnecessary sideloading. Turn off “install unknown apps” permissions for browsers and file managers you do not need. If you must sideload, obtain the file from the publisher and scan it before opening.
How do you install and configure a third-party security app?
- Use the official store. Search for the exact developer and app name in Google Play or the Apple App Store. Avoid APK mirrors and links in unsolicited messages.
- Check compatibility and privacy. Read the supported operating-system version, developer disclosures, requested permissions, account requirement and subscription renewal terms.
- Complete the first scan. Let the app update its threat data, then run its initial scan on a stable connection. Record any detection before deleting or quarantining a file.
- Enable only useful modules. Turn on web, call, anti-theft, breach or VPN functions you understand. Grant accessibility, notification or location access only when the feature requires it.
- Configure recovery. For anti-theft features, sign in, allow the required location or device-administration permissions and test the account-recovery path before the phone is lost.
- Schedule a review. Recheck permissions, subscriptions and app updates monthly. A security app that is expired, logged out or blocked from updating is not providing its advertised layer.
What common mistakes reduce mobile security?
- Installing several real-time scanners. Multiple apps can duplicate notifications, consume resources and interfere with one another. Keep Android’s baseline active and add one third-party real-time product unless the vendors explicitly document compatibility.
- Assuming a perfect lab score is permanent. The AV-TEST results cover named versions in July 2026. New malware, app updates and operating-system changes can alter protection.
- Ignoring false positives. A warning about a legitimate app can be caused by a changed package, an unusual permission or a compromised download. Verify the source and publisher before restoring anything.
- Granting every permission automatically. A flashlight or wallpaper app should not need accessibility, SMS or device-administrator access. Deny permissions unrelated to the stated function.
- Leaving a lost-device feature untested. Remote actions generally require the phone to be powered on, connected and associated with the correct account. Configure and test them while the device is in your possession.
- Confusing a VPN with malware protection. A VPN can protect traffic on some networks, but it does not by itself scan apps, identify a fake login page or recover a stolen phone.
Is a paid mobile security app worth it?
Paying makes sense when the subscription supplies a control you will use and Android’s baseline does not cover well for your situation—for example, documented anti-theft actions, call blocking, web protection, breach alerts or a VPN. It is harder to justify when you only want an occasional malware scan and you install apps exclusively from trusted stores with Play Protect enabled.
Compare the exact mobile plan, not the headline bundle. Confirm renewal pricing, number of devices, family sharing, VPN limits, supported browsers, cancellation rules and whether the iOS version has the same functions as Android. None of the cited material establishes current prices, so check the live store or vendor page in your country.
How should iPhone users choose?
Start with the security and privacy controls already shown in iOS settings, then select an app for a clearly documented purpose such as breach monitoring, configuration checks or a VPN. Bitdefender’s iOS documentation is an example of this model: it lists those functions rather than Android-style app scanning. Do not use the Android 6/6 scores as an iPhone quality ranking.

Before subscribing, check the App Store’s supported iOS version, the data linked to you, the subscription period and whether the app can perform its advertised checks without a corporate account. If the listing does not clearly explain what it can inspect on iPhone, treat that as a reason to keep looking.
What is the practical recommendation for 2026?
For most Android owners, leave Play Protect, scam protections and theft protections enabled first. Then choose one third-party app based on a concrete gap: Bitdefender has the clearest documented Android and iOS feature split; the other six are credible Android shortlists because they all achieved 6/6 across AV-TEST’s July 2026 categories. For iPhone owners, prioritize documented privacy, breach and network functions and ignore Android lab rankings.
Use the test scores as a quality signal for the specific Android versions evaluated—not as a promise, a universal ranking or a substitute for updates, careful permissions and safe downloading.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do iPhones need an antivirus app?
Not necessarily. On iPhone, third-party products generally add focused services such as breach monitoring, security-configuration checks, privacy alerts or a VPN rather than scanning every installed app like an Android antivirus. Choose one only when its current App Store description documents a function you need.
Is Google Play Protect enough if I install APK files?
Play Protect checks apps from outside Google Play as well as Play Store downloads, but sideloading increases exposure and can bypass safer distribution controls. Keep unknown-source permissions off when possible, obtain files from the original publisher and consider Advanced Protection if its restrictions fit your situation.
Can two mobile security apps protect a phone better than one?
Usually not for real-time protection. Duplicate scanners can produce conflicting alerts, extra battery use and permission overlap. Keep the operating system’s built-in protection enabled and add one clearly compatible third-party product for the specific feature you are missing.
Why did a security app’s score change after an update?
Independent scores apply to a particular version, default configuration and test period. An app update, changed permissions, new threat behavior or a different operating-system release can change protection, performance or usability, so treat an old score as historical evidence rather than a permanent guarantee.
