The Beelink Mini S12 with an Intel N100, 16 GB of RAM, and a 500 GB SSD is a plausible low-cost mini PC for a pre-recorded YouTube Live stream—but it is not a proven 24/7 streaming machine. Beelink’s product page displayed $189 for that configuration and marked it sold out when accessed in 2026. Check the current listing, then test the exact machine, video, and encoder for an extended period before relying on it unattended.
If you want the channel to stay live without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo is the cloud alternative to consider first: it loops uploaded videos on YouTube, at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free. The rest of this guide covers the local mini-PC approach and its limits.
Which low-cost mini PC is a reasonable candidate?
The Beelink Mini S12 configuration with an Intel N100, 16 GB RAM, and 500 GB SSD is a sensible candidate to evaluate for a basic software-encoder setup. Beelink lists a four-core, four-thread N100 processor up to 3.4 GHz, Intel UHD Graphics, gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6, and dual HDMI. Its product page displayed $189 when accessed in 2026, but the configuration was marked sold out. Price and availability can change; verify the exact bundle and stock on Beelink’s product page.
Those specifications do not establish that the Mini S12 can encode your chosen video reliably around the clock. The cited manufacturer and YouTube pages do not provide continuous-encoding tests, workload power consumption, an uptime record, or a 24/7 reliability certification for this model. Treat it as a budget PC candidate, not a streaming appliance with guaranteed uptime.

How the local mini-PC workflow works
A mini PC runs an encoder that sends video to YouTube. You supply the prerecorded video to the encoder and configure YouTube’s stream URL and stream key. The computer, encoder software, network connection, and power must remain available for the broadcast to continue.
- Prepare the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, create or configure the live stream and copy its stream URL and stream key. In your encoder, enter them in the server/URL and stream-key fields. YouTube describes the key as the encoder’s password and address; keep it private, and regenerate it if exposed. See Manage live stream settings.
- Choose and configure an encoder. YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS delivery and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, at frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Match the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, and codec to the prepared video and the bitrate guidance for that combination. For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps. Refer to YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for other combinations and current values.
- Load the prerecorded content. Configure the encoder to play the intended file or playlist, and confirm what it does when the media ends. The software’s loop and restart behavior varies; verify it rather than assuming that a finished file will keep the live broadcast supplied with video.
- Set stream start and stop behavior. YouTube allows custom stream keys to be reused and provides auto-start and auto-stop settings. Choose settings that fit your workflow; a reusable key is still a credential, not a public link. Details are in YouTube’s live stream settings help.
- Connect and test the network. Use an upload connection with headroom beyond the target video bitrate, and test the actual stream for stability and quality. The Mini S12 listing includes gigabit LAN, so Ethernet is an option if the router is nearby. YouTube advises testing before a live stream; its guidance does not quantify a reliability advantage for wired Ethernet over Wi-Fi.
- Run a sustained trial and monitor it. Test the full video, encoder settings, playlist transitions, and intended run duration. YouTube advises monitoring audio and video quality and describes testing encoder failover. For an unattended setup, arrange a way to notice an outage and verify that your recovery procedure works; the PC alone does not guarantee recovery.
Settings and checks that matter for an unattended stream
- Bitrate: Use YouTube’s recommendation for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate. The cited 10 Mbps value is for H.264 at 1080p30, not a universal setting. The upload connection needs capacity beyond the video bitrate.
- Keyframes and rate control: YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, with the interval no longer than four seconds.
- Protocol and codec: YouTube lists RTMPS as the secure option and supports RTMP/RTMPS workflows with H.264, H.265, or AV1. Confirm that your chosen encoder and configuration match the current YouTube guidance.
- Credentials: Do not publish or share the stream key. If you suspect it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live settings and update the encoder.
- Content rights and policies: Only stream video and audio you have the rights to use, and ensure the channel’s content complies with YouTube policies. A prerecorded format does not itself establish that material is authorized or eligible to remain live.
- Archive expectations: YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a broadcast that may exceed 12 hours, check current platform behavior and make a separate plan if you need an archive; do not assume a longer stream will be saved automatically.
- Monitoring and recovery: A long test can expose playback stops, network drops, encoder errors, or stream interruptions. YouTube recommends continuous monitoring for audio and video quality and discusses encoder failover in its live streaming tips.
Local mini PC or dedicated playback hardware?
| Option | Prerecorded scheduling | Control and setup | Cost and evidence limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mini PC plus software encoder | Depends on the encoder and how you configure its media playback or playlist. | Flexible local control, but you must configure, power, connect, test, and monitor the computer and encoder. | The Mini S12 listing showed $189 for the 16 GB/500 GB configuration when accessed in 2026, but it was sold out. No comparative reliability or continuous-encoding measurements are established. |
| AJA HELO Plus with PlayToStream | YouTube’s verified-encoder directory describes PlayToStream as a way to schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. | A dedicated hardware workflow; confirm that its functions fit your scheduling and monitoring needs. | The cited YouTube source does not state its price or establish that it is a low-cost substitute. See YouTube’s encoder directory and setup guidance. |
These are different workflows rather than a proven performance ranking: the available sources do not provide comparable prices, reliability measurements, or tests over the same duration. For either approach, check the exact setup against the length and recovery needs of your broadcast.

Cost and reliability considerations
The Mini S12’s displayed $189 asking price was tied to a specific 16 GB RAM/500 GB SSD configuration and a listing marked sold out when accessed in 2026. It is not a guaranteed current price or an indication of market availability. Budget also for any network or power equipment you need, and account for the time required to set up, test, and monitor a local stream. No cited source establishes this model’s power draw during encoding or its expected service life under continuous operation.
If a brief power interruption is a concern, a UPS sized for the computer and network equipment may help bridge it; the right capacity and runtime depend on your equipment and were not established here. A wired Ethernet cable can connect the mini PC to a nearby router, but test your upload connection either way.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Recheck the stream URL and stream key in both YouTube Studio and the encoder. Treat the key as a password; replace it if it may have been exposed.
- The stream buffers or drops: Test upload capacity and stability while the encoder is sending at the chosen bitrate. Check the encoder’s output settings against YouTube’s current recommendations and reduce the stream target if the connection cannot sustain it.
- The broadcast ends when the video finishes: Check the encoder’s file and playlist behavior, including what happens at the end of the media. Confirm looping with a sustained test instead of assuming the encoder will repeat the content.
- Audio or video quality degrades: Monitor the live output and compare the encoder configuration with YouTube’s guidance for codec, frame rate, resolution, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval. Test the exact media file used for the stream.
- The stream does not recover after interruption: Identify whether the failure came from the encoder, internet connection, power, or YouTube ingest, then test the relevant restart or failover procedure. Arrange outage notifications or another means to verify recovery; do not infer recovery from the PC’s specifications.
- You need a recording of a very long live stream: Do not rely on automatic archiving for a stream longer than 12 hours. Check YouTube’s current behavior and arrange a separate recording or archive plan if required.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a prerecorded YouTube channel that stays live without a home computer running, StreamNeo is a direct alternative to managing a mini PC and encoder.
