The PlayStation product page describes 60 action-packed levels, unlockable outfits, Supa Gadgets, time challenges, mystery levels and boss encounters with Dr. Scum and his minions. Those features make it a licensed character platformer with a clear level structure, not an open-world game or a purely educational title.
Which game should my child play after Dog Man?
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the best all-around next choice for most families because it keeps the colorful 2D movement and cooperative platforming while offering a larger, more flexible platforming system. The other picks are better when a child values a particular license, a simpler format or a move into 3D exploration.
1. Super Mario Bros. Wonder — best overall Switch alternative
If your child likes Dog Man’s colorful side-scrolling action but wants a deeper platformer, start with Super Mario Bros. Wonder. It stays in the 2D platforming lane, so running, jumping, collecting and reaching the end of a stage remain familiar, but the game gives families more room to vary how they play.
Nintendo’s character design is especially useful for mixed-skill households. Yoshi can eat enemies, flutter-jump and help carry other players, giving a newer player a way to contribute without demanding the same precision as a more experienced sibling or parent. That assistance is a documented character ability, not a guarantee that every stage will be easy.
- Why it matches: colorful stages, comic effects, character variety and cooperative 2D movement.
- Why it is different: it is a traditional platformer rather than a Dog Man story, and its Wonder effects can change how a stage behaves.
- Choose it when: the family owns a Switch and wants the strongest combination of platforming depth and flexible assistance.
2. PAW Patrol World — best for younger fans of TV characters
For a child who wants another team of recognizable heroes, PAW Patrol World is the most direct character-led alternative. Xbox classifies it under Family & kids, Action & adventure and Platformer, and its listing explicitly says a friend can join in split-screen co-op.
The appeal here is familiarity and low setup friction: children who already know the television characters can understand the team premise immediately. Compared with Dog Man’s collection of comic characters and gadgets, the focus is on a recognizable rescue-team cast and straightforward shared play. The available evidence supports calling it a simpler, younger-skewing option, but not assigning a specific age or difficulty level beyond the platform’s family classification.
- Why it matches: licensed children’s characters, platforming, action and local split-screen co-op.
- Why it is different: the documented emphasis is character familiarity and accessible family play rather than Dog Man’s comic-book arsenal, 60-level structure or mystery challenges.
- Choose it when: a younger player cares more about playing as a known television team than mastering demanding platforming.
3. LEGO Horizon Adventures — best for family co-op with more exploration
LEGO Horizon Adventures is the right step when the family wants to move beyond a linear 2D platformer. PlayStation presents it as a family-friendly action adventure with colorful LEGO characters, customization, secrets and both couch and online co-op.

- Choose it when: the child is ready for more navigation, discovery and combat variety, and the family wants a choice between couch and online co-op.
4. LEGO games, Minecraft and Chicory: A Colorful Tale — broader family-game options
These are useful category recommendations rather than exact Dog Man replacements. PlayStation’s family guide highlights LEGO games, Minecraft and Chicory: A Colorful Tale for qualities such as humor, licensed characters, collectible secrets, multiplayer or collaborative mechanics.
LEGO games are the closest tonal match in this group: they commonly use playful versions of familiar worlds, collectibles and cooperative problem solving. Minecraft is a much more open-ended building and survival experience, so it suits a child who wants to create rather than follow a fixed platforming route. Chicory: A Colorful Tale is a collaborative, art-focused adventure and is better for families looking for shared problem solving and creative interaction than for constant action.
- Why they match: humor, colorful presentation and opportunities for parents and children to cooperate.
- Why they are different: the movement, structure and content vary substantially by title; none should be treated as a one-to-one Dog Man clone.
- Choose this group when: your child’s favorite part is the family tone, collecting, creativity or teamwork rather than specifically jumping through 2D stages.
How do the games compare for a parent and child?
The most important split is between 2D platforming and 3D or open-ended play. Dog Man and Super Mario Bros. Wonder keep the camera and movement focused on side-scrolling stages. PAW Patrol World is also classified as a platformer, while LEGO Horizon Adventures adds 3D exploration and the broader family-game group varies by title.

How do I choose the right Dog Man-like game?
Match the game to the child’s preferred characters, the hardware already in the house and how much help the adults want to provide. Use this checklist before buying.
Choose Dog Man for comic-book continuity
Pick Dog Man: Bark in Action when the child specifically wants Dav Pilkey’s world, multiple heroes, Supa Gadgets, outfits and a campaign built around 60 action-packed levels. Its local one- or two-player format suits a parent and child sharing one system.
Choose Mario for platforming growth
Pick Super Mario Bros. Wonder when the child wants to keep jumping through colorful 2D stages but the adults want more depth and character-based ways to reduce frustration. Yoshi’s eating, flutter-jump and carrying abilities make the choice more adaptable for mixed experience levels.
Choose PAW Patrol for immediate recognition
Pick PAW Patrol World when the license is the deciding factor and split-screen play is important. It is the clearest fit for a younger fan who wants to control familiar television heroes rather than discover a new cast.
Choose LEGO Horizon for a bigger adventure
Pick LEGO Horizon Adventures when the child is ready to explore 3D spaces, search for secrets and handle more varied action. Its couch and online co-op options give families more ways to play together, although online play introduces setup considerations that do not apply to a same-system session.

Choose the broader family category for creativity
Choose a LEGO title, Minecraft or Chicory: A Colorful Tale when the child’s interest extends beyond platforming. These games can satisfy a love of humor, collecting, making things or solving problems together, but the exact age fit and multiplayer rules depend on the individual title.
What should parents know about age rating and cartoon combat?
The ESRB rates Dog Man: Bark in Action E for Everyone with Mild Fantasy Violence. That rating signals a broadly family-oriented presentation, not an absence of combat: the game includes attacks against cartoony enemies using jumps, bones and boxing gloves.
Ratings do not measure a child’s reading ability, motor skills or tolerance for action. A child who is comfortable with slapstick cartoon conflict may still need help with timing, puzzles or camera and movement changes in a different game. For that reason, compare the format as well as the rating: Mario stays in 2D platforming, PAW Patrol World emphasizes a family television cast, and LEGO Horizon Adventures adds 3D exploration and more varied combat.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow we picked these alternatives
The ranking uses documented features rather than hands-on performance claims. The criteria were:
- Similarity to Dog Man’s colorful, child-friendly action and platforming.
- Whether a parent and child can play together locally, or online where the listing explicitly supports it.
- Strength of the recognizable-character appeal.
- How clearly the game’s movement, puzzles, exploration and combat differ from or build on a 2D side-scroller.
- Platform information and age/content guidance available from official listings.
That method puts Super Mario Bros. Wonder first as the broadest 2D family alternative, while preserving PAW Patrol, LEGO Horizon and the wider family-game category for different priorities.
What should I check before buying?
Confirm the edition for your console or PC, then verify whether the multiplayer mode you want is local, split-screen, couch co-op or online. Platform listings can differ by region and edition, and a game’s family rating does not tell you whether it uses the same 2D movement your child already knows.
For Dog Man: Bark in Action, the announced platforms are Nintendo Switch, Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The Nintendo listing specifically covers one or two players on one system; check the listing for the platform you own before assuming another edition has identical features.
Which platform and multiplayer setup is right for your family?
Dog Man: Bark in Action has the broadest announced platform coverage in this comparison: Nintendo Switch, Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. That makes it practical when different family members already own different hardware, but the exact feature list should still be checked for the edition you plan to buy. The Switch listing specifically says one or two players can use one system.

The alternatives are less uniform. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a Nintendo Switch choice. The cited PAW Patrol World information confirms an Xbox listing and split-screen co-op, but does not establish every other console edition. LEGO Horizon Adventures is described on a PlayStation family page with both couch and online co-op. “Online co-op” is not the same as playing together on one television, so families should decide whether they need an extra console, an online account or simply a second controller on the same system.
None of the documented listings confirms cross-platform multiplayer. Unless a game’s own support page says otherwise, plan on players using the same supported platform. For a parent and child sitting together, local or split-screen wording is the most useful confirmation.
What does Dog Man offer beyond basic jumping?
The 60-level structure gives the game more than a short character tie-in. The product description also names time challenges and mystery levels, which can give families optional goals after a straightforward run through a stage. Unlockable outfits and Supa Gadgets add collection and customization elements, while boss encounters against Dr. Scum and his minions provide larger set-piece battles.

The 10 playable comic characters are another reason to choose Dog Man over a generic platformer. Each character is described as having a unique power, so the child can connect the action to familiar faces from Dav Pilkey’s books. The combination of character abilities, puzzles and cartoon attacks may appeal to a reader who wants the game to feel like an extension of the comics rather than only a sequence of jumps.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should parents think about difficulty?
There is no reliable hands-on difficulty test to rank these games precisely. A safer comparison is to look at the kind of problem each game asks the child to solve. Dog Man and Mario use side-scrolling timing and platform navigation. Dog Man adds puzzles, gadgets, time challenges and mystery levels; Mario adds character-based assistance such as Yoshi’s flutter-jump and ability to carry other players. PAW Patrol World’s family-and-kids classification and split-screen emphasis point toward an accessible character-led experience, while LEGO Horizon asks players to navigate 3D spaces and discover secrets.
That means “easier” depends on the child. A player who struggles with precise jumps may appreciate an assistive character, while a player who finds camera movement confusing may prefer a 2D stage. Try to match the control problem to the child’s existing comfort instead of treating an age label as a complete difficulty rating.
Is there a quote that captures the Dog Man appeal?
Mindscape’s October 27, 2026 launch announcement describes the game with the line “More Heroes. More Action. Same Chaos.” It neatly summarizes the product’s emphasis on a large comic-book cast, playful action and cooperative mayhem without suggesting that it is an educational game or an open-world adventure.
Buying and availability cautions
Do not assume that a physical copy, a particular package or a current sale exists simply because a game has an official announcement. Physical-edition status, retailer stock and current prices require a live check of the store serving your country. The same applies to platform-specific multiplayer: a feature listed for Switch or Xbox should not automatically be presumed to appear identically on PC or another console.

For a sensible purchase comparison, first identify the hardware, then the preferred play format, then the content match. A Switch family seeking the closest 2D option should look at Super Mario Bros. Wonder. A child who mainly wants familiar rescue characters should verify the PAW Patrol World edition and its split-screen support. A household interested in exploration should confirm whether LEGO Horizon Adventures is available on its chosen PlayStation system and whether couch or online co-op better fits the setup. The direct Dog Man purchase is the most natural choice when the comic license, 10 characters, gadgets and 60 levels matter more than broad genre variety.

Is Minecraft a direct replacement for Dog Man?
