There is no official Gran Turismo 7 setting proven fastest for every player, car, and controller or wheel. For fast, stable laps, use a response you can control consistently, then compare settings through repeatable laps rather than copying a supposedly universal sensitivity or force-feedback number.
That matters especially after GT7’s August 20, 2026, 1.71 update, which refined steering and pedal responses for wireless controllers and changed force-feedback behavior for steering controllers. Treat old settings as a baseline to check, not a permanent prescription.
What changed in GT7’s latest steering update?
Gran Turismo’s 1.71 update notice, dated August 20, 2026, reports changes to both input paths:
- Wireless controllers: refined steering response for analog sticks and the directional pad, plus improved throttle and brake response.
- Steering controllers: revised force-feedback torque strength and friction, refined understeer vibration, and improved throttle and brake response.
The notice also says GT-optimized tuning-menu Auto Setup parameters were revised for the Fanatec GT DD Pro, GT DD Extreme, and Podium. Firmware may be required. Podium Auto Setup applies to Low Torque mode; High Torque mode requires manual parameters. FullForce is supported on the GT DD Pro and requires firmware.

- PlayStation compatible: Officially licensed for PS5 and PS4 consoles. Also works on Windows PC
- 5 Nm Direct Drive servo motor: Custom-designed in Germany for sim racing providing linear, consistent performance with patented FluxBarrier technology to improve motor efficiency and smoothness
- Passively cooled base: Housing is made from aluminum (passive heat sink, core structural component) with composite end caps
- Steering wheel designed by Polyphony Digital: Tactile rubber grip with OLED display and diffused RevLED strip, compact 280 mm diameter, optimized for the PlayStation interface
- Four 5-way directional sticks: Assigned to GT7's rapid-access adjustments for traction control, brake balance, torque split, and fuel mapping
Earlier official updates also changed wheel feedback and driving behavior. The 1.65 notice added simulated friction for select wheels and described it as an effort to bring steering feel closer to a real car; the 1.66 update details adjusted steering-controller force feedback. A March 2023 update notice also documented changes to controller algorithms and assistance settings. These updates are why an older setup should be rechecked in the current game.
How to find settings that suit your controller
There is no official numeric sensitivity prescription identified as fastest. Start from a familiar, predictable response and change one input setting at a time. The aim is to make small steering, throttle, and brake adjustments without repeatedly overcorrecting.
- Choose one car, track, and session type, and keep conditions the same for each comparison.
- Drive several clean laps using your current settings. Note both your best lap and whether you can repeat the pace without spins, missed braking points, or abrupt corrections.
- Change only one steering or pedal-response setting, then repeat the same laps.
- Keep the change only if it improves control or repeatability without making another input harder to modulate. If consistency gets worse, return to the familiar baseline.
This is a practical comparison method, not a published lap-time test. No controlled evidence in the cited official sources establishes that a particular controller sensitivity setting produces a specific time gain.

How to set up a steering wheel
Begin with GT7’s supported setup for your wheel and follow the wheel maker’s current firmware guidance. Aim for force feedback that communicates the car’s behavior without making corrections difficult. If it feels excessive or produces harsh vibration, lower force-feedback max torque or sensitivity rather than trying to hold on through it.

GT7’s 1.15 update details from May 2022 warn that very high max torque or force-feedback sensitivity may cause violent vibration on several listed wheels, and advise: “If this happens, please set a lower value.” This is a safety and control warning, not a recommended universal torque value.
Feedback features can depend on the model and firmware. The 1.65 notice says simulated friction was added to selected force-feedback wheels and documents FullForce support for the GT DD Extreme; it also notes that the in-game vibration-function setting can disable FullForce. The 1.71 notice adds GT DD Pro FullForce support, with firmware required. If your wheel supports a feature but it is unavailable or feels different from expected, check the manufacturer’s firmware guidance and GT7’s current compatibility notes.

Fanatec GT DD Pro, GT DD Extreme, and Podium
For these Fanatec models, the 1.71 update provides revised GT Auto Setup parameters in the tuning menu. Apply the update and check whether firmware is needed. For Podium, use the Auto Setup only in Low Torque mode; High Torque mode requires manual parameters. FullForce on the GT DD Pro also requires firmware.
Logitech G923
Gran Turismo’s G923 compatibility notice, dated March 21, 2023, documents TRUEFORCE support, wheel-input checking, pedal-sensitivity calibration, and in-game vibration-strength adjustment. The notice says vibration strength is 100 by default; that is a product setting, not a fastest-lap recommendation. If vibration is excessive or loud, choose a level that remains comfortable and clear.

The cited official sources do not establish that a controller or wheel is categorically quicker. Choose based on the input you can control consistently and the setup you already have; compare the practical trade-offs rather than assuming one device guarantees faster laps.
| Consideration | Controller | Steering wheel |
|---|---|---|
| Control feel | Analog-stick or directional-pad steering and trigger response were refined in update 1.71. | Force-feedback torque, friction, and understeer vibration were changed in update 1.71; behavior and features vary by model. |
| Setup work | Check steering and pedal response, then tune one parameter at a time. | May involve device compatibility, firmware, force-feedback tuning, and pedal calibration. |
| Existing equipment | Use the controller you already have and focus on repeatable input. | Use a supported wheel you own; do not buy one solely on the assumption it will lower lap times. |
| Evidence of a universal lap-time advantage | Not established by the cited official sources. | Not established by the cited official sources. |
A repeatable way to validate a setup
Keep a short note of the device, settings, car, track, and conditions for each comparison. Change a single setting, drive multiple clean laps, and judge consistency alongside your best lap. This separates a genuinely controllable setup from one that produces a single quick lap followed by errors; it does not imply that a particular setting has been tested or proven fastest.
