The best replacement depends on what you want to improve: the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the closest fit for a current Google foldable with a large inner screen, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a current Samsung option with a different software and multitasking environment, and the older Galaxy Z Fold 7 or OnePlus Open may be worth considering only if their current price, availability, and support make sense.
There is no universal winner. The right choice turns on closed-phone comfort, camera needs, durability, portability, software preference, and the price you can actually buy at in your market.

| Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 | A previous-generation Samsung option, if discounted | TechRadar’s guide, updated July 24, 2026, reports an 8-inch main display, 6.5-inch cover display, 200 MP main camera, and a US launch starting price of $1,999.99. | It is not the latest generation in the sources available here; check present stock and sale price. Which alternative should you choose?
Choose Pixel 10 Pro Fold for a current Google foldable
Google lists an 8-inch inner folding display with 2076 × 2152 OLED resolution and a 1–120 Hz refresh rate. The product page lists a folded size of 6.1 × 3 × 0.4 inches, weight of 9.1 oz, and a US starting price of $1,799. See Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold specifications. TechRadar’s 2026 foldable roundup selects it for durability, citing IP68, magnetic charging, a larger battery, and a 5× telephoto camera (TechRadar’s foldable guide, updated July 24, 2026).
#1 Best Overall
- Unfold extraordinary with Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold; with Pixel’s largest screen and Gemini, Google’s most advanced AI, it’s made for multitasking and entertainment[1]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[14]
- The gearless, high-strength hinge makes it durable enough to handle about 10 years of folding[3]; plus, Pixel 10 Pro Fold is built with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance[4]
- The brighter-than-ever 8-inch Super Actua Flex display is Pixel’s largest screen yet[12]; and you can use Split Screen to plan a trip, drag and drop images, and open multiple apps at once[5]
This is the natural option if you want to stay with Google’s foldable line and value the camera reach and ingress rating that TechRadar calls out. Those strengths are not proof it is best for every buyer: TechRadar names the Z Fold 7 its best overall pick in that guide, while a newer Z Fold 8 review is also available. Choose by the features you value, not by a single ranking.
Choose Galaxy Z Fold 8 for Samsung’s software and multitasking
Tom’s Guide reports the Z Fold 8 at $1,899 to start, with a 5.5-inch cover screen, 7.6-inch inner display, 201 g weight, 4,800 mAh battery, and 45 W wired and 20 W wireless charging (Tom’s Guide’s review). These are review-reported specifications and pricing, not an official Samsung specification page; verify the exact model and local price before purchase.
It is worth comparing if you want Samsung’s software and multitasking environment or a thinner current Samsung foldable. Tom’s Guide also identifies the trade-offs: the base version has no telephoto camera, carries an IP48 rating rather than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s cited IP68, and has a short cover screen. Review battery-test results, if you consult them, describe that test setup—not a guaranteed result for every owner.

Consider Galaxy Z Fold 7 only as a discounted previous generation
TechRadar’s July 24, 2026 guide calls the Z Fold 7 its best overall foldable and lists an 8-inch main screen, 6.5-inch cover screen, 200 MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, and 12 or 16 GB of RAM. Its $1,999.99 US starting price is the guide’s reported launch price, not a current quote (TechRadar’s foldable guide). Since the Z Fold 8 is also covered as a newer model, treat the Z Fold 7 as a previous-generation purchase and compare its actual sale price against the newer phone. TechRadar notes its thin, light design and camera hardware, as well as its high price and lack of S Pen support.

TechRadar describes the OnePlus Open as a 2023-era foldable with 7.82-inch and 6.31-inch screens and notes it may be less expensive than newer flagships. Its age, durability, lack of stylus support, and smaller feature set relative to Samsung make it a conditional value pick, not a current-generation recommendation. Before choosing it, verify local stock, software-support terms, warranty coverage, and repair availability (TechRadar’s OnePlus buying guide).

Closed-phone comfort matters more than cover-screen diagonal alone
A larger diagonal does not automatically mean a more comfortable phone for typing or one-handed use; width, aspect ratio, and how the phone feels in your hand matter too. The cited sources report a 5.5-inch cover screen for Z Fold 8 and 6.5 inches for Z Fold 7, but those figures alone do not establish which is more ergonomic. If possible, handle the exact model before buying.
Compare inner screens as well as the folded phone
The reported inner-screen sizes vary: Google lists 8 inches for Pixel 10 Pro Fold, TechRadar lists 8 inches for Z Fold 7, and Tom’s Guide reports 7.6 inches for Z Fold 8. Because these details come from different sources, confirm the manufacturer specifications for the precise regional model you intend to buy. Think about what you will do with the unfolded screen—reading, video, or multitasking—rather than treating a diagonal measurement as a complete measure of usefulness.
Check weight and thickness for everyday carry
Tom’s Guide reports 201 g for Z Fold 8, while Google lists Pixel 10 Pro Fold at 9.1 oz. Android Authority’s earlier comparison gives 215 g for Z Fold 7 and describes a thinner folded profile (Android Authority’s alternatives article). These figures come from different pages and models; use the official specifications for the version on sale, and consider how the closed device feels in a pocket or during extended use.
Look at camera hardware, not just megapixels
The relevant differences in the cited coverage are practical: TechRadar calls out Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s 5× telephoto, while Tom’s Guide says the base Z Fold 8 does not have a telephoto camera. TechRadar lists a 200 MP main camera on the Z Fold 7. Megapixel count alone does not establish photo quality, so prioritize the lens types and zoom range you actually use.

Understand what an IP rating does—and does not—tell you
TechRadar cites IP68 for Pixel 10 Pro Fold, while Tom’s Guide reports IP48 for Z Fold 8. The ratings identify ingress-protection categories; they do not make a foldable immune to damage or guarantee safety from every dust or water exposure. If this difference is decisive, confirm the rating and its conditions in the official documentation for your regional model.
Price the whole purchase and verify support locally
The listed references—Google’s $1,799 starting price, Tom’s Guide’s $1,899 Z Fold 8 starting price, and TechRadar’s historical Z Fold 7 launch price—are US-facing, dated figures, not live quotes for every market. Compare today’s actual price, trade-in terms, carrier bands, warranty, and access to service. For an older OnePlus Open, local repair and software support are especially important to verify before purchase.
