Best overall: The ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM is the strongest all-round choice identified by RTINGS for PS5 use in its 2026 guide. It combines a 27-inch 3840 × 2160 QD-OLED panel, 4K/120Hz PS5 support, excellent contrast, vivid HDR and very fast response. Choose the Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx if you need a brighter LCD image, the Dell S2725QS for a lower-cost native-4K/120Hz route, or the KOORUI S2721PM only if you accept 1440p instead of native 4K.

The important qualification is that a monitor’s advertised refresh rate does not prove that a PS5 will receive 4K at 120Hz. You must verify the exact HDMI input, supported signal, firmware, cable, VRR behavior and HDR behavior. Sony says the PS5 supports HDMI 2.1 and 4K 120Hz output, but compatibility still depends on the complete display path.

What the PS5 can actually output

Sony PlayStation Support states: “The PS5 console supports the HDMI 2.1 specification, and it also supports 4K 120Hz video output.” That establishes the console’s capability, not a guarantee that every game, cable, monitor or HDMI input will deliver the mode.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

4K means 3840 × 2160 pixels, four times the pixel count of 1920 × 1080. A PS5 can negotiate 4K at up to 120Hz when the monitor and connection accept that signal. The console’s maximum output is 120Hz; a 240Hz monitor cannot make the PS5 output 240 frames per second. Extra refresh capacity is useful only for another source, such as a gaming PC.

Do not describe every game as running at 4K and 120 frames per second. Sony documents console output modes, while actual rendering depends on each game’s graphics and performance modes. Treat 4K/120Hz as a supported display signal and check individual game documentation for its available modes.

How to verify a monitor before purchase

1. Confirm native resolution

For a true 4K monitor, the panel must be 3840 × 2160. A monitor can accept a 4K input and scale it to a lower panel resolution, but that is not native 4K. The KOORUI S2721PM illustrates the distinction: it can accept 1440p/120Hz or downscaled 4K/60Hz, yet its panel is 1440p.

2. Check the specific HDMI input

Read the manual or input specification for the HDMI socket you will use. HDMI 2.1 bandwidth is the clearest route to 4K/120Hz, but the label on the product box is not enough. Some monitors have one high-bandwidth HDMI port and other ports with lower limits. Connect the PS5 to the documented high-bandwidth input, not merely the first socket you see.

3. Verify the complete signal combination

Look for an explicit statement that the monitor accepts 3840 × 2160 at 120Hz from a PS5, and separately confirm whether HDR and VRR work at that same signal. RTINGS tests console signals rather than inferring behavior from a panel’s maximum refresh rate. It also notes that some HDMI 2.0 monitors can support PS5 HDMI Forum VRR even though HDMI 2.1 remains the safer choice for 4K/120Hz.

4. Check VRR and HDR together

Variable refresh rate (VRR) synchronizes the display’s refresh timing with the console’s output to reduce tearing and uneven motion. High Dynamic Range (HDR) expands brightness and color information when the game and display support it. A monitor may support both features separately but limit one when the other is enabled, so verify the exact 4K/120Hz combination you plan to use.

5. Confirm firmware and cable requirements

Sony recommends the HDMI cable included with the PS5, or another correctly rated Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable, and a direct connection from the console to the monitor. Avoid routing the signal through an unverified receiver, switch or capture device while troubleshooting.

Top PS5 monitor choices in detail

ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM: best overall

RTINGS selects the PG27UCDM as its best overall PS5 monitor in the 2026 list. Its 27-inch 3840 × 2160 QD-OLED panel combines native 4K detail with a 240Hz maximum refresh rate and confirmed PS5 4K/120Hz support. OLED pixels can turn off individually, producing the deep blacks and strong contrast that make dark game scenes stand out.

QD-OLED also gives the display vivid HDR color and very fast response, which benefits both 120Hz console play and high-refresh PC gaming. The 240Hz ceiling is headroom for a second device, not an increase to the PS5’s 120Hz limit.

The principal environmental caveat is bright-room performance. RTINGS reports that blacks can look purple in bright surroundings, so position the monitor away from direct sunlight and strong reflections if dark-scene accuracy matters. This is a premium choice; buyers focused on minimum cost should consider an LCD model instead.

Dell Alienware AW2725Q: upper mid-range OLED alternative

The AW2725Q is another 27-inch 4K QD-OLED option with HDMI 2.1 support for the PS5 signal path. It delivers the characteristic OLED strengths of deep contrast, saturated color and rapid response, making it a good fit for a dim or controlled gaming room.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

RTINGS reports that its HDR is less accurate and dimmer than the leading OLED alternative. It also lacks a monitor audio jack, which matters if you connect headphones or speakers through the display rather than directly to the console. Check your audio arrangement before selecting it.

Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx: best LCD choice for bright rooms

The XV275K P5biipruzx is RTINGS’ mid-range 27-inch 4K IPS candidate. Its HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and tested PS5 signal compatibility make it a suitable 4K/120Hz LCD route. The panel gets brighter than the listed OLED alternatives, an advantage in a sunlit room or when you prefer a visibly bright HDR image.

IPS LCD technology does not produce OLED-level native contrast. In a dark room, blacks can appear gray, particularly without effective local dimming. Choose this monitor when sustained brightness and LCD behavior are more valuable to you than perfect black levels.

Dell S2725QS: budget native-4K option

The S2725QS is listed as a budget 4K/120Hz option for PS5 Pro. Its office-oriented design can suit a desk used for both work and gaming, and native 4K keeps text and game detail sharp.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

RTINGS identifies weaker motion handling, no local dimming and a less gaming-focused feature set than the premium choices. It is therefore a value pick for buyers who want 4K resolution and 120Hz capability without paying for OLED, not a substitute for the fastest response or strongest HDR.

KOORUI S2721PM: low-cost high-refresh alternative

The S2721PM is the lower-cost base-PS5 candidate in RTINGS’ list, but it is a 1440p monitor. It supports 1440p at 120Hz or downscaled 4K at 60Hz and supports PS5 VRR. That can be an excellent compromise when smooth 120Hz play matters more than native 4K sharpness.

Do not list it as a 4K/120Hz monitor. Its 4K input is downscaled to a 1440p panel, and its 120Hz mode is associated with 1440p rather than native 4K.

AOC Q27G3XMN: a VRR compatibility warning

RTINGS reports that the Q27G3XMN does not support PS5 VRR. This example shows why a monitor’s family name, advertised gaming features or PC-oriented specification cannot replace checking the actual PS5 signal table. If VRR is important, confirm console support explicitly before purchase.

OLED versus IPS LCD for PS5

Choose OLED when contrast and response come first

  • Individual pixel control gives the deepest blacks in a controlled room.
  • Very fast response keeps camera pans and rapid movement clean at 120Hz.
  • QD-OLED models provide vivid HDR color.
  • Bright rooms can make OLED blacks appear purple, and premium OLED models cost more than basic LCD alternatives.

Choose IPS LCD when brightness and flexibility matter

  • Higher sustained brightness can work better with daylight and reflections.
  • LCD models generally offer a lower-cost path to 4K/120Hz.
  • Native contrast is lower, so dark scenes may look gray without strong local dimming.
  • Motion and HDR quality vary substantially between models; a 4K label alone does not identify a gaming-grade LCD.

Pick the right size and desk distance

A 27-inch 4K monitor is the dominant size among the recommended models. At a close desk distance, it offers high pixel density without requiring a large desk. TechRadar’s general guidance treats up to 32 inches as practical for a close setup, but the correct size depends on viewing distance, eyesight and whether the screen is also used for work.

PS5 connection and setup procedure

  1. Turn off the PS5 and monitor.
  2. Connect the HDMI cable included with the PS5, or a certified Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable, from the console’s HDMI OUT port to the monitor’s documented HDMI IN port.
  3. Power on the monitor, select that HDMI input and enable any monitor setting required for high-bandwidth operation, such as an HDMI 2.1 or enhanced-format mode. The exact label varies by model.
  4. On the PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
  5. Set Resolution to Automatic or 2160p when available, and set 120 Hz Output to Automatic.
  6. Enable VRR in the PS5 video-output settings only after confirming that the monitor supports PS5 VRR at the chosen signal.
  7. Enable HDR on the PS5 when the monitor supports HDR, then run Adjust HDR so the console’s tone mapping matches your room and display.
  8. Open Screen and Video > Video Output Information and verify the negotiated resolution, refresh rate, HDR and VRR status.
  9. Test a game with a documented 120Hz or performance mode. A console-level 120Hz signal does not mean every title renders at 120 frames per second.

Troubleshooting 4K/120Hz, HDR and VRR

The PS5 shows 4K but only 60Hz

  • Move the cable to the monitor’s specified high-bandwidth HDMI input.
  • Replace an older or unverified cable with the included PS5 cable or a rated Ultra High-Speed cable.
  • Update the monitor firmware and restart both devices.
  • Remove switches, receivers and capture hardware; test a direct PS5-to-monitor connection.
  • Check the monitor manual for an HDMI enhanced, 2.1 or high-bandwidth toggle.
  • Confirm that the monitor’s 4K/120Hz claim applies to the exact regional model and HDMI input.

VRR is unavailable

Confirm that the monitor explicitly supports PS5 or HDMI Forum VRR, not only FreeSync or another PC feature. The AOC Q27G3XMN example demonstrates that a monitor can have gaming-oriented specifications while lacking PS5 VRR. On the PS5, return to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, set VRR to Automatic and check the Video Output Information screen.

HDR looks dull, gray or excessively bright

  • Verify that HDR is enabled in both the monitor’s input menu and the PS5.
  • Run the PS5’s Adjust HDR calibration again in the room where you play.
  • Use the monitor’s intended HDR picture mode rather than an overly bright SDR preset.
  • Remember that HDR quality depends on panel contrast, peak brightness and local dimming, not just an HDR logo.

The image is washed out in a dark room

IPS LCD models without local dimming can show gray-looking blacks. Reduce ambient light, disable unnecessary dynamic contrast processing and compare the monitor’s calibrated game mode. If deep black performance is a priority, an OLED model is better suited, provided the room is not so bright that its blacks appear purple.

How to choose by priority

For the best picture in a controlled room

Start with the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM, then consider the Dell Alienware AW2725Q if its price or availability is more favorable. Both use 4K QD-OLED technology; compare HDR behavior, audio connectivity and the exact current regional specification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a bright room

Start with the Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx. Its reported brightness advantage over the listed OLED alternatives can make daylight gaming easier to see, while HDMI 2.1 bandwidth preserves the intended 4K/120Hz path.

For a native-4K budget build

Consider the Dell S2725QS when native 4K and a 120Hz PS5 Pro option matter more than premium motion handling, local dimming or OLED contrast. Treat its office-oriented design as a deliberate trade-off.

For the lowest cost while retaining 120Hz play

The KOORUI S2721PM is the honest compromise: 1440p/120Hz with VRR, or downscaled 4K/60Hz. Select it only after deciding that smoothness at 1440p is preferable to native 4K detail.

What to check on the product page

  • Native panel resolution: 3840 × 2160 for true 4K.
  • Exact HDMI input bandwidth and supported 3840 × 2160 refresh rates.
  • Explicit PS5 4K/120Hz compatibility, not only a 144Hz or 240Hz maximum.
  • PS5 VRR support at the signal you intend to use.
  • HDR support, brightness behavior and whether local dimming is present.
  • Panel type and its effect on contrast, black level and bright-room viewing.
  • Audio outputs, especially if you need a monitor headphone jack.
  • Firmware update method and return policy in case the current firmware has a signal issue.
  • Regional model number, because specifications can differ between markets.

Bottom line

Buy the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM for the most complete 4K/120Hz PS5 experience in the cited 2026 testing. Choose the Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx for a brighter LCD image, the Dell Alienware AW2725Q for another 4K QD-OLED route, or the Dell S2725QS for a more basic native-4K option. Choose the KOORUI S2721PM only when 1440p/120Hz is an acceptable alternative to native 4K. Whatever you buy, verify the HDMI input, cable, firmware, VRR and HDR at the exact signal before assuming the headline refresh rate will work.
