Short answer: the Beatrix demo is free on Steam for Windows, but no official source publishes a total playtime or average run length. It currently opens three Circles of Hell—Lust, Greed, and Violence—without turning that scope into a reliable hour estimate. Saving is supported: Steam lists Save Anytime, and a developer update added mid-run save-and-continue. The demo also supports full gamepads, mouse-only and touch-only play, and untimed input. Steam Deck compatibility is currently listed as Unknown, not Verified or Playable. A recent update improved interface text size and fixed controller-related issues, but it did not create a formal Valve compatibility rating.
How long is the Beatrix demo?
No official playtime estimate is published for the Beatrix demo. The official Steam listing, developer updates, patch notes, and demo metadata do not state a total number of hours, an average run duration, or a first-playthrough completion time. It would be misleading to calculate one from the game’s genre or from the number of areas available.
SteamDB records the demo as opening three Circles: Lust, Greed, and Violence. That tells you the available scope, not how long a run will take. A card-battler run can vary with route choices, battles, elite encounters, deck decisions, and how often a player pauses to study the board. The three-Circle figure therefore should be read as a content boundary rather than a clock.

You can play the free demo and stop safely during a run because the game supports mid-run saving, but neither the developer nor the store promises a fixed session length.

What is Beatrix?
Beatrix is a digital roguelite strategy and card battler from Tambù Digital, set in an interpretation of Dante’s Hell. Its central idea combines deckbuilding with construction and control of a battle board.
In a fight, you place tarot cards on a grid. Surrounding an enemy card lets you conquer it, so the position of a card can matter as much as its printed effect. Battlefield modifiers called Canons change how spaces or interactions work. Minor Arcana are played onto the board, while Major Arcana function as spells. A Card Clash can reverse a losing card when a row, column, or diagonal becomes trapped, creating another positional calculation before you commit a move.
Between battles, a run is shaped by choices of cards, Canons, relics, vendors, and routes through the Circles. The store description refers to ordinary battles, elites, guardians, and a final descent toward Lucifer. Tambù Digital describes the design as requiring several moves of planning, because a strong deck can still fail if its cards are placed badly or if a battlefield effect is misunderstood.
“Play tarot cards onto a board in the Circles of Hell. Surround enemy cards to conquer them.”
The full game’s advertised scale is larger than the demo slice. The publisher’s Steam material lists nine Circles of Hell, nine Geniuses, 22 Major Arcana spells, more than 200 Canons, and 70 relics. Those figures describe the planned game and its overall content claims; they are not a promise that every item appears in the current demo.
Does Beatrix have saves, and can you save mid-run?
Yes. Steam lists Save Anytime, and the developer’s May 28, 2026 update added Mid-Run Save & Continue. You can leave a run partway through and return later instead of completing the entire sequence in one sitting.

The save feature is especially useful for a board game in which a single encounter may require careful planning. Treat the save as a way to suspend your current run, not as evidence that every action can be rewound indefinitely. The documented feature says you can leave and continue; it does not describe an unlimited undo system or a separate save slot for every decision.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The same settings overhaul added a delete-save option and made settings persist between sessions. If you intentionally remove the save, expect the stored run to be discarded; persistent options are a separate part of the update. Because menu wording can change with later builds, use the save and delete controls shown in the version installed on your system rather than relying on an older screenshot.
What to expect when you resume
- Save during a run when you need to stop, then use the game’s continue flow when you return.
- Resume support is documented for a run left halfway through; it is not advertised as a cloud-sync guarantee between different computers.
- Keep the game updated if the save controls do not appear, since mid-run continuation arrived through a 2026 patch rather than the earliest demo build.
What controls does the Beatrix demo support?
The demo is designed for several input styles rather than one required control scheme. It has full controller support, mouse-only play, and touch-only play. The developer says pad navigation works across every screen, with prompts for Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch controllers.
You can also play without timed input. That matters because the board’s positional decisions do not require you to rush a move simply to satisfy a countdown. Custom volume controls are included as well, allowing audio levels to be adjusted independently instead of relying only on the operating system’s master volume.
Controller support
“Full controller support” in the developer’s notes means the interface is navigable with a pad, not merely that a controller can move a character during battles. Menus and other screens are included, and the game can display button prompts appropriate to Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch-style controllers. The available evidence does not establish a universal button-by-button layout, so expect prompts in the current build to be the authoritative guide.
Mouse and touch input
Mouse-only and touch-only modes give you alternatives if you prefer direct selection of cards and board spaces. Touch support can also be relevant on a compatible Windows touchscreen, but the existence of a touch mode is not a guarantee that every Steam Deck interaction has been formally certified by Valve.

Accessibility implications
No-timed-input play, multiple input methods, and custom volume controls reduce different kinds of friction: reaction pressure, hardware preference, and audio balance. The demo’s Steam listing also records ten interface languages. That language count is a store-listed feature, while exact translation coverage for every future update can change.
Does Beatrix work on Steam Deck?
Steam currently lists Beatrix’s Steam Deck Compatibility as Unknown. It is not marked Verified or Playable, and the label should not be read as a performance recommendation. Valve uses Unknown when a game has not yet been tested for Deck compatibility through its rating process.
There are encouraging signals for Deck-oriented play. The demo has controller support throughout the interface and supports touch input. Version 0.07.06, dated October 23, 2026, raised the minimum interface text size to improve readability on Steam Deck. That update also addressed several interface and controller-related bugs, including a sacrifice interaction that could leave a card stuck when controller input was used.

There is no established evidence here that the demo runs flawlessly under Proton, that every graphics setting behaves correctly, or that Valve has approved it as Verified. If you install it on a Deck, use the current Steam compatibility label as the formal status and treat the text-size and controller fixes as practical improvements rather than a guarantee.
How to interpret the four Deck labels
- Verified: Valve has determined that the game meets its tested Deck criteria.
- Playable: the game works with some adjustments, such as an on-screen keyboard or manual settings changes.
- Unsupported: Valve has identified a compatibility problem that prevents the expected experience.
- Unknown: Valve has not assigned a tested compatibility result. Beatrix is in this category at the time covered here.
Check the store page again before installing after a major patch. Compatibility data and demo builds can change independently, so an Unknown label today is not a permanent verdict.
Is the Beatrix demo still available, and what version is current?
The demo is available on Steam as a free Windows application. SteamDB records its release date as March 18, 2026. Tambù Digital also promoted an updated demo during Steam Next Fest, which ran from October 19 through October 26, 2026.

The latest developer update identified here is version 0.07.06, published October 23, 2026. That version context matters when you read older comments: earlier builds may predate mid-run saving, the larger minimum text size, or controller fixes.
The complete game is planned for Q1 2027 and is not yet available on Steam. A demo download therefore gives you the currently released preview, not access to the finished campaign or all advertised systems.
What can you actually play in the demo?
The known demo scope is three Circles—Lust, Greed, and Violence. Within that slice, the game’s loop is built around battles and route decisions rather than a linear sequence of identical encounters. You choose cards and other run resources, confront enemies on the grid, and decide how to position your tools before the board’s effects resolve.
The full store description references elites and guardians as higher-pressure encounters and describes a route toward Lucifer. It also presents Canons, relics, vendors, and Major and Minor Arcana as parts of the broader progression system. Because the demo is a subset of the planned game, do not assume that the nine-Circle, nine-Genius, 22-spell, 200-plus-Canon, and 70-relic figures are all unlocked in the preview.
The important distinction is between breadth and duration. Three Circles tell you where the demo stops; they do not tell you whether your first attempt will take one evening or several shorter sessions. Save Anytime and mid-run continuation let you decide that schedule without abandoning an unfinished run.

What should you do if controls or readability seem wrong?
First, confirm that the game has updated to the current build shown by Steam. The October 23, 2026 update changed minimum interface text size and fixed controller-related behavior, so an older installation may not reflect those changes.

Next, check the input mode you are using. If a pad is not behaving as expected, verify that the controller is recognized before launching and look for the prompt set that matches its platform. Mouse-only and touch-only modes provide alternatives for navigation, but switching input methods does not change the formal Steam Deck rating.
If the store page still shows Unknown for Deck compatibility, that is expected under the documented status. It means Valve has not completed its rating process, not that the game has been declared Unsupported. Report reproducible issues through the developer’s current support channel, including the build number and the input device involved, rather than assuming a compatibility label explains every problem.
What is the practical verdict on the Beatrix demo?
Beatrix is worth trying if you want a board-focused roguelite card battler and prefer flexible sessions. The demo is free, supports saving in the middle of a run, and accommodates gamepads, mouse, touch, and untimed input. Its three-Circle scope gives you a defined preview of the concept without providing an official hour count.
Steam Deck owners should set expectations carefully. The latest patch makes text and controller behavior more suitable for handheld play, but the store’s formal status remains Unknown. Download the demo for its positional card mechanics and save flexibility, not on the assumption that Valve has certified it or that the preview represents the full Q1 2027 release.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Beatrix demo free to download?
Yes. The current Steam listing records it as a free Windows demo, so the preview itself does not require buying the unreleased full game. The planned commercial release is separate and is scheduled for Q1 2027 rather than being available through the demo today.
Does Beatrix require timed reactions during battles?
No. The documented demo options include play without timed input, so decisions can be made without a countdown forcing immediate responses. That setting is distinct from the game’s positional challenge: you still need to plan card placement and battlefield effects.
Will my Beatrix settings remain after I close the game?
The developer’s settings overhaul states that options persist between sessions. That persistence is separate from deleting a run save, so changing or removing a saved run should not be treated as a reset of every preference.
