The ASUS ZenWiFi ET9 is a tri-band Wi-Fi 6E mesh system with a 2.5G/1G WAN port, three LAN ports, and a 6 GHz radio. Its appeal is access to 6 GHz for compatible devices and the flexibility of ASUS AiMesh; its main measured caveat is less consistent latency through a satellite. ASUS claims coverage up to 7,800 square feet, but that figure is not independently verified by the cited testing.
What is the ASUS ZenWiFi ET9?
The ET9 is an AXE7800 tri-band Wi-Fi 6E mesh router system. ASUS lists a 2.4 GHz 2×2 radio, a 5 GHz 2×2 radio, and a 6 GHz 4×4 radio. AXE7800 is the system’s advertised class, not a guarantee that one client device will achieve the combined headline rate; actual connection speeds depend on the client, conditions, and network use. ASUS’s US product listing identifies its specifications.
The 6 GHz band is the key distinction from Wi-Fi 6 systems: only devices that support 6 GHz can connect to it. The ET9 is Wi-Fi 6E, not Wi-Fi 7, so it is not a fit if Wi-Fi 7 is a requirement.
How does the ET9 perform as a mesh system?
RTINGS tested a two-pack in dual-mesh mode. Its review reports adequate wireless latency for browsing, video calls, and casual gaming, but says latency becomes noticeably less consistent when traffic goes through a satellite node. It observed larger and more frequent spikes than on most mesh systems it tested; repeated testing and resets produced similar results. That makes satellite performance worth weighing if your household depends on consistently responsive connections across multiple rooms.

RTINGS published its review on November 15, 2024, and lists a test-bench update dated September 11, 2026. The findings describe that test setup; they do not establish the same outcome for every home, client device, or placement. Read RTINGS’s ET9 review and test details.
How much area does the ET9 cover?
ASUS’s US listing states “Coverage up to 7,800 sq. ft.” This is the manufacturer’s maximum coverage claim, not a guaranteed result for a particular home. Walls, floor plan, interference, node placement, and the number of units can affect usable coverage.

RTINGS removed its Wi-Fi coverage tests while evaluating ways to present results more helpfully. Its cited review therefore does not provide independent coverage measurements that confirm a specific square-foot range. Check the number of nodes included in the listing you are considering: availability and pack configuration can vary by retailer.

The ET9’s rear panel, as shown in ASUS’s three-pack quick-start guide, includes a 2.5G/1G WAN port, three LAN ports, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, plus its power input and switch. The WAN port’s 2.5G capability is useful when the internet connection or other network equipment supports more than 1 Gbps; it does not make a slower modem or service faster. How do you set up an ET9 mesh?
ASUS’s quick-start guide depicts one ET9 as the AiMesh router and other ET9 units as nodes. It instructs users to connect the modem to the WAN port and a PC to a LAN port for setup.
- Place the primary ET9 near the modem and connect it to power.
- Connect the modem to the ET9’s port labeled “2.5G / 1G WAN port” with a network cable. ASUS’s guide says, “Connect your optical modem to this port with a network cable.”
- Connect a PC to one of the LAN ports if you are following the guide’s wired setup illustration.
- Set up the primary unit as the AiMesh router, then add compatible AiMesh equipment as nodes according to ASUS’s setup instructions.
- Place each node where it can maintain a usable connection to the mesh, rather than assuming the manufacturer’s maximum coverage figure will apply to your layout.
RTINGS says the ET9 is compatible with ASUS AiMesh-enabled access points. Compatibility does not by itself establish identical performance across different models, so verify support for the specific device you plan to add. The guide cited here is for a three-pack; instructions and included hardware may differ by pack or market.

ET9 vs. XT9: what is the meaningful difference?
The substantiated generation difference is that the ET9 supports Wi-Fi 6E and 6 GHz, while the ZenWiFi XT9 is Wi-Fi 6. That makes the ET9 relevant if you have 6 GHz-capable clients and want access to that band. It does not prove that the ET9 is better overall: the right choice also depends on your devices, mesh layout, wired-port needs, and current price for the same number of nodes. RTINGS’s ET9 and XT9 comparison describes the generation distinction.

Is the ASUS ZenWiFi ET9 worth considering?
Consider it if you want a Wi-Fi 6E mesh system, can make use of 6 GHz, and value AiMesh compatibility or a 2.5G WAN connection. Be more cautious if your priority is consistently low latency through satellite nodes: RTINGS’s two-pack testing found that performance less consistent in that setup. Before buying, confirm the current price and whether the listing is for one, two, or three units. ASUS’s US store listing displayed $99.99 and a crossed-out $349.99 reference price on October 7, 2026; those were live retail values, not stable product pricing. The figures may change and should not be treated as a price for every pack configuration. Check ASUS’s current US listing.
