The ASUS ROG Phone 6 pairs a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor with a 165 Hz AMOLED display, gaming-focused AirTrigger controls and a 6,000 mAh battery. Independent 2022 reviews found strong performance, but the 165 Hz screen does not make every game run at 165 frames per second, and demanding sessions can warm the phone. The benchmark figures below are for the higher-spec ROG Phone 6 Pro, not the standard Phone 6.
What the ROG Phone 6 is built to do
ASUS announced the ROG Phone 6 series on July 5, 2022. The standard Phone 6 is a gaming-oriented Android handset built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which ASUS lists at up to 3.2 GHz. Its hardware and software emphasize high-refresh gaming, touch controls and adjustable performance rather than compact size or camera-first use. ASUS’s product specifications describe the design and features; they are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements.
- Display: 6.78-inch AMOLED panel, up to 165 Hz refresh and 720 Hz touch sampling, according to ASUS. TechRadar specifies a 2448 × 1080 resolution.
- Cooling: ASUS calls its system GameCool 6 and describes three cooling approaches, including boron nitride thermal compound. That describes the design, not a guarantee of a particular temperature under every game or environment.
- Controls and software: AirTrigger 6 adds gaming-oriented touch controls. Armoury Crate is where users can adjust gaming hardware settings, including touch sensitivity and performance modes, as Gadgets 360 describes.
- Audio: ASUS lists dual front-facing stereo speakers. Gadgets 360 praised the sound and noted a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
- Memory and storage: ASUS’s family page lists configurations up to 18 GB LPDDR5 and 512 GB UFS 3.1. HotHardware distinguishes the standard Phone 6, with up to 16 GB RAM, from the Pro, with up to 18 GB; both could be configured with up to 512 GB storage. Check the exact model and regional SKU rather than assuming the family maximum applies to every Phone 6.
The ROG Phone 6 Pro is a distinct model, and the best-known comparative benchmark results in the hands-on coverage came from a Pro test unit. They should not be read as standard Phone 6 scores or as a current comparison against newer phones.
How fast is it in games?
The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and high-refresh panel give the Phone 6 the ingredients for responsive gaming, but the panel’s 165 Hz maximum is not a promise that a game will render at 165 fps. Game support and performance vary by title and settings.

In its 2022 review, Gadgets 360 said popular games it tried typically ran around 120 fps and that it rarely encountered titles above 144 fps. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a compatibility list or a universal ceiling. The outlet also reported smooth gameplay in its testing.
HotHardware’s 2022 hands-on tested a ROG Phone 6 Pro. In the specific benchmarks it ran, the Pro scored nearly 22% above the ROG Phone 5 in 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme, 55.3% higher in GFXBench T-Rex and 49% faster in GFXBench Manhattan. These are benchmark comparisons between those tested devices, not frame-rate gains in every game. Does it overheat during long sessions?
Reviewers reported warmth under load, with the experience depending on workload and session length. TechRadar said its unit reached about 40°C after 20 minutes of gaming and about 42°C after a 13 GB 5G download. After roughly half an hour of Genshin Impact at maximum graphics settings, the phone felt noticeably warm where the reviewer held it. These are TechRadar’s readings and observations under its own test conditions, not a prediction for every room, game or user. TechRadar’s review also found the processor repositioning and thermal design helpful during testing.
Gadgets 360 likewise found the phone warmed during demanding use and described heat spreading across the back in its tests. A useful comparison between gaming phones requires the same game, graphics preset, session duration, room conditions and cooling-accessory setup; benchmark results from different tests cannot establish which phone will feel cooler in your use.

What are the battery and charging trade-offs?
ASUS specifies a 6,000 mAh battery. In Gadgets 360’s India-market review, the unit ran for 17 hours and 41 minutes in that outlet’s HD video-loop test with the display set to 165 Hz. That controlled playback result is not an estimate of gaming time, which varies with title, brightness, network use and settings.
Gadgets 360 reported that its India-market unit supported 65 W charging but shipped with a 30 W adapter. Do not assume that charger was included in every regional package: adapter and bundle details need to be checked for the particular market and listing.

What compromises matter outside gaming?
The 6.78-inch handset is large, a point HotHardware noted in its hands-on. The size may suit players who value a broad screen, but it is a real portability trade-off for one-handed use or smaller pockets.
Camera performance is another compromise to weigh separately from gaming speed. TechRadar notes that the camera lenses lack optical image stabilization, a limitation relevant to handheld photos and video. The available review evidence does not establish that the ROG Phone 6 is a camera-first choice.

Should you consider the AeroActive Cooler 6?
The AeroActive Cooler 6 is part of ASUS’s gaming-phone accessory ecosystem, and ASUS’s July 5, 2022 launch announcement introduced it alongside the ROG Phone 6 family. It is an optional accessory, not a reason to assume the phone stays cool without one or a substitute for checking the phone’s performance in the games you play. How to judge the Phone 6 against another gaming phone
- Sustained performance: Compare the same game, graphics preset and session length, under similar room conditions and with the same cooling-accessory setup.
- Display versus game support: Treat 165 Hz as the panel’s maximum capability; check whether the particular games you play support higher frame rates.
- Controls and add-ons: Decide whether AirTrigger 6 and Armoury Crate adjustments matter to your play style, and verify accessory fit for the precise model.
- Everyday use: Weigh the large body and camera stabilization limitation against your portability and photography needs.
- Battery and bundle: Separate rated capacity from gaming endurance and confirm charging support and included adapter for the region and SKU being sold.
