ASUS announced its first ROG NUC on July 6, 2024: a 2.5-liter gaming desktop offered as the ROG NUC 970 and ROG NUC 760. The compact systems paired Intel Core Ultra processors with NVIDIA RTX 40-series laptop GPUs, while launch-era price reports put them in premium territory. Those prices were tied to specific configurations and markets, not universal or current quotes.
What ASUS announced
The first ROG NUC family launched in July 2024 as two configurations. ASUS paired the higher-tier 970 with a Core Ultra 9 185H and GeForce RTX 4070, and the 760 with a Core Ultra 7 155H and GeForce RTX 4060. ASUS described the devices as compact gaming PCs; these are the original models, distinct from later ROG NUC generations. ASUS’s July 6, 2024 announcement and specifications provide the launch details.
How much did the ASUS ROG NUC cost?
There was no single global launch price established by ASUS’s cited launch specifications. Launch-period reporting gave different figures for different markets and configurations:
| Reported price | Market and configuration | Source and timing |
|---|---|---|
| €2,499 | One European retailer’s configuration with Core Ultra 9 185H, RTX 4070, 32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage | Notebookcheck, 2024 launch period |
| $1,629 and $2,199 | Two U.S. configuration prices reported by Tom’s Hardware; the cited report lists the prices but does not establish a universal price for every market | Tom’s Hardware, 2024 launch period |
These are historical reported prices, not present-day offers or official worldwide MSRP figures. Notebookcheck’s European retailer report and Tom’s Hardware’s U.S. price report refer to different regional listings and configurations, so they should not be compared as if they describe identical systems.

How small is the first ROG NUC?
ASUS specified a 2.5-liter chassis measuring 180 × 270 × 50 mm with the vertical mount stand included, and a weight of 2.6 kg. The small footprint is useful where a conventional tower would be awkward, but the cited measurements describe the system with its stand rather than an unmounted case.
What can you upgrade?
ASUS said the chassis was designed for quick access to make upgrades and cleaning easier. The published specifications support up to 64 GB of DDR5-5600 SODIMM memory and provide three M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 SSD slots. Maximum capacity and slot count are useful indicators of expandability, but confirm the installed configuration and component compatibility before buying replacement or additional parts.

What the launch details do—and do not—tell you
The original ROG NUC’s specifications establish its processor and GPU pairings, compact dimensions, listed expansion options and connections. They do not by themselves establish real-world gaming performance, noise, thermal behavior or performance per dollar. Those questions require testing of specific configurations, so the launch specifications and price reports are not enough to make a quantitative gaming-performance or value verdict.
Current availability and pricing for the original 970 and 760 are not established here. ASUS’s U.S. ROG NUC category page surfaces later ROG NUC listings as well; a listing for a later model should not be mistaken for stock or pricing of the first-generation system.
