Arm Neural Super Sampling (NSS) is a neural upscaling technology for mobile graphics: a game renders fewer pixels, then a trained model reconstructs a higher-resolution image. It is similar in broad purpose to NVIDIA DLSS, but it is not DLSS, and Arm has not identified a retail phone that supports NSS. Developers can access Arm’s software and samples now; Arm says devices with the relevant technology are expected in late 2026.
What is Arm Neural Super Sampling?
NSS is Arm’s neural image-upscaling technology. Rather than rendering every pixel at the final output resolution, a game can render at a lower resolution and use a trained model to reconstruct the image. The intended trade-off is lower GPU workload while maintaining image quality.
DLSS is a useful analogy because both involve neural upscaling, but the comparison is limited to that broad function. Arm NSS is a separate technology, and the available information does not establish equivalent hardware requirements, image quality, performance, or game support.
NSS is not frame generation
Arm has other neural graphics technologies with different jobs:

- NSS: reconstructs a higher-resolution image from fewer rendered pixels.
- NFRU (Neural Frame Rate Upscaling): generates intermediate frames to raise perceived frame rate. Arm says NFRU can provide up to 2x frame rates; that figure is not an NSS claim.
- NSSD (Neural Super Sampling and Denoising): combines upscaling with denoising for graphics workflows involving ray tracing.
Arm says NSS uses temporal feedback and that developers can fine-tune its network for game-specific content. Those capabilities do not establish that every game will produce the same visual results.
Can developers use NSS now?
Yes. Arm’s Neural Graphics Development Kit provides developer resources, including an NSS plugin, sample project, model materials, fine-tuning guidance, and tools for inspecting results. Its implementation paths cover Unreal Engine, Vulkan machine-learning extensions, and model preparation and tuning.
Arm also describes an SDK path for custom or in-house engines using Vulkan, collaboration with Unity China on Tuanjie Engine, and work with Unreal and other engine developers. These are integration and ecosystem efforts; they do not confirm that a particular retail game will ship with NSS.

A useful developer workflow is to start with Arm’s sample, integrate it into representative game content, and compare image quality, frame rate, and GPU workload against the team’s existing rendering path. NSS results can depend on the content and implementation.
Android support has advanced, but is not universal
Arm’s earlier SDK announcement described Linux and Windows operation with Vulkan emulation and said independent Android support was on the roadmap. Later public SDK release notes list Android AArch64 support for NSS and NFRU on supported Arm GPU platforms. That is a change in software support, not confirmation that NSS runs on every Android phone, Arm GPU, or game engine.
Which phones support Arm NSS?
Arm’s inspected public material does not name a retail phone or handheld with NSS-compatible hardware, a silicon model, a confirmed release date, or a complete compatibility list. Arm says Neural Accelerators embedded in GPU shader cores are expected in Arm-based platforms later in 2026, and its developer-community guidance says devices with the technology are expected to ship in late 2026.

That is a platform expectation, not a current buying recommendation. Developer access to a plugin, model, or SDK does not mean a consumer device has the hardware or software integration needed to run NSS.
Arm and Sumo Digital’s Neural Dawn is described by Arm as a production-quality Unreal Engine mobile game built to showcase neural technologies alongside MegaLights and mobile ray tracing. It is a demonstration project, not evidence of broad retail game adoption.

What performance has Arm claimed?
Arm reports that NSS can upscale from 540p to 1080p at a cost of 4 milliseconds per frame, with near-native image quality. Arm also reports up to 50% lower GPU workload for its neural graphics work, including NSS, compared with rendering a full frame using traditional methods. These are Arm’s announcement and demo claims, not independent test results or guarantees for every game, device, resolution, or thermal condition.

Arm’s technical material also cites an early simulation estimate in which NSS at 1.5× scaling in balanced mode used approximately 75% of Arm ASR’s runtime. That is a simulation estimate, not a shipping-device benchmark. It should not be treated as a direct consumer comparison.
Arm’s material does not provide a named independent benchmark dataset or neutral third-party validation for the headline 4 ms and 50% figures. A meaningful comparison with DLSS, FSR2, or Arm ASR would need the same game content, output settings, and controlled hardware, with image quality, temporal stability, total frame cost, and sustained thermals measured. The available figures do not establish a universal winner.

At the concept level, both are neural approaches to reconstructing a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render. Beyond that shared idea, a fair comparison needs details not established by the available Arm information: supported retail devices, game integrations, implementation requirements, independent image-quality tests, latency, and sustained performance.

So “DLSS-style” is an understandable shorthand for the category of technology, not a claim that Arm NSS is NVIDIA DLSS or offers the same results and compatibility. NSS should be judged on supported hardware and games once those are identified and independently tested.
What remains unknown for consumers?
- Which specific phones or handhelds will include Arm Neural Accelerators.
- Which commercial games will integrate NSS.
- How NSS performs on retail hardware in independent, controlled tests.
- Whether performance and image quality hold up across different games and sustained thermal conditions.
Arm has named development-kit support from studios and engine partners, including Enduring Games, Epic Games, NetEase Games, Sumo Digital, Tencent Games, and Traverse Research. Its later ecosystem update describes additional work with Infold Games and Sumo Digital and collaboration with Unity China. These relationships show development activity, not confirmed game releases or device compatibility.
