For the standard adidas Samba OG, the short answer is: it can work for casual, shorter outings, but it is not the best default for walking all day. There is no robust named study or population-level statistic establishing how comfortable Sambas are for all-day walking. In particular, the available evidence does not establish a step-count threshold or show that Sambas cause injuries. Do not assume that sizing up is automatically the solution to a narrow-feeling shoe. Woman & Home’s half-size suggestion is an editorial fit recommendation, while adidas UK advises usual sizing. Trying the usual size and, if needed, comparing it with a half size up can show whether extra room helps without making the shoe feel insecure. If neither size feels comfortable in the forefoot, another style may be a better match than forcing the fit.
One detail to check during a try-on is the tongue. Woman & Home tester Antonia Kraskowski reported that the longer tongues and pointed corners on both the Samba and Gazelle pressed into her ankle. That is her individual observation, not evidence that every wearer will experience the same pressure. If the tongue rubs or presses when you walk, do not assume it will become comfortable over a full day.

The Gazelle is not simply a “more comfortable Samba” for everyone: in the comparison it has a medium sole and regular fit, but a slim toe shape. It may be worth considering if you want something between the two styles in sole thickness, but toe room and tongue feel still need to work for you. The Handball Spezial is the clearest comparison to try if your priorities are a wider upper, a deeper footbed and a thicker sole.
