AppLovin is much larger and more profitable; SoundHound AI posted the higher growth rate in the latest complete annual results covered here. AppLovin reported $5.481 billion in FY2025 revenue and $3.334 billion in net income. SoundHound reported $84.693 million in FY2024 revenue, up 85%, but also recorded a $350.681 million GAAP net loss. These are different fiscal years, and AppLovin’s reported 70% FY2025 growth needs a reporting-basis caveat: its FY2025 release compares against $3.224 billion for FY2024, while its FY2024 release reported $4.709 billion in total FY2024 revenue.

Is AppLovin growing faster than SoundHound AI?

Not by the headline percentages in the latest complete annual results covered here: SoundHound AI’s FY2024 revenue grew 85%, while AppLovin’s FY2025 revenue grew 70% on the comparison basis used in its FY2025 release. But those rates refer to different fiscal years, and AppLovin’s FY2025 comparison base differs from the full FY2024 revenue reported a year earlier. The percentages alone do not establish which company is growing faster on a directly comparable basis.

For a more balanced answer, consider the size of each business, what drove its growth, and whether that growth came with profits. AppLovin reported $5.481 billion in FY2025 revenue and $3.334 billion in net income. SoundHound reported $84.693 million in FY2024 revenue and a $350.681 million GAAP net loss. SoundHound’s higher percentage reflects growth from a much smaller base; AppLovin’s figures show far greater scale and reported profitability.

How do AppLovin and SoundHound AI’s reported revenues compare?

The latest complete annual revenue figures available in the cited releases are substantially different in scale, but they cover different years. AppLovin’s FY2025 revenue was $5.481 billion; SoundHound’s FY2024 revenue was $84.693 million. The table keeps the fiscal periods separate rather than presenting the figures as same-year results.

Company and period Reported revenue Reported growth Relevant qualification
AppLovin, FY2025 $5.481 billion 70% year over year The FY2025 release uses $3.224 billion as the FY2024 comparison figure. [c1]
AppLovin, FY2024 $4.709 billion 43% year over year The FY2024 release compares with $3.283 billion in FY2023. [c2]
SoundHound AI, FY2024 $84.693 million 85% year over year The FY2024 release compares with $45.873 million in FY2023. [c3]

A crucial wrinkle is that AppLovin’s FY2025 release lists $3.224 billion as FY2024 revenue in its comparison, while its FY2024 release reports $4.709 billion in total FY2024 revenue. The earlier release identifies $3.224 billion as FY2024 advertising revenue, not total revenue. Those figures are not interchangeable. The 70% rate belongs to the comparison presented in the FY2025 release; it should not be restated as growth against the $4.709 billion total from the FY2024 release. The cited figures alone do not explain the change in comparison basis, so a reader should avoid inferring a same-basis growth rate from them.

Even with that qualification, the scale difference is clear: AppLovin’s FY2025 revenue was far higher than SoundHound’s FY2024 revenue. It does not follow that AppLovin’s growth percentage was higher, or that the two percentages measure the same fiscal period or reporting basis.

What does the growth look like in absolute dollars?

Percentages can obscure the amount of new business a company actually added. SoundHound increased reported revenue from $45.873 million in FY2023 to $84.693 million in FY2024, an increase of $38.820 million. That is a large addition relative to its starting point and is consistent with the 85% annual growth rate.

Using the comparison presented in AppLovin’s FY2025 release, revenue rose from $3.224 billion to $5.481 billion, an increase of approximately $2.257 billion. That calculation is tied to the release’s stated comparison figure and should not be treated as a reconstruction of total-revenue growth from the separate FY2024 filing. AppLovin’s FY2024 release, on its own stated basis, showed revenue rising from $3.283 billion in FY2023 to $4.709 billion in FY2024, an increase of about $1.426 billion.

The dollar comparison illustrates why both scale and rate matter. SoundHound’s 85% rate was higher, while AppLovin added vastly more revenue in dollars in the periods reported. Neither measure alone captures margins, recurring revenue, customer retention or the cost of acquiring that revenue.

What drove AppLovin’s revenue growth?

Advertising was the clear reported growth engine in AppLovin’s FY2024 revenue breakdown. Advertising revenue reached $3.224 billion, up 75%; apps revenue was $1.485 billion, up 3%. The contrast shows why total revenue growth can conceal very different performance among a company’s business lines.

AppLovin FY2024 business line Revenue Year-over-year growth
Advertising $3.224 billion 75%
Apps $1.485 billion 3%

The FY2024 figures show that advertising grew much faster than apps. They do not, by themselves, establish whether that pace would continue, how concentrated advertising revenue was among customers, or how much of the later FY2025 increase came from each activity. The FY2025 release’s aggregate figures cannot answer those questions here.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It is also important not to conflate AppLovin’s $3.224 billion FY2024 advertising revenue with its $4.709 billion FY2024 total revenue. They are different measures: advertising is one business line, while total revenue includes the apps line as well.

For investors, this mix creates two separate questions. First, can AppLovin continue improving advertising monetization and reach more advertisers? Second, can the slower apps business stabilize or reaccelerate? The reported figures support the conclusion that advertising drove the recent expansion, but they do not provide enough detail to forecast the next year’s segment growth or to determine the durability of any individual customer relationship.

What drove SoundHound AI’s growth?

SoundHound’s FY2024 results show rapid revenue growth from a relatively small base, alongside expansion across multiple customer industries. The company describes voice and conversational AI offerings for sectors including restaurants, healthcare, automotive, retail, energy, government, telecom, financial services, insurance, and travel and hospitality.

Its named offerings include Smart Answering, Smart Ordering, Dynamic Drive-Thru, Amelia AI Agents, and SoundHound Chat AI. These products indicate the range of applications the company is pursuing, but the release figures cited here do not break out revenue by product, industry, or customer. They therefore do not show which offering or sector contributed most to the 85% annual increase, nor whether revenue was evenly distributed across those areas.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Quarterly results provide another view of the pace: SoundHound reported $34.543 million in Q4 2024 revenue, up 101% year over year. That is a single quarter’s growth rate, not the FY2024 annual rate. A quarter can accelerate or decelerate relative to a full year, so the 101% figure should not be substituted for the annual 85% when comparing complete fiscal years.

The broad industry list may indicate a diversified addressable market, but it is not proof of diversified revenue. A company can serve many verticals while still receiving a large share of sales from a few customers. The figures cited here do not disclose customer concentration, contract duration, renewal rates, backlog or the split between subscription, usage and other revenue types. Those are important follow-up measures when assessing whether rapid growth can persist.

Does the higher growth rate mean SoundHound is the stronger business?

No. A higher percentage growth rate is one measure of momentum, not a complete measure of business strength. SoundHound’s 85% FY2024 increase is notable, but it started from $45.873 million in FY2023 revenue. AppLovin’s much larger reported revenue base makes its absolute scale and profit results important parts of the comparison.

Scale matters because percentages describe change relative to a starting amount. Adding $38.820 million to SoundHound’s FY2023 revenue produced its FY2024 total of $84.693 million. For AppLovin, the reported change from the FY2024 comparison figure of $3.224 billion to FY2025 revenue of $5.481 billion was far larger in dollar terms; however, that calculation follows the FY2025 release’s comparison basis and is not directly comparable to SoundHound’s annual increase.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Growth quality matters too. SoundHound’s revenue gains came with negative adjusted EBITDA and a substantial GAAP net loss in FY2024. AppLovin reported strong profits in FY2025. That contrast favors AppLovin on the profitability figures available here, but it does not prove that either company’s revenue trajectory will persist.

Does AppLovin’s growth translate into profits?

In FY2025, AppLovin reported $3.334 billion in net income and $4.512 billion in adjusted EBITDA, which was up 87% year over year. These figures indicate that its reported growth coincided with substantial profitability in that fiscal year. Net income is a GAAP measure; adjusted EBITDA is a non-GAAP measure, so they should be kept distinct rather than treated as two versions of the same profit figure.

SoundHound’s FY2024 adjusted EBITDA was negative $61.915 million, compared with negative $35.896 million in FY2023. Its GAAP net loss was negative $350.681 million. The GAAP loss was affected by a large non-cash fair-value adjustment to contingent acquisition liabilities, according to the company’s release. That accounting effect is relevant context, but it does not turn the reported net loss into a profit or erase the negative adjusted EBITDA.

These results support a specific conclusion: AppLovin was profitable on both reported net income and adjusted EBITDA in FY2025, while SoundHound remained loss-making on the stated FY2024 measures. They do not provide a direct comparison of cash flow, capital needs, or profitability in the same fiscal year. Adjusted EBITDA also is not a substitute for operating cash flow.

How should SoundHound’s FY2025 outlook be read?

In February 2025, SoundHound forecast FY2025 revenue of $157 million to $177 million. This was management guidance, not realized FY2025 revenue. It belongs in a forward-looking context and should not be put beside AppLovin’s actual FY2025 revenue as if both were completed results.

If achieved, the low end of that range would be about 85.5% above SoundHound’s FY2024 revenue of $84.693 million, while the high end would be roughly 109% higher. Those are implied increases calculated from the guidance range, not reported outcomes. The range would represent another year of very rapid expansion, but the guidance alone does not establish the eventual result, whether it would be achieved evenly across quarters, or how profitable the revenue would be.

Because no actual FY2025 SoundHound result is included here, the clean comparison remains AppLovin FY2025 actuals against SoundHound FY2024 actuals, with the fiscal-year mismatch made explicit. Readers should update the comparison when SoundHound reports a completed FY2025 period rather than replacing the actual with the forecast.

Why fiscal-period matching matters

A fair growth comparison normally uses the same fiscal year, identical definitions of revenue, and the same period length. This comparison meets none of those conditions perfectly: AppLovin’s latest complete result is FY2025, SoundHound’s is FY2024, and AppLovin’s FY2025 release uses a comparison figure that differs from the total FY2024 revenue shown in an earlier release.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That does not make the figures unusable. It means each number needs a label. AppLovin’s 70% rate should be quoted as reported in the FY2025 release, with its $3.224 billion comparison base. SoundHound’s 85% rate should be tied to FY2024 revenue of $84.693 million versus $45.873 million in FY2023. Combining them into a single same-year league table would imply a precision the releases do not support.

The same rule applies to quarterly data and guidance. SoundHound’s 101% Q4 2024 growth is not an annual figure, and its $157 million-$177 million FY2025 outlook is not an actual result. Keeping those categories separate prevents an apparently simple comparison from becoming misleading.

What is the fairest way to compare APP and SOUN?

Use the comparison that answers the question you actually have, and keep periods and metrics aligned where possible. For the latest annual results covered here, the useful distinctions are:

  • Revenue scale: AppLovin reported $5.481 billion in FY2025; SoundHound reported $84.693 million in FY2024. These are not same-year results.
  • Reported annual growth: SoundHound’s FY2024 revenue grew 85%. AppLovin’s FY2025 release reported 70% growth using its stated FY2024 comparison figure of $3.224 billion; its separate FY2024 release reported $4.709 billion in total revenue.
  • Dollar expansion: SoundHound added $38.820 million between FY2023 and FY2024. AppLovin’s reported FY2024-to-FY2025 comparison added about $2.257 billion, subject to the basis caveat.
  • Growth composition: AppLovin’s FY2024 advertising line grew 75%, while apps grew 3%. SoundHound’s cited figures describe its overall revenue and do not provide a comparable product- or industry-level breakdown.
  • Profitability: AppLovin reported FY2025 net income and positive adjusted EBITDA. SoundHound reported negative adjusted EBITDA and a GAAP net loss for FY2024.
  • Forward outlook: SoundHound’s $157 million to $177 million FY2025 revenue range was guidance issued in February 2025, not a completed result.
  • Comparability: The latest periods differ, so neither headline percentage should be presented as a definitive same-year winner.

On these measures, AppLovin stands out for scale and profitability; SoundHound stands out for the higher annual percentage growth in its latest completed year. Neither observation alone settles which company is a better investment or has the more durable trajectory. That judgment would require comparable periods and additional evidence on customer concentration, cash flow, costs, and subsequent results, none of which can be established from the figures above.

Common mistakes when reading the numbers

  1. Comparing 70% and 85% without dates. The rates come from different fiscal years and different reporting contexts.
  2. Using $3.224 billion as AppLovin’s total FY2024 revenue. In the earlier breakdown, that amount is advertising revenue; total FY2024 revenue was reported as $4.709 billion.
  3. Calling Q4 growth an annual result. SoundHound’s 101% Q4 increase covers one quarter only.
  4. Treating guidance as reported sales. The $157 million-$177 million SoundHound range is a forecast.
  5. Equating adjusted EBITDA with GAAP profit. The measures use different definitions and can diverge sharply, especially when non-cash accounting items affect GAAP results.
  6. Assuming many industries guarantee diversified revenue. SoundHound names numerous verticals, but the cited releases do not quantify the revenue share from each one.

What should investors watch next?

For AppLovin, the key follow-up is whether advertising remains the main growth engine and whether apps revenue improves from its 3% FY2024 growth rate. Future disclosures that separate advertising and apps, explain customer or geographic concentration, and show cash-flow conversion would help test the durability of the FY2025 performance.

For SoundHound, investors can compare eventual FY2025 revenue with the $157 million-$177 million outlook, track whether quarterly growth remains above the annual 85% FY2024 rate, and monitor adjusted EBITDA alongside GAAP losses. Product-level and vertical-level revenue detail, contract renewals and customer concentration would clarify how broadly distributed the expansion is.

For both companies, the most useful next comparison would place completed fiscal years side by side, use consistent GAAP revenue definitions, and include operating cash flow, margins, acquisition effects and dilution. Until those data are available, the responsible conclusion is descriptive rather than predictive.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does adjusted EBITDA mean when comparing two companies?

Adjusted EBITDA is a company-defined, non-GAAP measure that generally starts with earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, then applies specified adjustments. Because companies can choose different adjustments, it is useful alongside GAAP results but should not be assumed to be calculated identically across businesses.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why can a GAAP net loss differ so much from adjusted EBITDA?

The measures include different items: adjusted EBITDA excludes certain categories by design, while GAAP net income or loss includes accounting items that may be non-cash. A large non-cash item can widen the gap, but investors still need to consider the reported GAAP result and understand what adjustments were made.

Is revenue growth enough to judge whether a company is financially healthy?

No. Revenue shows sales, not whether those sales generate cash or cover operating costs. A fuller assessment also considers margins, cash flow, debt, customer retention, and how much investment is needed to sustain growth.

What is the difference between year-over-year growth and quarter-over-quarter growth?

Year-over-year growth compares a period with the matching period one year earlier, which helps account for seasonal patterns. Quarter-over-quarter growth compares adjacent quarters and can be more sensitive to seasonality or timing.

Which company has stronger revenue growth, APP or SOUN?

SoundHound had the higher reported annual percentage in its FY2024 results, at 85%, versus AppLovin’s reported 70% FY2025 rate. The companies’ latest complete fiscal years differ, so the percentages are not a perfectly matched test.

How much larger is AppLovin than SoundHound by revenue?

AppLovin reported $5.481 billion in FY2025 revenue, while SoundHound reported $84.693 million in FY2024. AppLovin’s figure is roughly 65 times SoundHound’s, but the periods differ and the ratio should be treated as an approximate scale comparison, not a same-year valuation measure.

Does SoundHound’s 101% Q4 growth prove its annual growth will accelerate?

No. Q4 2024 revenue of $34.543 million grew 101% year over year, but one quarter can be affected by timing and seasonality. The complete FY2024 annual growth rate was 85%, and future results must be measured when reported.

What would SoundHound’s FY2025 guidance imply if achieved?

The $157 million-$177 million range issued in February 2025 would be approximately 85.5% to 109% above FY2024 revenue of $84.693 million. Those are implied increases from guidance, not realized revenue or a guarantee.

Why is AppLovin’s advertising segment important?

Advertising revenue was $3.224 billion in FY2024 and grew 75%, compared with 3% growth for the $1.485 billion apps line. That makes advertising the clearest reported source of AppLovin’s recent segment growth, although the figures do not establish how long that pace will last.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can SoundHound’s broad industry list be treated as proof of diversification?

No. SoundHound lists restaurants, healthcare, automotive, retail, energy, government, telecom, financial services, insurance, and travel and hospitality as customer industries. The cited results do not disclose each industry’s revenue share or customer concentration.

Why should AppLovin’s two FY2024 figures not be combined?

The FY2025 release uses $3.224 billion as its FY2024 comparison figure, while the FY2024 release reports $4.709 billion in total FY2024 revenue and identifies $3.224 billion as advertising revenue. Advertising and total revenue are different measures.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: SoundHound AI delivered the faster reported annual percentage growth—85% in FY2024 versus AppLovin’s 70% FY2025 rate—but from a much smaller base and with substantial losses. AppLovin generated $5.481 billion in FY2025 revenue, $3.334 billion in net income and $4.512 billion in adjusted EBITDA. SoundHound’s $157 million-$177 million FY2025 outlook is guidance, not an actual result. AppLovin leads on scale and profitability; SoundHound leads on percentage growth, with fiscal-period and reporting-basis caveats.
