Apple delayed its promised Siri AI improvements to 2026, then began rolling out the new assistant in beta on September 14, 2026. Siri AI adds personal-context understanding, awareness of what is onscreen, broader knowledge, and actions across apps. Its EU status is more complicated: Apple says it will not be available on iPhone or iPad there with iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, and has not given a launch date.
When did the new Siri come out?
Apple previewed Siri AI at its June 8, 2026 developer conference and released it in beta on September 14. That followed the delay Apple announced in March 2025, when it said some planned AI improvements to Siri would not arrive until 2026.
So the short answer to “When is the new Siri coming out?” is that it has started arriving, but as a beta rollout—not a universally available finished release. Apple said the initial beta would be in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish to follow in October 2026.
What changed in the new Siri?
Apple describes Siri AI as a more conversational assistant with capabilities that go beyond responding to isolated voice commands. Its announced features include understanding personal context, recognizing what is onscreen, drawing on broad world knowledge, and taking actions across apps.

Apple says Siri AI uses on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute. The company has not provided an independently published figure for Siri AI’s accuracy or performance, so its capability descriptions should not be read as a measured guarantee for every request.
Why was Apple’s AI Siri delayed?
Apple’s March 7, 2025 announcement said some Siri AI improvements would be delayed until 2026. The available reporting establishes the delay and revised timing, but does not establish a specific technical cause for that original postponement.

The separate EU availability dispute has a stated, contested explanation. Apple says EU rules under the Digital Markets Act would require virtual assistants to access private data and control other apps without safeguards Apple considers sufficient. Apple also says regulators rejected its proposed Trusted System Agent. The European Commission disputes that account: spokesperson Thomas Regnier said, “absolutely nothing in the DMA prohibits Apple from introducing new products in the EU.”
Is Siri AI available in Europe?
Availability depends on the Apple device and operating system. Apple says Siri AI will not ship on iPhone or iPad in the EU with iOS 27 or iPadOS 27, and it has not provided a timeline for those platforms. Apple says EU users can use Siri AI on macOS 27 and visionOS 27. Paired Apple Watch access is also blocked because it depends on an iPhone with Siri AI.

Apple and the European Commission therefore offer sharply different explanations for the iPhone and iPad exclusion. The practical point for EU users is that Apple’s current statement gives no date for bringing Siri AI to those devices.
Which iPhone and other devices support Siri AI?
Apple’s September 2026 release names iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 18-series models, and iPhone Air among the devices supporting its most powerful on-device Apple Intelligence model. It also lists certain iPads with at least 12GB of unified memory and Macs with an M3 or later chip and at least 12GB of unified memory.

Apple says Siri AI and related server-side Apple Intelligence features have daily usage limits, with expanded access available for a fee in the future. The company has not announced the fee, a specific plan, or when paid access will begin. Tim Cook has said Apple expects some users to want heavier use and mentioned possible upgrade options through iCloud+, but that does not establish final pricing or terms.

For now, the distinction to keep in mind is between access to the beta and expanded usage: Apple’s announcement describes daily limits and a future paid option, not a confirmed subscription price for the assistant.
