Apple says all three appear in iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, and it also identifies A20 Pro, N1 and C2 in its announced foldable iPhone Duo.
Three chips, three different jobs
Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro announcement describes a system of components rather than a single chip responsible for every function. A20 Pro is the main application processor; N1 is the wireless networking chip; C2 is the cellular modem system.
| Component | Role Apple describes | Announced capabilities |
|---|---|---|
| A20 Pro | Main application processor | 2-nanometer process, 6-core CPU, 7-core GPU and Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says it includes Neural Accelerators in the CPU. |
| N1 | Wireless networking | Apple-designed chip enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. |
| C2 | Cellular modem system | Apple describes AI-powered improvements to cellular quality and reliability, plus U.S. mmWave support. |
These descriptions and specifications come from Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro announcement. N1’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functions are distinct from C2’s cellular connection; neither replaces A20 Pro’s general computing role.
What Apple says A20 Pro improves
Apple compares A20 Pro with A19 Pro, making the figures below company-reported generational claims rather than independently verified benchmark results.

| Area | Apple’s stated comparison with A19 Pro |
|---|---|
| Memory bandwidth | 50 percent more |
| GPU performance | Up to 40 percent faster |
| AI processing power | Double |
Apple says the CPU includes integrated Neural Accelerators and that A20 Pro supports on-device AI workloads and computational photography. Its announcement also calls the CPU faster than the competition, but does not identify a competitor or provide test methodology for that claim. The stated percentages should therefore be read as Apple’s claims, not as results established across independent tests.
Peak speed is not the whole performance story
Apple also links sustained performance to the iPhone 18 Pro’s packaging and thermal design. It says the redesigned vapor chamber has three times the surface area of the previous generation on iPhone 17 Pro and enables up to a 40 percent sustained-performance gain over the previous iPhone Pro generation.
According to Apple, the silicon die and memory sit side by side outside the chip’s thermal path, while A20 Pro attaches directly to the vapor chamber. The company presents this arrangement as a way to manage heat and maintain performance under extended workloads. The 40 percent figure is Apple’s stated maximum; the announcement does not provide independent testing or specify how performance varies by workload.

C2 and N1: cellular versus local wireless connections
Apple calls C2 its next-generation cellular modem system and says it improves cellular quality and reliability using AI. It claims C2 delivers faster uploads than C1X while using 15 percent less energy, and confirms mmWave support in the United States. Apple does not give a numerical upload-speed comparison, so the announcement does not establish how much faster uploads are.
N1 covers a different set of connections: Apple says its wireless networking chip enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread. The announcement does not provide comparative performance figures for N1.
A20 Pro also appears in Apple’s announced iPhone Duo
Apple’s September 9, 2026 announcement for iPhone Duo also names A20 Pro, N1 and C2. It describes a chip package that connects A20 Pro directly to a custom vapor chamber, which Apple says supports multitasking, gaming and AI workloads on the foldable display. These are Duo-specific design claims; they should not be confused with the separate vapor-chamber details Apple provides for iPhone 18 Pro.

Apple’s July 2026 release describes a multiyear agreement with Broadcom to design and produce custom silicon components and wireless connectivity technologies for Apple products. Apple says the agreement is expected to exceed $30 billion and lead to more than 15 billion U.S.-made chips; these are projected agreement figures, not independently audited production outcomes.
Apple says Broadcom will produce advanced radio-frequency components, including FBAR filters, and wireless connectivity technologies at its Fort Collins, Colorado, facility, where Broadcom’s investment is stated as $1.5 billion. The release does not map each component from the agreement to a particular device model, so it does not establish that the announced iPhone 18 Pro chips—or every part used in a specific phone—come from that facility. What the announcement establishes
Apple has specified A20 Pro’s architecture and named its connectivity partners in the iPhone 18 Pro system. Its performance improvements, power-efficiency comparison and thermal gains remain Apple-reported claims; the announcements cited here do not include independent benchmark results. Apple says iPhone 18 Pro availability begins October 23, 2026, so that date is an announced start of availability, not evidence that the phones are already on sale.
