Choose Apple TV if you mainly want Apple Originals, commercial-free viewing of those originals, or the live sports Apple promotes in the U.S. Choose Netflix if you want a broader mix of genres, a lower-cost ad-supported option, or a Premium plan with 4K/HDR. Neither service is an objective winner for every viewer; the better fit depends on price, shows you want to watch, ads, household rules and playback needs.
This comparison uses U.S. prices and official service details checked October 4, 2026. Prices, plans, catalogs, sports rights and device support can change, and availability differs by country.

Apple describes Apple TV as a service with hundreds of exclusive shows and movies and says new episodes and titles arrive weekly. Its U.S. page promotes Formula 1, MLS and Friday Night Baseball. - Pick Netflix Standard if you want Netflix without ads at 1080p and do not need Premium’s 4K/HDR features or four simultaneous devices.
- Pick Netflix Premium if you want Netflix’s listed 4K Ultra HD, HDR and spatial audio features, or need four simultaneous devices and downloads on six supported devices.
- Compare household fit before subscribing if multiple people will use the account, especially if some live outside the household.
