For viewers in the United States during the 2026 season, Apple TV is the better starting point for live Formula 1: Apple is the U.S. broadcaster, and its subscribers get F1 TV Premium access at no extra cost. F1 TV remains useful for its app and its F1-specific viewing features, but U.S. viewers should not treat it as a separate, equivalent live-race subscription. Outside the U.S., broadcast rights and available plans differ.

Apple TV vs. F1 TV at a glance

What matters Apple TV in the U.S., 2026 F1 TV
Live F1 access Apple says subscribers can watch every Grand Prix live, including practice, qualifying and Sprint sessions. Apple’s U.S. F1 guide Plans and live access depend on the country. F1’s service page describes its features, but does not present F1 TV as a separate, equivalent U.S. live-race subscription under the 2026 arrangement. F1 TV plans and features
F1 TV Premium Included for U.S. Apple TV subscribers at no additional cost, accessed through the Apple Account. Apple’s U.S. rights announcement F1 TV remains an app and service, but U.S. subscribers should use the Premium access linked to their Apple subscription rather than assume they need a second subscription.
Price example Apple listed $12.99 per month and a seven-day free trial for new subscribers in its April 2026 announcement. Price and trial eligibility may change. Apple’s April 2026 announcement Not directly comparable for U.S. live-race viewing under this arrangement; F1 TV plans vary by territory.
Alternate views and coverage For the Miami Grand Prix in April 2026, Apple described English and Spanish commentary and up to 30 additional live feeds across sessions. That was an event-specific feature statement, not a promise for every race. Apple’s April 2026 announcement F1 describes features such as live timing, team radio, pre- and post-race shows, analysis, Tech Talks and documentaries; availability depends on the plan and region. Does Apple TV include F1 TV Premium?

Yes. Apple says F1 TV Premium will continue to be available in the U.S. only through an Apple TV subscription, and that it is included for subscribers. Apple’s U.S. F1 guide says subscribers receive F1 TV Premium through their Apple Account. This means U.S. viewers can use the F1 TV experience without paying for a second U.S. F1 TV Premium subscription.

The distinction is between the subscription and the app experience: Apple TV is the U.S. broadcast subscription, while F1 TV is still relevant for its own interface and F1-focused features. Check that your Apple Account is the one associated with the subscription when accessing linked Premium features.

What you can watch and where the services differ

Live race weekends

Apple says its U.S. subscribers can watch every Grand Prix live, including practice, qualifying and Sprint sessions. That makes it the straightforward choice if your main requirement is watching the full race weekend in the United States.

F1-specific data, radio and programming

Formula 1 describes F1 TV features including live timing, team radio, delayed race replays, an archive, pre- and post-race shows, analysis, Tech Talks and documentaries. Viewing on up to six devices is advertised on the F1 TV page, while replay availability and access to features vary by plan and region. For a U.S. Apple TV subscriber, the relevant question is which of these Premium features you want to use—not whether F1 TV is a second, standalone live-race purchase.

Alternate live feeds and commentary

For Miami in April 2026, Apple announced English and Spanish commentary and up to 30 additional live feeds across all sessions. Its examples included a Driver Tracker, timing and data feeds, a mixed onboard feed that switches cameras, and a Podium feed following the top three. Treat those details as specific to the Miami announcement; the number and type of feeds can be event-dependent.

Which should you choose?

Choose Apple TV for live F1 in the U.S.

If you are a U.S. viewer who wants live races and the full weekend, Apple TV is the practical starting point because it carries the live coverage and includes F1 TV Premium access. Apple listed a U.S. price of $12.99 per month and a seven-day trial for new subscribers in April 2026; verify the current price and your trial eligibility before subscribing.

Use the F1 TV app if its features suit you

Committed fans may prefer the F1 TV app for its timing, radio, replay, archive and analysis features. In the U.S. in 2026, check the Premium access linked to your Apple Account rather than budgeting for a separate subscription automatically.

Check local rights if you are outside the U.S.

Apple’s F1 broadcast arrangement described here is U.S.-only. It does not establish what a viewer can watch or buy in another country. Check the local broadcaster and the F1 TV plans offered in your territory before choosing.

Do you need an Apple TV 4K?

No. Apple TV is the streaming service and app; Apple TV 4K is a separate hardware device. Apple lists the service on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV 4K, Apple Vision Pro, Mac, supported smart TVs, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation, Xbox and tv.apple.com. Check Apple’s device guide for watching Formula 1 for compatibility details. The Apple TV 4K is one option for viewing on a television, not a requirement to access the service.
