For Axis Bank customers in India, Apple Pay currently supports eligible Visa and Mastercard credit cards—not every Axis card. If yours is eligible, the right fix depends on whether the card will not add to Wallet, a payment is declined, or the merchant cannot confirm a payment that appears complete. Work through the matching checks below before trying the same transaction again.
First, check whether your Axis card is eligible
Apple’s India list of participating banks and card issuers names Axis Bank Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Axis Bank’s Apple Pay help page likewise describes support for its Visa and Mastercard credit cards. The official information does not establish support for Axis debit cards, RuPay cards, or every individual credit-card product, so confirm your specific card is active and eligible with Axis.

If an issued Axis credit card does not appear in the Axis Mobile Banking App, update the app and check again. If it is still missing, contact Axis Bank; the card may need attention before Wallet setup can succeed.
If you cannot add the card to Apple Wallet
Add it through Axis Mobile Banking or Wallet
- In the Axis Mobile Banking App, sign in, select your credit card, tap “Add to Apple Wallet,” and follow the prompts. Alternatively, open Wallet, start its Add Card flow, and follow the on-screen steps.
- If scanning does not capture the card details, try again in good light while holding the card steady. If scanning still fails, enter the card number, expiry date, and CVV manually in Wallet.
- Complete any SMS OTP or in-app bank verification requested during setup. If Wallet shows “Requires Verification,” open the card in Wallet and finish the verification. Axis says the card cannot be used until verification is complete.
Never post or send your full card details to someone offering to troubleshoot the problem.

Check the device and Apple Account
Apple’s card-add troubleshooting guidance recommends checking that your device and country or region support Apple Pay, the device has the latest applicable operating-system update, and a passcode or Face ID/Touch ID is set up. Make sure two-factor authentication is enabled for your Apple Account, and check your internet connection and Apple service availability.
If Wallet reports “Card Not Added – Contact Your Issuer” or “Invalid Card Data,” Axis directs customers to contact its customer care. Apple does not approve or decline cards; the issuer handles card approval, so an issuer-side setup error needs Axis Bank’s help.
Check device support for Axis cards
Axis Bank’s current help page lists iPhone with iOS 18 or later, iPad with iPadOS 18 or later, and Apple Watch with watchOS 11 or later. It says Axis cards cannot currently be used with Apple Pay on Mac. Axis announced the India launch on September 30, 2026, describing Mac support as coming soon; follow the current bank guidance because availability can change.
If the card is in Wallet but a payment fails
Check where the payment is failing. In-store contactless payments and online or in-app checkouts use different acceptance and card-control checks.
For an in-store payment
- Look for the contactless payment symbol on the terminal. A terminal that does not accept contactless payments cannot take an Apple Pay tap.
- On iPhone, double-click the side button to open Wallet or bring up the default card, authenticate, then hold the top of the phone near the reader. On Apple Watch, double-click the side button and hold the display near the reader.
- In the Axis Mobile Banking App, check that contactless transactions are enabled for the card and review its usage limits under Manage Usage Limits.
For an online or in-app payment
In the Axis Mobile Banking App, check that “Online Shopping” is enabled under Manage Usage Limits for the card. At checkout, select the merchant’s Apple Pay button and authenticate with Face ID or your passcode when prompted.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If Wallet says the payment is done but the merchant cannot find it
Do not immediately submit the payment again. Check Axis Bank’s SMS or email alerts and transaction history to see whether the amount was debited. If the account shows a debit but the merchant has no matching payment record, or the issue persists, contact Axis Bank at 1800 4030 or 1800 8911 (toll-free). For a declined card payment, Apple’s guidance also directs customers to their card issuer.
New-card exception: adding it before the physical card arrives
Axis says an issued credit card visible in its app may be added to Apple Pay before delivery if online transactions are enabled. Before the physical card arrives, Apple Pay use is restricted to online transactions up to ₹5,000 per transaction. An in-store tap will not work within this pre-delivery restriction.
