Apple HomeView is a 7-inch Liquid Retina smart display and home hub, available as a $299 tabletop or wall-mounted device in the United States. The tabletop version is the simpler choice for a counter, nightstand or side table. The wall-mounted version suits an entryway or hallway, but its mount and installation are extra. Apple has not published HomeView’s internal storage capacity, so storage should not be used to choose between the models.

This guide explains the two designs, total ownership costs, iPhone and iPad requirements, privacy and personalization, compatible accessories, regional limitations and the features that matter before you order.

What Apple HomeView is

HomeView combines a smart display, Siri-enabled assistant, FaceTime device, media player and Apple Home hub in one 7-inch unit. It is designed for shared household use while showing personal information separately for each enrolled person. Apple positions it as a central screen for controlling accessories, checking information, communicating and playing audio or video.

The core hardware is the same class of device in both designs: an A18 chip, 7-inch Liquid Retina display, camera, microphones, speakers and home-control sensors. The major buying difference is how the unit is installed and where it can be placed.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Tabletop HomeView

The tabletop model sits on a counter, desk, nightstand or side table. Its stainless-steel hinge lets you tilt the display toward the people using it. It is the practical option if you want to move the screen between rooms, avoid drilling into a wall or keep installation costs to the device price.

Apple lists tabletop colors of silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray. The tabletop device starts at $299 in the United States.

Wall-mounted HomeView

The wall-mounted model is intended for a fixed location such as an entryway or hallway. It can provide a quick view of home controls, cameras, timers, weather and other information without occupying a surface. Apple lists space gray and silver for this model.

The $299 wall-mounted device price does not include mounting hardware. You must buy a compatible Schneider Home mount, and professional installation may add to the total. This version makes the most sense when a permanent location is more valuable than portability.

Tabletop versus wall-mounted: which should you buy?

Consideration Tabletop model Wall-mounted model
U.S. device price $299 $299
Colors Silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray Space gray and silver
Placement Counter, desk, nightstand or side table Entryway, hallway or another permanent wall location
Mounting hardware Not required Required and sold separately
Move between rooms Yes, when disconnected and relocated No; installation is fixed
Installation complexity Connect power and complete setup Choose a mount, prepare the wall and possibly arrange professional installation
Best for Most buyers, renters and flexible room placement Homes that need a permanent command point at a doorway or corridor

Choose tabletop unless you already know the screen belongs on one wall. A wall installation adds a mount, wiring decisions and possible labor without changing the display, processor, camera or software features. The wall model is justified when visibility and a clean, fixed location are more important than a lower installed cost.

How much storage does Apple HomeView have?

Apple has not disclosed HomeView’s built-in storage capacity or listed storage tiers. The launch information specifies the A18 chip, display, camera, microphones, speakers, sensors and software features, but no gigabyte figure.

Do not infer a capacity from the A18 chip, the 7-inch display or the $299 price. There is also no evidence that buying an iCloud+ plan increases HomeView’s internal storage. Apple mentions iCloud for privately syncing Siri conversation history across Apple devices; that is a cloud-sync feature, not a published hardware-storage specification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For buying purposes, treat storage as undisclosed at launch. HomeView is designed to stream or access services such as Apple Music, Podcasts, News, Apple TV and compatible third-party apps rather than serve as a general-purpose local media archive. If your decision depends on storing downloaded films, photos or other large files on the device, wait for Apple to publish a capacity or confirm the behavior for your specific use.

Display, viewing and physical design

The 7-inch Liquid Retina screen uses True Tone and adaptive brightness. Apple specifies a brightness range from 500 nits down to 0.3 nits, allowing a bright daytime view and a much dimmer appearance in a dark room.

The interface is designed to change its information density with viewing distance: simpler information is visible from farther away, while richer detail appears when you are close to the screen. That makes a hallway installation useful for quick status checks, while a tabletop unit can be used more directly for messages, media controls or FaceTime.

On the tabletop model, the stainless-steel hinge provides viewing-angle adjustment. Leave room behind and around the device for the cable and for the screen’s tilt range; placing it tightly against a backsplash or object can make adjustment awkward.

The distinction matters when you are choosing HomeView for a household. Basic controls and general questions do not require every resident to have a personalized profile, but the full personal experience depends on Apple Accounts and compatible devices. Personal context should be considered a convenience feature rather than a substitute for checking important information yourself.

What guests can do

Guests and unrecognized users can still control compatible accessories, check the weather, set timers and play music. They do not need to be enrolled to use those shared functions, which keeps HomeView useful in a shared room without exposing every person’s private information.

Language and regional limits

Apple lists Siri AI in English for the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the United Kingdom. Canadian French is planned through a software update, so it should not be treated as available at launch unless Apple confirms that update for your device.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Personal profiles, privacy and household sharing

HomeView recognizes up to six people. Each enrolled person receives a personalized Home Screen with their own apps and widgets, while personal content is kept separate from other household members’ views.

Each household member needs an Apple Account and a current compatible iPhone or iPad for the full personalized experience. That requirement is separate from the ability of guests to use shared functions.

  • Shared controls: household members and guests can operate compatible accessories, use timers and request general information.
  • Personalized views: enrolled people can see their own apps and widgets on a customized Home Screen.
  • Personal context: compatible Apple Intelligence devices enable Siri to draw on information from apps such as Calendar and Messages.
  • Conversation continuity: Siri conversation history can sync privately through iCloud across Apple devices.

Before enrolling people, decide who should have access to personal information and which Home accessories guests may control. A shared display is convenient, but profile setup is what separates personal requests from common household actions.

Audio, video and communication features

HomeView has two full-range drivers, a down-firing woofer and passive radiators. Apple also describes computational audio and Spatial Audio processing. These features are intended to make the device useful for everyday listening, not just voice responses.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Supported Apple services include Apple Music, Podcasts, News and Apple TV, along with compatible third-party audio and video apps. Handoff lets you move playback between supported Apple devices, and multiroom audio can use HomePod and AirPlay speakers.

FaceTime and messages

A 12MP Center Stage camera keeps people in frame during FaceTime. Messages can be read and answered with voice or a keyboard. Intercom can broadcast announcements to HomeView, HomePod and personal Apple devices, which is useful for calling people to dinner or sending a message through the house.

If you plan to use HomeView mainly for calls, check the room’s lighting and viewing angle before choosing a wall position. A location that is convenient for home control may not put faces at a comfortable height for video calls.

Home control and accessory compatibility

The Home app brings compatible accessories, automations, cameras and scenes together on the display. Apple says thousands of accessories work with Apple Home and recommends looking for the Works with Apple Home logo.

Common categories include:

  • Security and indoor or outdoor cameras
  • Smart locks and entry sensors
  • Motion, contact, temperature and other sensors
  • Lights, switches and dimmers
  • Thermostats and climate controls

Compatibility is not identical across every product in a category. Before buying an accessory, verify its exact features, whether it needs a bridge or separate hub, its wiring and power requirements, regional availability, and support for Matter or HomeKit where relevant.

A practical accessory-checking process

  1. Identify the function you need, such as a camera, lock, light or thermostat.
  2. Look for the Works with Apple Home label and read the manufacturer’s compatibility list for the exact model number.
  3. Check whether the accessory requires a bridge, hub, subscription or always-on wired connection.
  4. Confirm that the device and its advanced features are sold and supported in your country.
  5. After installation, add it to the Home app and test the scene or automation you intend to use.

Matter support can improve interoperability, but it does not guarantee that every vendor feature appears in Apple Home. Compare the functions exposed in Apple’s Home app with the functions advertised by the accessory maker.

Wall-mount accessories and installation cost

The wall-mounted HomeView requires a purpose-built Schneider Home mount. Apple lists these options in the United States:

Accessory Listed U.S. starting price Availability note
Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector From $59.95 Available accessory option
Power Mount AC Wired From $79.95 Available accessory option
Power Mount PoE Wired $129.95 Planned for early 2027

Those figures are for the mount or power accessory, not the HomeView device. A wall installation therefore starts at $358.95 with the USB-C Wall Connector or $378.95 with the AC Wired mount, before any labor, electrical work, wall repair or other materials. The planned PoE option would bring the device-plus-mount total to $428.95 before installation, if it launches at the listed price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Apple says ADT professional installation is available in most areas. Availability and labor pricing vary by location, so obtain a quote before treating any total as final. Renters should also confirm permission to drill or alter wiring.

What you need before setup

Apple’s Store FAQ says HomeView requires either an iPhone running iOS 27.2 or later or an iPad running iPadOS 27.2 or later. Up to six household members can be enrolled, and each needs an Apple Account plus a current compatible iPhone or iPad for the full personalized experience.

  • An iPhone with iOS 27.2 or later, or an iPad with iPadOS 27.2 or later
  • An Apple Account for each person who needs a personalized profile
  • A suitable power connection; wall-mounted buyers also need the correct Schneider Home mount
  • Compatible Apple Home accessories, if you plan to control a smart home
  • A supported country and language for the Siri AI features you expect to use

Basic setup sequence

  1. Place the tabletop unit on a stable surface, or have the wall location and mount prepared before unpacking the wall-mounted model.
  2. Connect power using the supplied or selected compatible power hardware.
  3. Use the required iPhone or iPad to follow HomeView’s on-screen setup and add it to your household.
  4. Enroll household members with their Apple Accounts if personalized Home Screens and personal context are wanted.
  5. Add compatible accessories in the Home app, then test controls, scenes, cameras and automations individually.
  6. Review Siri, FaceTime, Messages and Intercom settings so the device behaves appropriately in a shared room.

Availability, launch dates and regional caveats

Apple announced HomeView on October 13, 2026. Preorders began that day, with availability starting November 13, 2026, in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and Singapore. South Africa receives availability through authorized resellers.

Apple says HomeView is not available for sale in the European Union because Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS in the EU. Availability can change if Apple expands regional support, but buyers in the EU should not assume that importing a unit will provide a supported experience.

How to choose based on your priorities

Choose tabletop if flexibility matters

  • You live in a rental or do not want wall work.
  • You may move the display between a kitchen, bedroom and living area.
  • You want to avoid buying a separate mount and paying installation labor.
  • You prefer the wider color selection, including starlight and rose pink.

Choose wall-mounted if location is the priority

  • You want a permanent control point at an entryway or hallway.
  • You value visibility from a distance more than portability.
  • You are prepared to buy a Schneider Home mount and arrange suitable wiring.
  • You have permission and budget for installation and possible wall work.

Delay the purchase if storage is decisive

Apple has not stated the internal storage capacity or offered storage tiers. If local storage is a deciding requirement, wait for a published specification or confirmation from Apple rather than relying on guesses based on other devices.

Buying checklist

  • Confirm that HomeView is sold and supported in your country.
  • Check that your setup iPhone or iPad meets iOS 27.2 or iPadOS 27.2.
  • Decide whether a movable tabletop device or fixed wall position fits the room.
  • For wall mounting, price the device, mount, wiring and possible professional labor together.
  • Verify the exact model and regional support for every camera, lock, sensor, light or thermostat.
  • Plan profiles for up to six people and decide what guests should be able to control.
  • Check Siri AI language support, especially if you need Canadian French or live in the European Union.
  • Do not purchase based on an assumed storage capacity; Apple has not published one.

Bottom line

Apple HomeView is primarily a placement decision. The $299 tabletop model delivers the complete display, Siri, communication, media and Apple Home experience without installation, making it the sensible default for most households. The $299 wall-mounted model is worthwhile when a permanent hallway or entryway screen solves a specific visibility problem and you are comfortable adding a Schneider Home mount and possible labor. Storage remains an undisclosed specification, while the most important practical requirements are a recent iPhone or iPad, supported regional Siri AI and carefully checked Apple Home accessory compatibility.
