Azahar has withdrawn official, device-specific support for Anbernic hardware, including the RG DDS. The project says bugs tied to Anbernic devices will not be investigated or fixed by its team. That policy does not, by itself, show that the Android app has been blocked, that every 3DS game will stop working, or that retail RG DDS units have failed compatibility tests. As of October 30, 2026, the RG DDS was still a pre-order, with gradual shipping advertised from December 10. Buyers therefore face a support-risk decision rather than a confirmed shutdown: the console’s dual-screen hardware and published specifications remain, but project-backed troubleshooting for Anbernic-specific problems is no longer promised.
The immediate practical steps are to identify whether an installed app is an official Azahar build or a separately maintained fork, avoid assuming a graphics-driver change is a guaranteed fix, and decide whether independent community troubleshooting is acceptable before keeping or placing an order.
What exactly did Azahar withdraw?
Azahar’s October 26, 2026 statement concerns official support for devices made by Anbernic, not only one model. In a statement reproduced by GBAtemp, the Azahar Emulator team said: “Any issues or bugs related to devices from this specific manufacturer will not be investigated or resolved.” The wording means the project is declining manufacturer-specific investigation and fixes. It is not an announcement that all Azahar code has stopped running on Anbernic hardware.

The support decision and the dispute are separate from whether a particular game can launch on a particular retail unit.

The announcement was reported by GBAtemp. The original social-media post linked in that report was inaccessible to the cited publication, so the quotation is best understood as a reproduced project statement. Azahar’s continuing project identity and Android distribution are independently visible on its official website.
Does this mean Azahar is blocked on the RG DDS?
No such block has been announced. The available information shows that Azahar’s Android distribution remains available, while the team has stopped promising to investigate or resolve Anbernic-specific bugs. Installation availability and official support are different things.
What “no support” changes
- An RG DDS owner can no longer reasonably expect an Anbernic-specific issue to receive project investigation or a targeted fix from Azahar’s developers.
- A bug report that depends on the RG DDS’s display layout, controls, firmware, driver stack or other manufacturer-specific behavior may be closed, declined or left to community troubleshooting.
- Future Azahar releases may continue to improve the emulator generally, but the statement gives no guarantee that those changes will be validated on Anbernic hardware.
What the announcement does not establish
- It does not prove that the application cannot be installed on an RG DDS.
- It does not prove that every 3DS title fails, or that every title works.
- It does not provide a game-by-game compatibility list, frame-rate measurement or retail-hardware benchmark.
Those distinctions matter because a device can run an application without being a supported target. Owners may still see successful launches, but they carry more responsibility for identifying causes and finding workarounds when something breaks.

The RG DDS is Anbernic’s dual-screen Android handheld. On October 30, 2026, Anbernic still listed it as a pre-order and said units would ship gradually starting December 10, 2026. That timing means reports about finished retail hardware should be treated cautiously before shipments begin; promotional specifications are not the same as independent game testing.
| Published specification | Anbernic listing | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Upper display | 4.7-inch IPS, 1200 × 720 | Manufacturer specification, 2026 |
| Lower display | 4-inch IPS, 960 × 720 | Manufacturer specification, 2026 |
| Processor | Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 | Manufacturer specification; no independent RG DDS benchmark established |
| Operating system | Android 16 | Manufacturer specification |
| Memory and storage options | 8 GB RAM/128 GB storage or 12 GB RAM/256 GB storage | Configuration choices shown by Anbernic |
| Expansion | TF-card support up to 2 TB | Manufacturer-stated maximum; card performance and compatibility can vary |
| Battery | 6,000 mAh | Listed capacity, not a tested endurance result |
| Selected pre-order price | $284.99 | Anbernic sale listing checked October 2026; price and inventory can change |
Anbernic’s selected configuration is labeled “No SD Card.” The product page also lists a retractable stylus and two screen protectors in the package. These details describe what the manufacturer lists, not a guarantee of emulator performance. The current specifications and order terms are on Anbernic’s RG DDS product page.

Can I still install Azahar on an RG DDS?
The available evidence supports continued Android distribution, but it does not promise successful installation on every RG DDS firmware build. Azahar’s project describes itself as an open-source 3DS emulator for Android and other platforms, and its documentation points users to Google Play and official APK distribution. An app downloaded from one of those channels should not be confused with a separately maintained fork.
How to check the build you have
- Open Android’s app information screen for the emulator and record the exact application name, version and publisher information.
- Compare that identity with the download channel listed on Azahar’s official site. A package obtained from an unrelated project or mirror is not automatically an official Azahar release.
- Keep the original download source and version number with any bug report. A developer cannot reliably diagnose a problem when the app’s provenance, build or modifications are unknown.
- Back up saves and configuration files before changing builds. Installing another package can create separate data directories or overwrite settings, depending on Android’s package identity and the installer.
Changing from a fork to an official build, or the reverse, does not restore Anbernic-specific support. It only changes which project maintains the software you are running. Also use only games and system files you are legally entitled to use; the support dispute does not change copyright obligations.

Will 3DS games still run on the RG DDS?
There is no responsible yes-or-no answer for the whole library. The support announcement establishes a loss of project-backed investigation, not a measured compatibility result. No independently published RG DDS game-by-game benchmark was established for this situation, so claims about a specific title, frame rate or universal failure would go beyond the available evidence.
What can still happen in practice
- A game may launch and remain playable even though the device is no longer an officially supported target.
- A title may expose a device-specific problem, such as incorrect screen composition, input mapping, graphics glitches, audio faults or crashes, without a guaranteed Azahar fix.
- An emulator update, Android update or graphics-driver change may alter behavior. That possibility is not proof of a reliable workaround.
Anbernic mentions Turnip graphics drivers in its product material, but that mention is a specification or feature reference, not a benchmark. Installing a different driver can introduce its own compatibility issues, and no cited source verifies a particular driver version as an RG DDS solution. Treat community reports as model- and version-specific observations rather than a supported game list.
How to document a problem usefully
- Write down the RG DDS memory/storage configuration, Android version, emulator build, game version and graphics-driver state.
- Describe whether the failure occurs at startup, during a particular scene, when switching screens or after suspending and resuming.
- Capture reproducible steps and relevant logs without sharing copyrighted game files or personal data.
- Check community guidance for the exact build before changing several settings at once; otherwise you will not know which change affected the result.
These steps can make community troubleshooting more efficient, but they do not turn an unsupported device into a supported one.

Does the policy affect every Anbernic handheld?
Yes, the wording is manufacturer-wide: Azahar said it would not officially support Anbernic devices, rather than naming only the RG DDS. That includes other Anbernic models in principle. The statement still does not say that an existing installation on another model will suddenly be disabled, nor does it provide a failure forecast for each handheld.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Owners of another Anbernic device should therefore separate two questions: whether their current software continues to launch, and whether Azahar will investigate a new device-specific bug. The first may remain unchanged; the second is the risk the policy expressly introduces. Do not transfer a fix or compatibility result from one Anbernic model to another without matching the Android version, chipset, display arrangement and emulator build.
Should you keep an RG DDS pre-order?
Keep or cancel based on how much you value the hardware independently of official emulator support. The RG DDS offers a purpose-built dual-screen layout, a listed Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 platform, two RAM/storage configurations and TF-card expansion. Against that, the principal software risk is the loss of a project willing to investigate Anbernic-specific faults before the product has broadly shipped.
Reasons to keep the order
- You want the dual-screen form factor even if some games require community configuration.
- You are comfortable troubleshooting Android apps, drivers, controls and display settings without a guaranteed upstream fix.
- The published configuration, $284.99 selected sale price and December 10 gradual-shipping estimate still fit your budget and schedule.
Reasons to reconsider
- You require a manufacturer-and-emulator combination with an explicit support path for game-specific bugs.
- You are buying primarily for a particular 3DS title and cannot accept uncertainty about retail-unit compatibility.
- You need the device by a fixed date; the listing describes gradual shipping rather than a guaranteed arrival date.
Contemporary coverage has mentioned the Retroid Pocket Duo as an alternative to investigate, but the cited material does not verify guaranteed official Azahar support for that model. A different handheld may have its own trade-offs, so do not treat the comparison as a support promise.
Recheck the listing immediately before paying: pre-order status, inventory, the selected “No SD Card” configuration, price and shipping language can change. Accessories such as Anbernic’s compatible protective bag or a microSD card may improve ownership convenience, but no accessory restores Azahar’s official support.

What is the difference between official Azahar and AzaharPlus?
Official Azahar is the project identified by Azahar’s own website and distribution channels. AzaharPlus is a separately maintained fork identified in contemporary reporting about Anbernic’s promotion. A fork can share code or lineage while having different maintainers, release practices, policies and support obligations.
Check the publisher, package name, release page and update channel instead of relying on an icon or a similar name. If a download is offered only through an unrelated page, treat it as a different project until its maintainers establish otherwise. Installing a fork does not make an Anbernic device officially supported by Azahar, and installing official Azahar does not obligate the team to investigate the RG DDS.
An Azahar developer also raised additional objections about the fork, including an allegation concerning GPL compliance. That claim is an allegation by a project participant, not an adjudicated court or regulator finding. The support decision can be explained without presenting that allegation as settled fact.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should owners do before reporting a bug?
Because Anbernic-specific investigation is no longer promised, preparation matters more, especially when asking community members for help.
- Record the exact RG DDS model name so it is not confused with the differently named RG DS.
- Include Android version, emulator source, emulator version, RAM/storage configuration and any custom graphics driver.
- State whether the issue affects one game or several and whether it survives a clean configuration.
- Back up save data before clearing app storage, reinstalling or switching packages.
- Avoid posting copyrighted ROMs, decrypted system files, private account data or device serial numbers.
If the issue is clearly tied to Anbernic hardware, expect that official Azahar channels may decline to investigate under the announced policy. Community advice, a future generic emulator improvement or an Anbernic firmware change might still help, but none is guaranteed by the statement.

What is the practical bottom line for an RG DDS buyer?
The RG DDS has not been shown to be unusable. The confirmed change is narrower and more consequential: Azahar no longer offers official device-specific support for Anbernic hardware. The app remains distributed for Android, but a successful installation is not a support commitment, and no cited source establishes retail RG DDS compatibility for any particular game.
As of October 30, 2026, the product was still a pre-order scheduled for gradual shipping from December 10. Treat the $284.99 listing, specifications and 6,000 mAh capacity as changeable manufacturer information, not independent performance results. A buyer who values the dual-screen design and can tolerate community-led troubleshooting may still find the order rational; a buyer who requires guaranteed emulator support should wait for verified retail compatibility evidence or choose a platform with a support policy that explicitly covers its hardware.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an Azahar update later restore official Anbernic support?
It is possible for project policy to change, but the October 26, 2026 statement provides no roadmap or reversal condition. Until Azahar publishes a new policy, assume Anbernic-specific investigation remains outside its commitments.
Is the RG DDS the same device as the RG DS?
No. The product discussed here is the RG DDS, a distinct model with the dual-screen specifications listed by Anbernic. Confusing the names can lead to inaccurate compatibility reports and purchase decisions.
Do I need to buy a replacement stylus or screen protectors?
Anbernic’s listing says the RG DDS package includes a retractable stylus and two screen protectors. Replacement accessories are optional ownership purchases and have no effect on Azahar’s support policy.
Can a microSD card make unsupported games compatible?
No. Storage expansion can provide room for legally owned software and files, but it cannot supply an emulator fix or create official project support. Anbernic lists TF-card expansion up to 2 TB; actual card behavior still depends on the card and device.
