AMD gained global x86 CPU shipment share in desktop PCs, notebooks and servers in Q2 2026. It passed 30% of client shipments, but Intel remained the larger supplier overall and in each broad category reported. These figures measure CPUs shipped into the supply chain—not the installed base of computers people use or each company’s share of CPU revenue.
AMD vs. Intel x86 CPU shipment share in Q2 2026
The figures below are global unit-shipment shares attributed to Mercury Research and reported by Tom’s Hardware. “Client” combines desktop and notebook CPUs; the segment rows should not be added together because they use separate category denominators.
| Market segment | AMD, Q2 2026 | Intel, Q2 2026 | AMD comparison |
|---|---|---|---|
| Client x86 CPUs | 30.3% | 69.7% | 29.6% in Q1 2026; 23.9% in Q2 2025 |
| Desktop x86 CPUs | 34.9% | 65.1% | 33.2% in Q1 2026; 32.2% in Q2 2025 |
| Notebook/mobile x86 CPUs | 28.9% | 71.1% | 28.3% in Q1 2026; 20.6% in Q2 2025 |
| Broad server CPU measure | 34.5% | 65.5% | 33.2% in Q1 2026; 27.3% in Q2 2025 |
| EPYC-versus-Xeon server comparison | 46.4% | 53.6% | AMD gained 2.9 percentage points quarter over quarter and 9.2 points year over year |
The figures are Mercury Research data as reported by Tom’s Hardware; TechSpot also reported the client share and explains it as shipment share. The original Mercury Research Q2 2026 note was not directly available in the cited coverage, so the figures are attributed to Mercury through those reports.
What the client share says—and what it does not
AMD supplied 30.3% of global client x86 CPU shipments in Q2 2026, up from 29.6% the previous quarter and 23.9% in Q2 2025. Intel supplied the remaining 69.7%. That is a measure of the flow of CPUs into the supply chain during the quarter, not a count of every desktop and laptop already in use. It also is not revenue share: a unit-share percentage does not show how much sales value either vendor captured. TechSpot’s report describes the client figures on this shipment basis.
#1 Best Overall
- The world’s fastest gaming processor, built on AMD ‘Zen5’ technology and Next Gen 3D V-Cache.
- 8 cores and 16 threads, delivering +~16% IPC uplift and great power efficiency
- 96MB L3 cache with better thermal performance vs. previous gen and allowing higher clock speeds, up to 5.2GHz

- Cooler not included
Why desktop share rose during a shrinking market
AMD’s desktop share reached 34.9%, up from 33.2% in Q1 2026 and 32.2% in Q2 2025. At the same time, desktop CPU shipments fell by more than 20% both year over year and quarter over quarter, according to Mercury Research figures reported by Tom’s Hardware and TechRadar Pro.
A share is a percentage of a market, so it can rise even when a company’s shipments decline if competitors’ shipments fall faster. The reported figures therefore establish AMD’s improved relative position, not growth in its absolute desktop CPU shipments. They also do not establish that desktop demand rose; the market contracted sharply.

Notebook and server results use different comparisons
Notebook CPUs
AMD reached 28.9% of notebook/mobile x86 CPU shipments, compared with 28.3% in Q1 2026 and 20.6% in Q2 2025. Intel held 71.1%. The reported quarter saw mobile shipments rise as Intel expanded capacity and AMD shipments also increased, according to Tom’s Hardware’s account of the Mercury Research data.
Server CPUs
AMD’s broad server CPU shipment share was 34.5%, against Intel’s 65.5%. That calculation includes Intel edge and networking processors. A narrower EPYC-versus-Xeon comparison puts AMD at 46.4%, up 2.9 percentage points quarter over quarter and 9.2 points year over year. These numbers answer different questions because the broader measure and the product-to-product comparison have different denominators; neither should be presented as interchangeable with the other. Both figures are reported by Tom’s Hardware.

How AMD’s results relate to its financials
AMD reported Q2 2026 Data Center segment revenue of $6.7 billion, up 107% year over year, and Client segment revenue of $3.1 billion, up 23%. AMD said Ryzen demand primarily drove growth in its Client and Gaming segment, and its results also highlighted 6th Gen EPYC server CPUs. These are company-reported financial and product facts, not market-share measures: segment revenue covers AMD’s reporting categories and cannot be directly compared with Mercury Research’s CPU unit shipments. AMD gained x86 CPU shipment share across the reported desktop, notebook and server categories in Q2 2026. Intel nevertheless remained ahead in client shipments and in both the broad server and EPYC-versus-Xeon comparisons. The desktop gain is relative share in a sharply contracting market, while the two server percentages reflect different market definitions.
