When an AI wearable fails, find out which part of the chain broke: audio capture, transfer to the phone, or transcript generation. A Bluetooth “connected” label proves only that a connection exists; it does not prove that a recording session started. Confirm a recording indicator or active session, run a short controlled test, then check app permissions, pairing, sync, and transcription in that order. This approach is safer than jumping straight to a factory reset, which can erase captures on some devices.
What should I check first when an AI wearable is not recording or transcribing?
Check the pipeline in order: capture (did the wearable save audio?), transfer (did the recording reach the phone or service?), and transcription (did the service turn that audio into text?). A failure at an earlier stage makes later troubleshooting misleading. For example, an empty transcript may simply mean that no recording was created, not that speech recognition failed.
Use the wearable’s LED, vibration, on-device display, or an active-session indicator in its app as evidence that recording has started. Do not use the phone’s Bluetooth status alone as proof. Keep the first test short and controlled so you know exactly what should appear afterward.

Start with a 20–30-second test in a quiet room. Begin a session, speak clearly, stop the session, wait briefly, and look for a new conversation or recording in the companion app. This is the controlled-test sequence described for Omi integrations; it is a useful diagnostic pattern, not a universal button sequence for every wearable. Omi’s third-party device guide says to verify an active recording/session, confirm that the wearable itself indicates recording, and then perform a short test.

Signs that capture started
- An LED changes state or begins blinking.
- The device vibrates or shows a recording symbol.
- The companion app shows an active session, elapsed time, or stop control.
- A new conversation, audio file, or session appears after you stop.
If none of these occurs, treat the problem as a capture or start-command failure. Move on to permissions and the manufacturer’s recording-start instructions rather than troubleshooting transcription. If the indicator shows recording but no item appears later, capture may have succeeded and the problem is more likely transfer or storage.
Why a Bluetooth connection is not enough
Bluetooth can remain connected while the recording function is idle, paused, or blocked by the app. Some products start capture on the wearable; others depend on an active app session or integration. The manufacturer’s instructions determine which behavior applies, so look for a session indicator rather than assuming that a connected icon means audio is being saved.
Which app permissions and background settings affect recording?
Confirm that the companion or integration app can use the microphone and remain active while a session is expected to run. A denied microphone permission can prevent capture entirely; an app that is suspended in the background can stop an integration from receiving audio or session events.

- Open your phone’s Settings and find the app’s permissions page.
- Allow microphone access while using the app, or choose the broader option if the manufacturer requires background recording.
- Return to the app, close any previous session, and repeat the short controlled test.
Menu names differ between iOS, Android, and individual operating-system releases. Use the permission label shown for your phone and confirm that you changed the permission for the correct companion app, not a similarly named utility.
Check background operation on Android
Battery-management rules are app-specific. For Omi integrations, the official guidance recommends turning off battery optimization for Omi when background operation is required. Follow that recommendation only for Omi or another product whose own documentation says the same; disabling battery optimization indiscriminately can increase battery use and is not established as necessary for every wearable. See Omi’s third-party setup guidance and its device-issues article.
Check for an app state that pauses recording
- Open the companion app and look for a paused, disconnected, or expired session.
- Keep the phone close to the wearable during the test.
- Do not swipe the app away or use a system “sleep” feature while recording is supposed to continue.
- After changing permissions, restart the app before testing again.
How do I fix pairing and Bluetooth problems?
Pair through the route required by the product, clear stale pairings only when instructed, and reconnect with the phone nearby. A reliable recovery sequence is to toggle Bluetooth, force-quit and reopen the companion app, forget the wearable in the app, and retry pairing. The exact button presses and pairing-mode timing vary by model, so use the device’s current support instructions for those details.
Use the manufacturer’s app when required
Limitless says to pair its Pendant through the iOS or Android app rather than the phone’s ordinary Bluetooth-settings screen. Its Pendant troubleshooting instructions describe toggling Bluetooth, force-quitting the app, forgetting the Pendant in the app, and trying again. A phone-level pairing record can interfere with an app-managed connection, so do not create a second pairing path unless the manufacturer explicitly tells you to.

Remove stale entries for an Omi integration
For supported third-party devices, Omi’s troubleshooting guide recommends putting the wearable into pairing mode, removing old phone Bluetooth entries when appropriate, and reconnecting from inside Omi. “When appropriate” matters: deleting a pairing can require the device’s specific reset or pairing-mode sequence, and those steps differ among devices.
Basic connection checks
- Keep the phone within the distance recommended by the device maker.
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled and that another phone is not already connected.
- Restart the companion app after toggling Bluetooth.
- Check that the wearable has enough charge to remain in pairing mode and record.
If the wearable pairs but still does not show an active session, return to the capture test. Pairing success and recording success are separate checks.
Could the recording exist but still be waiting to sync?
Yes. A recording can be stored on the wearable or phone and remain absent from the transcript view until synchronization runs. Open the companion app with the wearable nearby, keep the connection available, and allow the app time to process the transfer before concluding that the recording is missing.
Limitless Pendant’s documented sync path
Limitless says Pendant recordings sync to its iOS app when the app is opened and then sync onward to its web and desktop apps. Its support material also says recordings may be stored locally on the Pendant when it is away from the phone or when Bluetooth is off. For that product, open the phone app near the Pendant and wait for the local recordings to transfer before checking the web or desktop view. See Limitless’s interaction and sync explanation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsDo not apply that storage and sync sequence to every wearable. Some devices stream audio to a phone, some retain files until a later transfer, and some require the companion app to be open. The manufacturer’s documentation is the authority for the particular model.
How to tell a sync delay from a capture failure
- A recording indicator appeared and the session stopped normally, but no transcript is visible: investigate transfer first.
- The companion app shows a local file or conversation waiting to upload: leave the app open and connected.
- No indicator appeared, no session was listed, and no local file exists: return to capture and permissions.
What if the recording is visible but the transcript or summary is missing?
That is a downstream problem. First open the service’s actual conversation or transcript view, not only the device-connection screen. Then check whether the account is connected and whether the service reports a usage, quota, or processing status. A visible audio item proves that capture and at least part of transfer worked; it does not guarantee that transcript or summary generation has completed.
Use issue-specific support categories
Plaud’s official support index separates recording, missing files, transcription and summary generation, transfer, and app or Bluetooth issues into different categories. Use the category that matches the symptom rather than applying a recording fix to a transcript job. The index does not provide enough detail to justify a Plaud-specific workaround here, so consult the current articles directly: Plaud Troubleshooting and Plaud Desktop Troubleshooting.

Check the correct account and view
If a file appears on the phone but not on the desktop, verify that both apps use the same account and that the phone has completed its upload. If an audio file is present but only the summary is absent, treat transcription and summarization as separate service stages and look for a processing or error state before recording again.

Should I restart, unpair, or factory-reset the wearable?
Use the least destructive action first: restart the app and wearable, repair the connection, and test again. Unpairing and re-pairing is generally safer than a factory reset. Before any reset, check whether recordings are backed up or still stored locally and read the current model-specific instructions.
Ray-Ban Meta glasses: restart before reset
The official US FAQ recommends restarting the glasses and app when the Import button is missing, then unpairing and re-pairing if necessary. It distinguishes a force restart, which does not delete captures, from a factory reset, which deletes captures. Follow the current button sequence in the Ray-Ban Meta US FAQ rather than relying on a sequence copied for another firmware version.
If the problem continues after the documented troubleshooting steps, the FAQ states: “If the problem persists after troubleshooting, please open a warranty claim using our portal.” That instruction is specific to the Ray-Ban support process; other manufacturers may use different escalation routes.
When a factory reset is justified
Reserve a factory reset for cases where the manufacturer directs it or ordinary restart and re-pairing have failed. A reset can remove captures, pairing information, and device settings. If you cannot confirm that recordings have synchronized, do not reset merely because a transcript is delayed.

How do the troubleshooting paths differ by device or integration?
The same symptom can have different causes because products start recording, store audio, and synchronize in different ways. The documented distinctions below explain what each source establishes and what it does not.

What is the safest end-to-end troubleshooting order?
Work from the least destructive test to the most disruptive recovery action. Stop as soon as the missing stage is identified; changing several settings at once makes it harder to know what fixed the problem.
- Observe the session. Start a recording and confirm an LED, vibration, on-screen state, or active-session indicator.
- Run a controlled test. Record 20–30 seconds in a quiet room, speak clearly, stop, and look for a new conversation or file.
- Verify permissions. Confirm microphone access and that the companion app is allowed to run as required in the background.
- Repair the connection. Keep the phone close, toggle Bluetooth, restart the app, and use the manufacturer’s app-based pairing path.
- Allow synchronization. Open the phone app near the wearable and wait for any local recording to transfer before checking another device or web view.
- Separate transcript generation. If audio is present, check the correct conversation view, account connection, usage status, and the service’s transcript or summary support category.
- Restart and escalate. Restart the app and wearable, then unpair and re-pair. Factory-reset only after checking for backups and following current official instructions.
For exact button sequences, firmware-specific behavior, and warranty eligibility, use the manufacturer’s current support page for your model. The sources above demonstrate why a single “Bluetooth fix” cannot cover every AI wearable.

What information should I have ready before contacting support?
Tell support which stage failed and what you observed. Include the wearable model, phone model and operating system, companion-app version if shown, whether the device displayed a recording indicator, whether a local file or conversation appeared, and whether the failure was capture, transfer, transcript, or summary generation.
Describe the controlled test rather than only saying “it does not work”: where the phone was, whether Bluetooth was enabled, whether the app was open, what indicator appeared, and what happened after you stopped recording. This lets support send the correct capture, import, pairing, or transcription procedure instead of repeating unrelated steps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a wearable record while the phone is out of Bluetooth range?
It depends on the product’s storage design. Limitless documents local storage on the Pendant when it is away from the phone or Bluetooth is off, but the available documentation does not establish the same behavior for every wearable. Check the model’s own instructions before relying on offline capture.
How long should I wait before deciding that synchronization failed?
The cited support pages do not promise a universal sync time. Open the companion app near the wearable, keep the connection available, and wait for the app to finish its transfer state; if no local file or conversation appears afterward, contact the manufacturer with the test details.
Is there a universal AI-wearable transcription accuracy percentage?
No industry-wide accuracy figure is established by the official troubleshooting sources used here. Accuracy depends on the device, microphone conditions, language, and service, so troubleshoot whether audio was captured and transferred before judging the transcript.
Can I troubleshoot without erasing recordings?
Usually, begin with permission checks, an app restart, Bluetooth recovery, and re-pairing. Avoid factory reset until you have confirmed that recordings are backed up and read the model’s instructions; the Ray-Ban Meta FAQ specifically warns that factory reset deletes captures.
