Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4: At First Glance

So far, Acer has been able to offer some of the best big-screen laptops at a reasonable price. A perfect example is the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4.

The Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 is a 15.6-inch laptop that comes with a lot of features and impressive components at a decent price. To give more details, this laptop had a starting price of $419 as of the time I wrote this review in December 2021.

Now the question is, will a laptop with such a low price tag deliver an adequate performance? Read on to satisfy your curiosity.

Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4: Design, Dimensions, and Weight

When it comes to the design, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 does not have a fancy design. However, it does have an impressive solid build quality.

To give more details, the laptop is made of high-quality plastic material. Moreover, the color of the laptop is obsidian black – giving the laptop a sort of golden sheen.

Apart from its unique color, the body of the laptop has a nice texture that ensures it is not magnetic to fingerprints. This means that you will not have to wipe the laptop’s body constantly to avoid fingerprint dirt.

Moving over to the lid, the “obsidian black” lid features a light crosshatched pattern. Impressively, there is no creaking when you open the lid – it opens smoothly.

Moreover, opening the laptop’s lid reveals a 15.6-inch display. This display features FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution.

Additionally, the display produces vivid and vibrant colors thanks to its FHD resolution. Also, the display comes with a matte coating to guard it against annoying fingerprints and smudges.

Above this 15.6-inch display is a high-definition webcam. Impressively, this webcam supports High Dynamic Range.

Therefore, the webcam will be brilliant for making video conference calls. However, the webcam isn’t ideal for taking pictures.

When it comes to the keyboard, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 features the standard chiclet-type keyboard. The keys on this keyboard are spacious and feature just the right amount of key travel.

If you’re wondering, the “key travel” of the keys in a keyboard is the distance between the key’s rest position and how far it dips when you press it.

The “key travel” of the keys in a keyboard is important because it affects your typing experience.

Interestingly, the keyboard is also backlit which allows you to type easily in dark or dimly-lit areas.

That said, below the keyboard, you will find a fairly large touchpad. With the help of Acer precision driver, this touchpad offers accurate navigation and responsive touch.

Moving on, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 comes with a satisfactory sound system. To be more specific, the laptop features dual stereo speakers that produce accurate sound.

Moreover, the speakers are located at the base of the laptop and they are loud enough to fill a small and medium-sized room with sound. Impressively, the laptop’s speakers hardly produce distortion when playing a song or watching videos.

As for the ports and connectivity, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 features one USB 2.0 port, two USB 3.0 ports, and one USB Type-C (USB 3.1) port. Additionally, this laptop has an HDMI port for extending the display to larger screens like HDTVs, projectors, and monitors.

Moreso, this laptop also has an SD card reader, a headset jack, and an Ethernet port. Surprisingly, Acer goes the extra mile to include an in-built DVD drive on the laptop.

It is worth noting that these ports are distributed on the sides of the laptop.

Moving to the dimensions of the laptop, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 measures 381.6 x 259 x 30.2 mm (W x D x H). With this measurement, this laptop isn’t particularly a portable laptop.

In fact, it is not as portable as the ASUS UX330UA AH54 that measures 322.58 x 220.98 x 12.7 mm (W x D x H).

When it comes to weight, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 weighs 2390 g, which is practically heavy. Comparatively, weighing just 1179.34 g, the ASUS UX330UA AH54 is far lighter than this Acer laptop.

All things considered, I will rate the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 an eight out of ten in this design, dimension, and weight review section.

Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4: Processor (CPU) Performance

In the aspect of the processor, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 comes with an Intel Core i5-7200U processor. This processor features a 2.50 GHz base frequency and a 3.10 GHz boost frequency.

Additionally, the processor features a 3 MB cache memory.

With these features, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4’s processor should be able to easily handle any computing tasks you throw at it. Also, thanks to this processor, the laptop will certainly offer adequate performance for multitasking.

For example, the laptop should be able to successfully open 10 tabs on Google Chrome without lagging. Moreover, these 10 Chrome tabs may also include videos streaming from YouTube, Pandora, and Netflix.

Additionally, you will be able to switch among these tabs seamlessly without any lag or buffering.

To further prove the performance of the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4, I will now share the laptop’s result on a Geekbench 4 benchmark test. Briefly, Geekbench 4 is a synthetic benchmark tool that measures the overall performance of a system’s processor.

Additionally, on this Geekbench 4 test, a high score indicates more outstanding performance.

Thus, based on the Geekbench 4 test result, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 scored 6,974 points. Comparatively, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 slightly outperform the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 which scored 6,742 points.

In addition to outperforming one of its closest competitors, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4’s score also surpasses the category average of 6,500 points.

With all that said, it will be nice to rate the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 an eight out of ten in this CPU review section.

Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4: Memory (RAM) Performance

In terms of memory, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 comes with a standard memory of 8 GB DDR4-SDRAM. Impressively, this laptop features two RAM slots.

Thus, you will be able to upgrade the laptop’s RAM to the maximum capacity of 32 GB. However, this review focus on the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 with 8 GB.

Performance-wise, with 8 GB RAM on the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4, you will be able to open up to 20 chrome browser tabs without experiencing any lag. Besides, switching between the chrome tabs won’t be an issue either.

This claim is supported by the laptop’s impressive PCMark 8 test result. To clarify, PCMark 8 is a benchmark test that measures a laptop’s ability to multitask and handle day-to-day computing tasks like web browsing.

Just to be clear, in the PCMark 8 test result, the higher the laptop’s score, the better the performance. So, on the PCMark 8 test, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 got a score of 3429 points, which is practically above average.

Hence, with this test result, it is okay to say that this laptop is powerful enough to handle any computing task. Also, you will be able to conveniently multitask on the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 with 8 GB RAM.

The Acer E5-575G-57D4’s impressive performance doesn’t stop there as it successfully outperforms the Lenovo Yoga C640 on the PCMark 8 test. To be more specific, the Lenovo Yoga C640 scored 3313 points on the PCMark 8 test.

In conclusion, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D supports memory expansion up to 32 GB. Besides, 8 GB RAM on the laptop will deliver enough power for most computing tasks.

Therefore, the Aspire E5-575G-57D4 deserves a nine out of ten in this memory review section.

Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4: Storage Options and Performance

When it comes to storage, a 256 GB SATA SSD storage is provided for the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4. To be honest, 256 GB of storage space may not be enough for most users.

Unfortunately, 256 GB is also the maximum storage capacity that the laptop supports. Therefore, you can’t upgrade the laptop’s storage to more than 256 GB.

On a positive note, if the 256 GB isn’t enough for you, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 comes with an SD card reader for storage expansion.

With all that being said, let us now discuss how the laptop’s SSD storage fared in a file transfer test. Since SSDs are known to be fast, one would expect exceptional performance from the laptop in this file transfer test.

Thankfully, that is exactly what the laptop delivers. Specifically, the laptop was able to transfer 4.97 GB of multimedia files at a whopping transfer rate of 195.74 megabytes per second (MB/s)

Comparatively, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 has a better transfer rate than the Dell Inspiron 15 5000. Specifically, based on the same file transfer test, the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 delivered a transfer rate of 89 MBps.

That said, to further prove how fast the Aspire E5-575G-57D4’s SSD is, I will now share the laptop’s result on a Crystaldiskmark test. Crystaldiskmark is a benchmark test that is used to measure the read and writes speed of a computer’s storage drive.

In case you are wondering, read speed means how fast a computer’s storage is able to open a file. Write speed, however, is how long it takes the storage to store a file.

Therefore, according to the Crystaldiskmark benchmark test, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 has a sequential read speed of 514.9 MB/s. In addition to that, the laptop also has a sequential write speed of 3423.2 MB/s.

Comparatively, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 has a faster read and write speed than the Acer Nitro 5 Spin. Specifically, according to the same benchmark test, the Acer Nitro 5 Spin has a sequential read and write speed of 484 MB/s and 408.5 MB/s respectively.

In conclusion, although the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 offers limited storage space, its SSD is very fast compared to its competitors. Therefore, I will be rating the laptop an eight out of ten in this review section.

Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4: Graphics Card Performance

In terms of the graphics card, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 features NVIDIA GeForce 940MX Graphics. This graphics card offers a base frequency of 1004 MHz and a maximum frequency of 1242 MHz.

Moreover, this GPU also offers a dedicated VRAM of 2 GB DDR3. As a laptop with a dedicated graphics card, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 should be able to run most title AAA games.

In fact, according to notebookcheck.net, the laptop is able to play Minecraft at 60 frames per second. However, with its graphics card, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 can only run modern games smoothly in low graphics settings.

Therefore, you will experience some lag when playing modern games in high graphics settings on the laptop. Notwithstanding, less demanding or outdated games like FIFA 12 and Asphalt 8: Airborne will run smoothly on the laptop in whatever graphics settings.

That said, now let us discuss the Aspire E5-575G-57D4’s performance on a 3DMARK test. Briefly, 3DMARK is a GPU benchmark test that analyzes how a laptop can render graphics in 3D.

Furthermore, on this benchmark test, the higher the score, the better the graphics performance. So, on the 3DMARK test, the Acer E5-575G-57D4 scored 2037 points.

Unfortunately, this score is way below the category average of 4705 points. Also, when compared to the Acer Nitro 5 Spin, the Acer E5-575G-57D4 performed woefully.

To be more specific, on the 3DMARK test, the Acer Nitro 5 Spin scored an impressive 6744 points.

Based on all the information above, I believe the Acer E5-575G-57D4 deserves nothing more than eight out of ten in this section of the review.

Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4: Battery life and Performance

When it comes to the battery, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 makes use of a 6-cell 2800 mAh (Li-Ion) battery. Impressively, on a video playback test, this battery lasted about 9 hours and 15 minutes.

For clarity, the video playback test involves setting the laptop’s brightness to 230 nits. After that, increase the laptop’s volume level to 50%, then loop a 4K video till the laptop battery runs low.

Nine hours of battery life may be impressive, but if you use the laptop for less-demanding tasks, you can expect a much longer battery life. For the charge time, it takes around 3 hours for the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 to charge from 0% to 100%.

This charge time might be long, but considering the battery life that comes after the full charge, the wait is totally worth it.

Despite the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 offering an impressive 9 hours battery life, there are still some laptops that offer longer battery life. A typical example is the Lenovo Yoga C640.

Specifically, the Lenovo Yoga C640 lasted an amazing 16 hours on the same video playback test.

On a more positive note, the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 has a better battery life than the HP Spectre x360. Specifically, the HP Spectre x360 lasted only 8 hours and 45 minutes on the video playback test.

After thorough consideration, I will rate the Acer Aspire E5-575G-57D4 an eight out of ten in this battery review section.
