Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →To access Dropbox from PHP, register a Dropbox app, authorize a user with OAuth 2.0, and send authenticated HTTPS requests to the Dropbox API. This guide explains the server-side setup and the request flow for listing a folder and downloading a file. Dropbox does not list an official PHP SDK, so you can use direct HTTP requests or evaluate a community library.
Choose how PHP will call Dropbox
Dropbox’s official SDK page lists community PHP libraries, including Spatie’s dropbox-api and Kunal Varma’s dropbox-php-sdk. These are third-party projects, not libraries developed or maintained by Dropbox. The same page points developers to Dropbox’s HTTP documentation for building a client.
For a small integration, direct HTTPS requests keep the API calls visible and limit extra dependencies. A library may provide a more convenient reusable client, but check its current maintenance, PHP/runtime requirements, OAuth support, endpoint coverage, and error handling before adopting it. The available documentation does not establish which community library is currently the best choice.
Register an app and set its access
- In the Dropbox App Console, create an app and select the content-access type that fits the integration. App Folder access limits the app to its designated folder; Full Dropbox access permits broader access to the user’s Dropbox, subject to consent and permissions.
- Configure the redirect URI that your PHP application will handle after authorization. It must match the URI configured for the app.
- Enable only the OAuth scopes required for the operations you plan to perform. Scopes determine which API actions a token can authorize; they do not by themselves expand the app’s content-access type.
- Keep the app secret on the server. Do not put it in browser code, a public repository, or a URL exposed to users.
Dropbox recommends requesting the least permission needed. A list or download workflow therefore needs the relevant file-access permissions, not unrelated access.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Authorize the user with OAuth 2.0
For a server-side PHP web application, use Dropbox’s authorization-code flow. Redirect the user to Dropbox to sign in and approve access, then handle the authorization response at your configured redirect URI. Use a securely generated, verified state value to protect the flow against cross-site request forgery.
Exchange the authorization code on the server, using the app credentials and redirect URI, for tokens. Send the access token with API requests in an Authorization: Bearer header. Dropbox access tokens are short-lived; the token response includes expiration information. Store tokens securely, restrict access to them, and never log or expose them unnecessarily.

If the application only calls Dropbox while a user is actively interacting with it, a short-lived access token may be sufficient. For background or offline access, request offline access and use the refresh token returned by the authorization flow to obtain new access tokens. Users can revoke authorization, so the application must be able to handle a token that no longer works and prompt for authorization again when needed. See Dropbox’s OAuth guide for current flow details.
List a folder and handle pagination
Use Dropbox API v2’s files/list_folder endpoint to retrieve entries for a folder. Send the request as an authenticated HTTPS request, with the folder path in the JSON request body. Check Dropbox’s current HTTP API reference for the canonical URL, required headers, and request and response formats before implementing the call.

A response may not contain every entry in a large folder. Process the entries returned, check has_more, and, when it is true, call files/list_folder/continue with the response cursor. Continue until the response indicates there are no more entries. Do not assume that one request represents the complete folder.
Download file content
Use the files/download endpoint for a file download. Unlike the folder-listing response, a download returns file content; handle the response as content rather than assuming it is ordinary JSON metadata. Choose the file identifier or path based on the list response and the current API requirements, then stream or save the returned bytes using the behavior appropriate for your application.

Verify the endpoint’s required headers, argument format, and response metadata in Dropbox’s HTTP reference. If you use a community library, confirm that its download method handles the current API response as expected.

| Response or symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 400 Bad Request | Malformed request or invalid arguments. | Inspect the request body, headers, and endpoint-specific requirements, then correct the request. Retrying the unchanged request will not fix it. |
| 401 Unauthorized | Invalid, expired, or revoked token, or permissions insufficient for the requested action. | Refresh the access token when applicable; if authorization was revoked or consent is no longer sufficient, send the user through authorization again and request the necessary scope. |
| 403 Forbidden | The user or team lacks access, or an account or plan restriction applies. | Resolve the underlying access or account restriction. Repeating the same request does not grant permission. |
| 409 Conflict | An endpoint-specific conflict. | Read the error details and follow that endpoint’s guidance; retry only when appropriate for the reported condition. |
| Rate limit or transient server failure | Request volume or a temporary service condition. | Reduce unnecessary repeated calls and use sensible backoff for retryable failures, following any response guidance. |
Dropbox’s error-handling guidance distinguishes these cases. Avoid a blanket retry loop: malformed requests, authorization failures, access restrictions, rate limits, and temporary failures need different responses.

Account for Dropbox team spaces
Personal Dropbox paths and team content do not always share the same root. In Dropbox team configurations, paths are interpreted relative to a namespace, and a team space may not be visible with the default path context. When working with team content, determine the appropriate namespace and use the Dropbox-API-Path-Root header where required. Consult Dropbox’s namespace guide; a personal-account example should not be assumed to work unchanged for every team setup.
