The Apple TV app is the place to find and watch supported content; it is not a subscription that unlocks everything shown there. The paid service once called Apple TV+ is now branded Apple TV. It includes Apple Originals and, in the United States, certain sports, while channels, third-party subscriptions, and some movies and shows cost extra. Apple’s US page listed the subscription at $14.99 per month and showed a seven-day trial when checked on October 4, 2026; offers and prices can change.

Apple’s current product pages use “Apple TV” for the subscription and “Apple TV app” for the software. Apple TV+ is the former service name, not a second subscription. The distinction matters: installing the app is not the same as subscribing to the service.
What the Apple TV subscription includes
The subscription centers on Apple Originals, including series, films, documentaries, and other programming. Its catalog and availability can differ by country and over time.
Sports included in the US offer
Apple’s US page lists Formula 1, Major League Soccer (MLS), and Friday Night Baseball as included at no extra cost with the subscription. Sports availability and required devices or software can vary by region and configuration, so the US lineup should not be assumed to apply everywhere.

MLS from the 2026 season
Apple announced on November 13, 2025 that every MLS match would be available to Apple TV subscribers beginning with the 2026 season, and that standalone MLS Season Pass would end after the 2025 season. The announced coverage includes regular-season matches, the Leagues Cup, MLS All-Star Game, Campeones Cup, and Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. See Apple’s announcement for the details.
What the app shows that is not included
A tile appearing in the Apple TV app does not mean its price is covered by the Apple TV subscription. The app may bring several types of content together:

- Third-party apps and services: Connected services may appear in the app, but their branded subscriptions are billed separately.
- Store rentals and purchases: Some movies and shows are offered for a separate rental fee or purchase price.
- Your Library: The app can display eligible content you already own or have access to; the Library does not make every item part of the subscription.
Some devices do not support making purchases or starting subscriptions directly in the app. You may still be able to access eligible content purchased or subscribed to elsewhere by signing in with the same Apple Account.

Apple’s US page displayed a monthly price of $14.99 and a seven-day free trial in the offer shown for the 2026 MLS season when checked on October 4, 2026. Apple TV may also be available through Apple One, whose bundle contents and availability vary by region. Eligible Apple TV subscriptions can be shared through Family Sharing with up to five other family members, according to Apple Support.

The Apple TV app is available on supported Apple devices as well as selected smart TVs, streaming devices, and game consoles. Apple’s device list identifies supported platforms. The subscription is watched through supported app-and-device combinations; not every feature or title is available in every country, region, or hardware configuration.

Which one do you need?
- If you want to browse or play content supported by your device, you need the Apple TV app. Opening it does not automatically start a paid subscription.
- If you want Apple Originals and included subscription programming, subscribe to Apple TV, the service formerly called Apple TV+.
- If you want a channel, third-party streaming service, or a Store movie offered for rent or purchase, expect a separate subscription or charge unless the offer explicitly says otherwise.
