Contemporary coverage described some owners saying they planned to return the headset, citing comfort, eye strain, bulk, limited apps or functionality, and a lack of everyday use. Those accounts were anecdotal; they do not establish how many buyers returned one.
What was the February 2024 deadline?
MacRumors reported that launch-day buyers who received their Vision Pro on February 2, 2024, reached the end of the reported 14-day return window on Friday, February 16. That date applied to that launch-day cohort; it was not a continuing or universal deadline. MacRumors reported the date and accounts of owners considering returns.
The original headline’s language about owners “scrambling” should be read as a description of a moment in 2024, not evidence of a mass return wave. Neither the cited coverage nor its social-media examples provide a measured return rate or a representative survey.
Why did some owners reportedly consider returning it?
MacRumors summarized reasons people gave on social media, including eye strain, discomfort, the headset’s bulk, a perceived lack of apps or functionality, and difficulty finding a day-to-day use for it. These were reported individual reactions, not a ranked or representative account of Vision Pro owners.

HotHardware contributor Thiago Trevisan offered a different but also personal assessment of the headset’s uses: he found browsing, web use, music, and video enjoyable, while productivity felt less satisfying without suitable keyboard and mouse input. His February 2024 discussion was commentary based on his experience, not a current comparative test. He wrote, “I, for one, have decided to keep it past its return period to truly give it a chance and see where Apple takes the technology, step-by-step.” Read Trevisan’s February 2024 assessment at HotHardware.
What did the coverage say about price and apps?
HotHardware cited a $3,499 MSRP for the Vision Pro in its February 2024 article and questioned whether the value justified the use cases it observed at the time. That is a historical price reference, not current pricing or a present-day value comparison. The same article described the Meta Quest 3 as a lower-cost alternative in 2024; it does not establish which headset currently costs less or is a better fit.

HotHardware also reported that the Vision Pro had 600 apps at launch and over 1,000 shortly afterward. Those are figures reported in 2024, not current App Store counts. MacRumors noted that the $200 Vision Pro Travel Case could also be returned at the time; that is likewise a historical price mention, not current pricing.
What are Apple’s return rules now?
For eligible purchases made directly from Apple in the United States, Apple’s current help page says the standard return window is 14 calendar days from receipt. Returned products should include the cords, adapters, and documentation supplied with them. Purchases from other retailers are governed by those sellers’ policies. Check Apple’s U.S. returns and refunds terms and verify the applicable policy for the purchase channel and country before relying on a deadline.

If you are deciding what to do with a headset you recently bought, first check the order date, receipt date, seller, country, and the terms that apply to that transaction. Then evaluate the device against the tasks you actually plan to use it for rather than relying on 2024 commentary.
