To turn a Meshy AI model into a 3D-printable file, check and repair the mesh, set its real-world size, export it in a format your slicer supports, then orient and inspect it in that slicer before printing. Exporting alone does not make a model ready for a particular printer: scale, build-volume fit, wall thickness, supports, and the sliced layer preview still matter.
1. Generate a model that can be checked for printing
Meshy’s workflow guide describes creating a model from a text prompt or with Image to 3D. For its photo workflow, Meshy suggests an image at least 1024 × 1024 pixels, with a plain background, the subject filling 70–90% of the frame, and the entire subject visible. Those are Meshy’s input suggestions, not universal requirements for image-to-3D tools.
2. Remesh only if the model needs it
If the geometry is unnecessarily dense or difficult to work with, Meshy recommends using Remesh and targeting 20K–50K faces. Meshy presents this as a way to keep file sizes manageable and improve slicer performance while retaining visible detail at print scale. It is a vendor recommendation, not a universal polygon limit; whether reduction is useful depends on the model and the detail you need to preserve.
3. Check and repair the mesh
Run Meshy’s Printability Check before exporting. Meshy says the check looks for non-manifold edges, holes or open loops, non-watertight geometry, degenerate faces, and loose geometry. If it flags defects, Meshy offers Repair Printability. These checks can catch mesh problems, but they cannot decide whether the model is correctly sized, has suitable walls, or is oriented and supported for your printer.

Meshy reports that, in its own testing, 97% of generated character and figurine models sliced successfully with zero manual fixes after auto-repair. The help article does not provide the test method or year, and this vendor-reported result is limited to the stated model types and condition; it is not a guarantee for an individual file or printer.
4. Decide whether to split the model
Use Auto Split only if it solves a real problem, such as a model exceeding the printer’s build area, the need to print separate color sections, or a need to orient parts more effectively. Meshy says the feature detects natural boundaries and caps the resulting pieces. Its guide describes Auto Split as available only for untextured draft models and costing 10 credits; eligibility and credit pricing can change, so check the current Meshy interface before relying on it.

Meshy gives 200–260 mm as a typical printer build-volume range, but that is not a specification for your machine. Check the usable build dimensions for the exact printer and confirm that each intended part fits.
5. Set the model’s physical dimensions
Use Meshy’s resize tool to set the intended real-world dimensions before downloading. Then verify the imported size in the slicer: a model can have clean geometry and still be unusable if it is too large, too small, or outside the printer’s build area.

6. Choose an export format
Pick the file type according to what your slicer can import and whether you need color or multipart information. Meshy’s format guide distinguishes the common options this way:

Meshy’s workflow guide also lists OBJ and GLB as options for resin printing and visual reference. Check that the destination software accepts the chosen format and that it handles the data you need.

7. Import, orient, and slice the file
Meshy lists Bambu Studio, Cura, OrcaSlicer, Creality Print, Elegoo Slicer, Ultimaker Cura, and Lychee Slicer in its workflow guide. Its 3D-printing page also lists PrusaSlicer and says one-click sending to Bambu Studio is available on paid plans. These are vendor-stated compatibility and integration details, not a ranking; availability can depend on current software and account versions.
- Open the exported file in a slicer compatible with its format.
- Check the imported dimensions and confirm that the model fits within the printer’s usable build area.
- Orient the part so it has a suitable contact surface on the build plate, and inspect overhangs.
- Choose supports where needed, then set process parameters using the printer, material, and slicer guidance for your setup.
- Inspect the layer preview for missing sections, unsupported areas, unexpected gaps, or parts outside the build area before sending the job to the printer.
Meshy suggests placing a flat surface on the build plate, adding supports for overhangs greater than 45°, using 0.2 mm as a standard layer height or 0.1 mm for finer detail, and a minimum 0.8 mm wall thickness for FDM. Treat these as starting suggestions from Meshy, not universal standards: printer, nozzle, material, orientation, and required strength all affect the right settings.
