There is no single best AI tool for every ecommerce store. For a Shopify merchant who wants to draft copy inside the store admin, start with Shopify Sidekick. For flexible brainstorming, consider ChatGPT; for brand-guided work across a larger team, evaluate Jasper; and for product copy that sits within an SEO and AI-shopping visibility workflow, consider Writesonic. These are workflow fits described by Shopify, not independently tested rankings. Choose based on your platform, catalog, team, and review process, then measure the results on your own product pages.

Which AI product-description tool fits your workflow?

Tool Best fit What the cited Shopify guidance describes What to consider
Shopify Sidekick Shopify merchants who want an in-admin starting point Drafts a suggested description from details supplied by the merchant, such as a product title and keywords, within the Shopify admin. Generation is not supported on iPhone or Android, according to Shopify Help. You still need to verify and edit the draft.
ChatGPT Merchants who want flexible brainstorming and different copy angles Shopify describes it as useful for varied product-description angles and related marketing copy through natural-language prompts. The cited source does not establish a native Shopify catalog workflow or comparative product-copy performance.
Jasper Teams that need brand-guided, repeatable content workflows Shopify describes Jasper Agents as supporting ecommerce content and SEO work, including product and category page copy, with brand voice and guidelines. Consider it when consistency at team or enterprise-oriented scale matters more than a minimal setup. The cited source does not establish that it performs better than other tools.
Writesonic Merchants combining product copy with SEO and AI-shopping visibility work Shopify describes an SEO and AI-search visibility platform with an agent for keyword-optimized product descriptions and related content, plus a shopping-visibility feature. Check current features and plan details before choosing it. The cited source does not establish comparative performance.

The comparison is about workflow, not a claim that one tool writes more persuasive or higher-converting copy. Shopify’s 2026 ecommerce SEO overview is the source for its descriptions of these tools; it does not provide an independent head-to-head test.

How to choose the right tool for your store

Start with where your catalog lives and how copy moves from draft to publication. A native Shopify workflow may reduce handoffs for a Shopify merchant. A separate general-purpose assistant can be useful when you want to explore multiple angles or create related marketing copy. For larger teams, assess whether the tool supports a consistent brand voice and repeatable approvals. If keyword optimization and AI-shopping visibility are part of the same effort, evaluate the broader workflow rather than judging a product-description feature alone.

  • Store platform: Decide whether drafting in your existing admin is important or whether a separate tool is acceptable.
  • Catalog and team scale: Distinguish occasional drafting for a few products from recurring work across a large catalog and multiple contributors.
  • Brand governance: Decide how writers will follow tone, terminology, and brand guidelines, and who approves final copy.
  • SEO workflow: Determine whether you need description drafting only or also keyword and search-visibility work.
  • Editorial control: Make sure people can review, edit, approve, and measure drafts before you expand their use.

Before committing, try a small set of representative products. Compare how much editing each draft needs, whether the output follows your guidelines, and how easily your team can review it. Do not infer conversion performance from a polished sample.

How to generate a stronger product description in Shopify

Shopify Help Center’s documented desktop workflow uses the product editor and the “Generate text” action. The prompt matters: Shopify recommends providing at least the product title and two feature or keyword items, with useful context such as the audience, tone, product type, material, fit, intended use, specifications, and important brand terms.

  1. Gather verified product information. Use an authoritative specification for the title, category, materials, dimensions, fit, intended use, care instructions, variants, and differentiators.
  2. Open the product in Shopify admin on desktop. In the product editor, select “Generate text.” Shopify says description generation is not supported on iPhone or Android.
  3. Write a specific prompt. Include the product title and at least two features or keywords, then add relevant specifications, intended buyer, needs, tone, required terminology, and search phrases. Keep confirmed facts separate from ideas you want the copy to explore.
  4. Request distinct drafts or angles. Treat the options as starting points. Choose and edit a draft rather than pasting output without review.
  5. Verify and format the copy. Check factual, comparative, safety, health, environmental, and performance statements against evidence. Remove unsupported benefits and superlatives, then review brand voice, clarity, scannability, accessibility, and any platform requirements.
  6. Save only after review. Shopify’s documented flow lets you edit and format the result before saving; published products display the saved description.

Why every AI-generated claim needs a human check

Shopify Help Center warns that generated text can include benefits the merchant did not explicitly list and facts derived from similar published products. Its guidance is clear: “You’re responsible for the accuracy of all of the content that you publish to your store, even when you use automatic text generation to create it.” A plausible sentence is not proof that a product has a particular feature, result, certification, or advantage.

Check every claim against product documentation or another appropriate source before publication. Pay particular attention to comparisons, safety or health language, environmental claims, and performance promises. If you cannot substantiate a statement, remove it or rewrite it as a question or neutral description only when that accurately reflects the product.

How to tell whether the new descriptions are working

Shopify’s writing guidance identifies product-page conversion rate, cart abandonment, return rate, customer support inquiries, and organic search rankings as possible metrics to monitor. No comparative effectiveness statistic in the cited Shopify material establishes that using AI—or any one tool—raises conversions. Treat outcomes as something to measure on your own pages, not a promised benefit.

  • Record a baseline for the pages you plan to change and choose a measurement period that gives the results enough time to be useful.
  • Where practical, use a controlled comparison, such as comparing changed pages with similar unchanged pages. Avoid attributing a change to copy alone if other page or marketing changes happened at the same time.
  • Track relevant outcomes together: a change in conversion rate may not tell the whole story if returns, abandonment, or support contacts also shift.
  • Use organic rankings as a monitoring measure, not proof that keyword-focused wording alone caused a change.
