For a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip, the safest way to replace the inner screen protector is to have Samsung or an authorized service centre do it. Samsung warns that removing the film or applying a non-official replacement can cause touch problems or damage the display. Its guidance is specific to Samsung; owners of other foldable brands should follow their manufacturer’s current instructions.
Why the inner protector needs special care
The inner protector is a film in the foldable display stack, above a protective layer and Ultra Thin Glass. It is not the display panel itself, nor should it be treated like an ordinary rigid-glass phone protector. Samsung says the film can be replaced, but wear such as scratches, bubbles, or lifting does not make arbitrary removal safe.
Samsung Support’s US FAQ says, “To avoid damaging the screen, we recommend you don’t remove the screen protector.” Its Singapore guidance says, “If you need to replace the protective film during use, please visit a service centre for assistance.” Samsung also warns that self-removal or non-official film can affect touch behavior or damage the panel. These are manufacturer cautions, not a claim that every attempted removal will cause damage.
Use Samsung or an authorized service centre
Samsung’s US support page says trained authorized specialists use special equipment and advises owners not to apply a Z-series protector themselves. Depending on the device and local eligibility, service may be available at an authorized walk-in facility or by mail. Confirm the service route with Samsung in your country before traveling or sending in the phone.

Availability, eligibility, price, and stock vary by market and model. For example, Samsung US says an eligible Galaxy Z-series device purchased through an authorized US retailer may qualify for one no-charge application within 12 months; later applications are listed at $19.99. Samsung lists participating options including uBreakiFix, Best Buy, Samsung branded stores, and mail-in service. In South Korea, Samsung Electronics Service lists ₩21,000 for the inner main-display film on specified Fold generations, including Fold2 through Fold8 Ultra/Fold8. The listing was dated February 27, 2026 and states that fees are as of August 2026; it also says the film is not sold separately and application is provided through service centres. If the film has already been removed
Samsung Singapore says touch behavior may be affected after removal because the touch setting was customized for the film. Turn off Touch sensitivity at Settings > Display, following Samsung’s guidance. This setting advice is for a film that has already been removed; it is not an endorsement of DIY removal.
Before arranging a replacement
- Identify the exact phone model and confirm the service applies to its inner main display, not the cover screen.
- Ask whether the provider is authorized for your market and whether your device qualifies for any stated service offer.
- Confirm the current out-of-pocket cost, local availability, and whether the correct film is in stock before traveling.
- If considering a third-party film, recognize that Samsung cautions against non-official film; the cited guidance does not establish aftermarket compatibility, durability, or performance.
- If warranty coverage is a concern, check the terms for your country and device. The cited Samsung pages warn of possible damage but do not say that removal automatically voids a warranty.
Why a DIY peel-and-install walkthrough is not the safe default
Samsung’s advice is to use a service centre and not to remove or apply the protector yourself. The cited support material does not provide a Samsung-approved home removal or installation procedure, so a step-by-step peel-and-install method would go beyond that guidance. For another foldable brand, do not assume Samsung’s service instructions or risks are identical; consult that manufacturer’s model-specific support.
