Choose Student if you qualify, Family if up to six people will share it, and Individual if you’re the only listener. If you already pay for other Apple services, compare Apple One using its current local price before deciding.

Apple lists compatibility with iOS, Android, Windows, Sonos, smart TVs, and more, so an Apple device is not required. Apple also advertises one month free for eligible new subscribers; the offer depends on eligibility and may vary, so check the offer shown when signing up. (Apple Music; Apple One)
Which Apple Music plan should you choose?
Choose Student if you meet Apple’s verification rules
At $6.99 per month, Student is the lowest listed price. Apple Support says it is for verified students enrolled in degree-granting higher education, including associate, bachelor’s, postgraduate, or equivalent study. Eligibility is not based simply on age or informal student status. Verification methods may vary by market and signup flow. (Apple Support: Get an Apple Music student subscription)

The student rate can last for up to 48 months. You must reverify your status; if you stop qualifying or reach the limit, Apple says the subscription renews at the Individual price. Check Apple’s current eligibility and verification steps before subscribing.
Choose Family when multiple people will actually use it
Family costs $19.99 per month and covers the subscriber plus as many as five other family members through Family Sharing. Each person keeps a separate library, recommendations, and playlists. (Apple Family Sharing)

As a simple illustration, dividing $19.99 by six actual participants works out to about $3.33 per person per month; with three participants, it is about $6.66 each. This arithmetic assumes the group can use Family Sharing and that everyone participates. The total charge remains $19.99 per month, regardless of how many members join.
Choose Individual for one listener
At $11.99 per month, Individual is the straightforward choice if you are the only listener and do not qualify for Student. It includes Apple’s listed subscription features without needing to coordinate a Family Sharing group.

Compare Apple One only if you want its other services
Apple describes Apple One as combining Apple Music with up to five other Apple services, but its retrieved U.S. page does not state a bundle price. Check the current price in your market and count only the services you already use or genuinely want; without that price and your own service mix, a break-even claim would be guesswork. (Apple One)
What does an Apple Music subscription include?
Apple lists ad-free listening, downloads for offline listening, lossless audio, Spatial Audio, and access to Apple Music Classical. Student includes Individual features, while Family adds separate personal libraries and recommendations for each member. (Apple Music)

- Confirm that you are viewing Apple’s pricing for your country; the figures above are U.S. monthly prices.
- Check the signup screen for the trial or promotion actually available to you.
- If choosing Student, verify that your institution and enrollment qualify, and note the re-verification and 48-month limit.
- If choosing Family, make sure the people who will join can use Family Sharing and will actually use the plan.
- If considering Apple One, compare its current local price against the Apple services you intend to keep.
