You can purchase a lifetime Linux.com email alias through the Linux Foundation’s Individual Supporter program. It is a forwarding address—not a mailbox—so messages go to an existing email account you choose. The Foundation’s published pricing lists $99 per year for Individual Supporter enrollment and a $150 email add-on; check the checkout page for current prices and terms.
What you get with a Linux.com email alias
The alias gives you an address ending in @linux.com that forwards incoming mail to an address you specify. It does not include a separate inbox, and the Linux Foundation says it does not provide SMTP, IMAP, POP3, or webmail. Sending messages from the Linux.com alias is not supported. The Foundation describes the feature as a “vanity email forwarding service only” (Individual Supporters; Linux.com Email Forwarding documentation).
That distinction matters if you need to reply from the branded address or manage mail in a standalone account. The alias is intended for receiving and forwarding messages; your existing destination account handles the inbox.
Eligibility and documented price
You must have an active Individual Supporter enrollment before you can buy the email add-on. The Linux Foundation’s program pages list Individual Supporter enrollment at $99 per year and the Linux.com Email Add-On at $150. These are figures published in the Foundation’s 2020 FAQ/program pricing, not a guarantee of today’s checkout total; confirm the amount and terms before paying (Individual Supporters; Purchasing the Individual Supporter Program).

The Foundation’s 2009 announcement described a $150 one-time fee for existing members and $249 total for first-year membership plus the lifetime benefit. Those are historical prices, not current checkout guarantees (2009 announcement).
How to purchase the alias
The Linux Foundation documents three ways to open the email add-on purchase flow. Use whichever is available to you:
- Sign in to My Profile and select the Linux.com Email “Purchase Email” action.
- After enrolling as an Individual Supporter, select the email purchase action on the order-confirmation screen.
- Open the Individual Supporter purchase-confirmation email and use its add-on action.
In checkout, enter the requested contact and billing details, provide payment information, accept the terms, and submit the purchase. These purchase routes and checkout requirements are listed in the Foundation’s lifetime Linux email alias purchasing guide.
Choose the alias carefully before paying
You can request a Linux.com address, but the Foundation only issues it if that name is available. Its documentation does not describe a public availability checker; contact Foundation support if you want to ask about a name or encounter a problem. The alias itself cannot be edited after purchase, so check the spelling and intended name before submitting. You can change the forwarding destination later (Purchasing Linux Email; Individual Supporters).

Does the alias stay active if membership expires?
The Foundation’s product documentation says the forwarding purchase is a one-time purchase and, once created, does not require an active Individual Supporter subscription. The supporter role itself lasts 12 months unless renewed. In other words, renewal of supporter status and continued use of an already-created forwarding alias are described separately by the Foundation (Linux.com Email Forwarding; Individual Supporters).
