Microsoft’s September 2026 Copilot roundup spans Teams and Outlook, Word and PowerPoint, SharePoint and OneDrive, mobile, Teams Phone, and IT administration. It includes features Microsoft reported rolling out in September, but also October and Frontier rollouts; those statuses do not mean every organization had access by September 30. Here is what changed and how to distinguish the updates.
How to read Microsoft’s rollout labels
Microsoft published its September 2026 Copilot roundup on September 30. The announcement says its dates are tentative and subject to change. “Rolled out in September” describes Microsoft’s reported rollout, not guaranteed access for every tenant or user on that date.

- September rollout: Microsoft says the feature began rolling out during September; access may still vary.
- October rollout: Microsoft places the rollout in October, so it is not a September release.
- Frontier: The item is identified as a Frontier rollout, not general availability to all users.
- General availability: Microsoft describes the capability as generally available, though an organization should still confirm its platform and licensing eligibility.
The roundup is an announcement, not an independent feature test or a complete licensing guide.
Copilot Chat, the Copilot app, and mobile
Teams and Outlook get a refreshed Copilot experience
Microsoft reported a September rollout of a refreshed Copilot design in Teams and Outlook, covering both full-screen and side-pane views. The update includes simplified navigation, a streamlined chat experience, and ways to organize work. In prompts, users can type / to invoke agents inline and @ to invoke skills. Microsoft also reported improved matching against scanned-PDF search results.
Copilot editing reaches Android
Copilot-powered editing in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel on Android was reported as rolling out in September, following an earlier iOS release. The roundup does not specify the eligible license or confirm availability for every Android user.
New app integrations and a plugin registry
Microsoft described new connectors, plugins, and agents for the Copilot app across manufacturing, business services, finance, healthcare and life sciences, energy, HR, software, and retail. Named providers and sources include Autodesk, Fiscal AI, Morningstar Credit Analytics, ClinicalTrials.gov, PubMed, Rystad Energy, Webflow, NielsenIQ, Cloudinary, and Contentsquare.
The Microsoft plugin registry, reported as rolled out in September, gives IT administrators a centralized place to discover, approve, and manage plugins. SharePoint Framework interactive components and SharePoint content and action tools in Work IQ are described as Frontier rollouts, rather than broadly available updates.
Record in the Copilot mobile app
Microsoft said the Copilot mobile app’s Record feature rolled out in September. It can capture an in-person conversation or voice note and produce a transcript and summary for follow-up work.
Edge’s new-tab experience is an October rollout
A new Copilot experience in Edge that brings web search, chat, and exploration together on a new tab is listed for an October rollout. It should not be counted as a September addition.
Teams Phone Agent handles receptionist tasks
Microsoft introduced Teams Phone Agent as an AI-powered calling receptionist and reported a September rollout. The company says it can answer common questions, book or reschedule appointments, route callers to a department or employee, and pass along an AI-generated call summary. Microsoft states support for more than 60 languages; the roundup provides no independent performance results or plan-by-plan licensing matrix.
Rank #3
Word and PowerPoint add grounded responses and reusable workflows
Word responses and visual editing
In Word, Copilot responses can show citations to relevant web and work content. Microsoft also reported that users can use Copilot to arrange and modify images and shapes. Both changes were listed as September rollouts.
PowerPoint Skills and connectors
PowerPoint Skills package multi-step workflows for reuse. Microsoft’s prebuilt examples include “Explain this presentation” and “Sharpen slide titles.” Administrators can publish approved Skills to selected users, groups, or the organization. PowerPoint connectors were also reported as rolled out in September.

Two related capabilities are scheduled for October in the roundup: Brand Kit support for Skills and the ability for Copilot to continue long-running work after a user leaves PowerPoint.
SharePoint and OneDrive updates
Copilot in SharePoint reaches general availability
Microsoft reported Copilot in SharePoint as generally available in September. The described capabilities include creating and organizing content, asking questions grounded in SharePoint, generating metadata, generating and editing images, producing site analytics reports, and near-real-time metadata autofill.
OneDrive gets an updated Copilot foundation
Microsoft said Copilot in OneDrive was rebuilt on the same foundation as Copilot in SharePoint and that updated capabilities rolled out in September. The company says OneDrive follows the same licensing approach as SharePoint, but the roundup does not map individual features to precise license requirements.
Copilot Search’s default experience remains a Frontier rollout
Making Copilot Search the default across SharePoint and OneDrive is described as a Frontier rollout. Microsoft says the search experience combines natural-language understanding, semantic retrieval, and AI-generated answers grounded in supported content the user is authorized to access. This is distinct from the SharePoint general-availability announcement and should not be read as a general release for all users.
New controls for Microsoft 365 administrators
Set authoritative sources for Copilot Search
Administrators can manage authoritative sources for Copilot Search in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Microsoft reported the feature as rolled out in September and says an admin can designate up to 100 SharePoint sites as authoritative. Controls include viewing, adding, removing, and bulk importing or exporting sources. The aim is to help Copilot Search and Chat identify verified official content.
Target Copilot adoption surveys
The Copilot Dashboard can launch targeted Pulse surveys using dynamically created audiences based on Copilot adoption data. Microsoft says survey reporting stays aggregated at the population level rather than exposing individual users’ sentiment. This was also reported as a September rollout.
What to verify before planning a deployment
The roundup does not provide a complete license matrix or establish that a particular feature is enabled for every organization. Before setting an internal launch date or promising access, check Microsoft’s current Microsoft 365 Copilot release notes and confirm licensing, tenant eligibility, platform, and release channel for the users involved. That matters especially when distinguishing generally available SharePoint capabilities from Frontier items and features assigned to October.
