Unlike the existing Ideas workspace, the new workspace is a user-owned SharePoint Embedded container, with governance, lifecycle management, and compliance processes Microsoft described as similar to OneDrive. Microsoft’s rollout dates are historical; its roadmap now marks the feature launched for the web in the worldwide standard multi-tenant cloud.
What is the new personal Loop workspace?
Microsoft Message Center notice MC929028 announced a personal workspace in the Microsoft Loop app, shared with Copilot Pages. Microsoft described it as one user-owned SharePoint Embedded container per user. In the notice, Microsoft said its governance, lifecycle management, and compliance processes would be similar to those for that user’s OneDrive.
This describes the workspace’s ownership and management model; it does not mean the workspace is OneDrive or that the notice specifies identical settings. See the archived MC929028 notice for the announcement and its dated updates.
How does it differ from the Ideas workspace?
The Ideas workspace was not a user-owned container. Microsoft said it would function as a shared Loop workspace, using shared-workspace infrastructure. The distinction is about ownership and container model, not simply a renamed personal workspace.

The dates in MC929028 were estimates that changed, not current availability guidance. The December 19, 2024 update gave a general-availability window of mid-January through late February 2025. A January 24, 2025 update revised that estimate to mid-February through late March 2025. The archived notice says it expired June 30, 2025.

The archived notice said no preparation was needed and that administrators could use policies to disable Loop workspace creation. It does not provide current configuration instructions or establish which policy settings apply in a given tenant today. For present-day setup or controls, consult current Microsoft administration documentation rather than relying on the expired notice.
