In iOS 27, Apple Intelligence can help you remove a distracting object, extend a photo beyond its original edges, or adjust its perspective after you take it. Open a picture in Photos and tap Edit to see which editing tools are available. What appears depends on your device, region, and language.
Choose the right tool for the photo
| What needs fixing | Tool | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| An unwanted object distracts from the subject | Clean Up | Removes distracting objects from the image. |
| The framing is too tight, you need a different aspect ratio, or straightening would cut off important content | Extend | Fills image areas outside the original frame. |
| The perspective or composition needs adjustment after capture | Spatial Reframing (Reframe) | Lets you preview and shift the photo’s perspective. |
Apple groups Clean Up, Extend, and Reframe among its iOS 27 photo-editing tools in its iPhone editing guide.
Remove a distracting object with Clean Up
Try Clean Up when an otherwise good photo includes an unwanted object in the background or foreground. Apple describes it as an Apple Intelligence editing tool for removing distractions, with an upgraded version designed to remove them with greater precision.
After applying it, inspect the edited area at full size, particularly near the subject’s edges or in detailed backgrounds. That check helps you decide whether the result looks natural enough to keep.

Add room around the image with Extend
Use Extend when a crop feels too close, you need a different aspect ratio, or straightening the horizon would otherwise trim something important. Apple says the tool fills the missing image areas exposed when you expand or straighten a photo. Because it creates content outside the original frame, review those new areas before saving or sharing the result.
Change the viewpoint with Spatial Reframing
Spatial Reframing, also called Reframe, is for adjusting how a photo’s perspective is presented after the shot. Apple says you can touch and drag to preview perspective changes; the model generates new content only in areas where the perspective has shifted. That makes it different from simply cropping away part of the existing image.

Check compatibility and availability
Apple lists iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max as compatible with Apple Intelligence in iOS 27. Apple Intelligence also requires supported device and system languages and is not available in every region. Apple announced Spatial Reframing in June 2026 as a way to improve a photo’s composition after it has been taken. Its description explains the intended use, but does not establish a guaranteed result for every image. Check the generated edit itself before deciding whether it improves your photo.
