The best free logo mockup is the one that presents your identity in the situation your audience will actually see: paper, a business card, a dimensional sign, packaging, or a broader brand system. The documented options below cover layered PSD files with smart objects, browser-based editors, and several file formats, but a page’s “free” label does not guarantee commercial rights or continued availability. This guide gives you a reliable shortlist of named examples, a 25-plus-scene selection framework, exact PSD workflow steps, and a license checklist so you can build a larger collection without trusting an unverified roundup.

What is a logo mockup, and why does the scene matter?

A logo mockup is an editable presentation scene that places your artwork on a realistic surface or object. Instead of showing a mark on a blank canvas, you can show how it appears on paper, a card, signage, packaging, apparel, a device screen, or another brand application. The scene, lighting, material, and viewing angle affect what a client notices, so the “best” file is a match for the presentation rather than a universal ranking.

Most downloadable templates are layered Photoshop (PSD) files. The logo is normally replaced inside a smart-object layer, while the main file supplies shadows, highlights, texture, perspective, and background. Some catalogs also provide browser editing or files for Figma and Sketch. Those options can help when you do not have desktop Photoshop, but the supported artwork, controls, and export formats differ by service and by item.

Which free logo mockup scenes are worth adding to a 25-plus collection?

A useful collection covers different presentation jobs. The list below is a selection framework: it names 25-plus scene briefs to look for, not 25 individually verified downloads. Availability, dimensions, software requirements, and license terms must be checked on each item page before you use or publish a file.

Paper and print scenes

  1. Logo printed on a clean sheet of paper
  2. Letterhead on a desk or stationery set
  3. Business card shown flat from above
  4. Business card in perspective
  5. Stacked cards showing front and edge
  6. Embossed or debossed paper
  7. Foil or metallic print on card stock
  8. Monochrome ink on textured paper

Dimensional and environmental scenes

  1. Square 3D logo with adjustable depth
  2. Perspective 3D logo viewed at an angle
  3. Raised lettering on a wall
  4. Storefront or exterior signage
  5. Interior sign or reception wall
  6. Etched mark on glass
  7. Engraved mark on wood or another solid material

Product and identity applications

  1. Box or mailer packaging
  2. Bottle, jar, or other container
  3. Tote bag or fabric item
  4. Shirt or other apparel
  5. Phone, tablet, or laptop screen
  6. Social-profile or avatar presentation
  7. Multi-item stationery or brand-board scene
  8. Product-category branding set

File and editing variants

  1. PSD smart-object scene
  2. Figma-editable scene
  3. Sketch-editable scene
  4. Browser-edited scene
  5. Scene supplied in more than one source format
  6. High-resolution square composition for portfolio use
  7. Wide presentation composition for a case study

These briefs prevent a common mistake: downloading five nearly identical card mockups while having no useful environmental, product, or dimensional view. For a small business presentation, two or three complementary scenes are usually more persuasive than a large folder of duplicates.

Which documented free logo mockup examples can you start with?

The table contains the specific examples and catalog capabilities documented for this topic. A statement on one site does not automatically apply to every file in that site’s catalog. Confirm the current item page before downloading or using an asset.

Example Scene or scope Format and editing Dimensions Software or editor Commercial-use statement Attribution and redistribution notes
Mockups Design paper logo mockup Logo presented on paper Layered PSD with a smart-object layer Not stated Photoshop workflow described Page description says commercial use is allowed No attribution required according to the listing; its license restricts distributing the file in open formats
ProLine square 3D logo PSD Square dimensional logo with four depth levels PSD with smart objects Not stated Photoshop workflow Personal and commercial use stated No attribution stated; verify the current item terms and do not assume source-file redistribution is allowed
Gitu square-card mockup Square card scene Layered PSD with smart-object insertion 5000 × 3750 pixels Photoshop CS6 or later Personal and commercial use stated on the page Check the current license at the item page
Gitu perspective 3D mockup Perspective dimensional logo scene Layered PSD with smart-object insertion 3600 × 2400 pixels Photoshop CS5 or later Personal and commercial use stated on the page Check the current license at the item page
Mockup Cloud free logo scene Smart-object logo scene; part of a wider paid logo mockup set Smart-object file Not stated Photoshop workflow described Not stated in the supplied description Read the individual item license before commercial use or redistribution
LS Graphics free mockups Various logo and branding scenes PSD, Figma, Sketch, and other formats for some scenes; some can be edited online Varies by item Desktop app or browser editor, depending on the file Free files may be used in personal and commercial projects Files may not be resold, redistributed, or shared as source files
Creatsy editable mockups Product-category branding scenes Editable PSD mockups and a browser editor Varies by product Photoshop or browser editor, depending on the product Free mockups may be used commercially subject to the stated limits Creatsy directs users to each product page for complete license terms

DesignersLab adds an important warning for catalog browsing: licenses are set by individual creators, and roughly half of its branding catalog is personal-use only. That makes the item-level license—not the catalog name or a search-result label—the deciding evidence.

How do you choose the right scene for a logo presentation?

Start with the audience and the claim you need the image to support. A scene should demonstrate a realistic application, not merely add decoration.

Match the material to the brand promise

  • Paper or cards: Use for identity presentations, stationery systems, consultants, agencies, and businesses whose first touchpoint is printed collateral.
  • 3D or signage: Use when depth, physical presence, retail visibility, or an environmental application matters. A dimensional scene can show how a simple mark survives lighting and perspective.
  • Packaging and products: Use for consumer goods, food, cosmetics, and makers who need the mark tied to a tangible product.
  • Browser or screen scenes: Use for digital products and services, but do not imply that a screen mockup proves an interface is finished.
  • Multi-item brand scenes: Use to show consistency across touchpoints after the core logo and spacing rules are settled.

Check the crop and output shape

A square card file can work well for a portfolio tile, while a 3600 × 2400-pixel perspective file is naturally wide. Decide where the image will appear before editing: a presentation slide, proposal PDF, portfolio case study, social post, or a print handout. Crop and export from the source file rather than stretching a portrait scene into a wide banner.

Prefer controllable lighting and background

Smart objects handle the artwork replacement, but a good file also lets you adjust background color, shadow strength, and highlights. If those layers are locked or merged, choose a different scene when the brand needs a specific background or contrast level. Do not judge a mockup only by its thumbnail; inspect the layer panel or browser controls first.

How do you insert a logo into a PSD smart-object mockup?

The basic process is consistent across the documented PSD examples. Mockups Design describes it this way: “You only need to paste your logo project into Smart Object layer and you’re good to go.” That is a description of its paper mockup, not a guarantee that every PSD uses identical layer names or settings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Download and open the file in a supported version of Photoshop. Check the item’s stated requirement first. The Gitu square-card file lists Photoshop CS6 or later; its perspective 3D file lists CS5 or later.
  2. Save a working copy. Preserve the original download so you can recover the untouched layers if an edit goes wrong.
  3. Find the smart-object layer. In the Layers panel, look for a thumbnail with the smart-object badge and a label such as “Place logo” or “Your design.” Names vary.
  4. Open the smart object. Double-click its thumbnail. Photoshop opens the embedded artwork in a separate document.
  5. Replace the placeholder artwork. Paste or place the logo, scale it proportionally, and hide or remove the sample mark. Keep the logo in the intended color mode and retain transparency where the scene requires it.
  6. Save the embedded document. Use Save, not merely Close. The main mockup updates only after Photoshop writes the smart-object contents.
  7. Return to the main composition. Check perspective, edge coverage, shadows, and contrast. A logo that looks correct in the smart-object document can still be too dark or too small in the finished scene.
  8. Export a presentation copy. Keep the layered PSD for future revisions, and export a flattened PNG or JPEG at the dimensions required by the destination.

Why a replacement can look wrong

  • Artwork is blurry: The source logo was too small, or the final export was enlarged beyond the mockup’s useful resolution.
  • Edges look distorted: The scene’s perspective transformation may be part of the smart object. Do not apply a second manual warp unless the template instructions require it.
  • Color appears different: Highlights, shadows, blending modes, or the material texture are affecting the mark. Review those layers before changing the logo’s original colors.
  • The file will not open: The Photoshop version or required format may be unsupported. Use a compatible desktop version or select a browser/Figma/Sketch option instead.

Can you use a browser editor or a non-Photoshop format?

Yes, when the individual item supports it. LS Graphics says some free mockups can be edited online and lists PSD, Figma, and Sketch files, with additional source formats for some scenes. Creatsy also provides a browser editor for its editable mockups. These options remove the need to operate a layered PSD, but they do not make every mockup interchangeable.

When browser editing is the better choice

  • You do not have a compatible Photoshop installation.
  • You need a quick client preview rather than a deeply customized composite.
  • The service exposes the background, logo placement, and export controls you actually need.

What to verify before uploading artwork

  • Accepted logo file types and whether transparency is preserved
  • Maximum upload dimensions or file size
  • Available export formats and pixel dimensions
  • Whether the editor stores uploaded artwork and for how long
  • Whether the resulting image may be used in commercial client work under that item’s terms

A browser editor is a convenience, not a license upgrade. Read the same item-level terms you would read for a downloadable PSD.

What do “free,” “commercial use,” and “no attribution” really allow?

“Free” describes access or price; it does not establish what you may do with the source file. A commercial-use permission may let you create a client presentation while still forbidding resale, redistribution, or sharing the editable mockup itself.

Check these permissions separately

  • Personal use: Whether private, educational, or noncommercial work is allowed.
  • Commercial use: Whether the rendered image can appear in paid client work, marketing, a portfolio, or a product launch.
  • Attribution: Whether the creator requires a credit in the image, caption, or project documentation.
  • Modification: Whether you may change colors, backgrounds, dimensions, or other layers.
  • Source-file handling: Whether you may send the layered PSD, Figma file, or other editable source to a client or colleague.
  • Redistribution and resale: Whether you may upload the template to a resource site, bundle it, sell it, or share it as a standalone download.

How the documented licenses illustrate the difference

Mockups Design’s paper listing says commercial use is allowed without attribution, while its license restricts distributing the file in open formats. LS Graphics likewise permits personal and commercial projects but says its files may not be resold, redistributed, or shared as source files. Creatsy says its free mockups may be used commercially subject to its limits and directs users to each product page for complete terms. DesignersLab’s statement that individual creators set licenses—and that roughly half of its branding catalog is personal-use only—shows why a catalog-wide assumption is unsafe.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep a copy of the license page or download terms with the project record. If a client asks for the editable source, explain that commercial use of the rendered presentation does not necessarily include permission to transfer the template.

What compatibility and resolution checks should you make?

Compatibility is specific to each file. The documented Gitu examples demonstrate the difference: its square-card mockup lists Photoshop CS6 or later at 5000 × 3750 pixels, while its perspective 3D mockup lists Photoshop CS5 or later at 3600 × 2400 pixels. Do not infer that another file from the same catalog has the same requirement.

How can you build and maintain a reliable 25-plus shortlist?

Use a spreadsheet or project note with one row per individual item. The goal is not to collect the most thumbnails; it is to retain enough evidence to make a safe choice months later.

  1. Capture the exact item name and source page.
  2. Classify the scene as paper, card, 3D, signage, product, screen, or broader branding.
  3. Record the file format.
  4. Record whether a smart object is present.
  5. Record whether browser editing is available.
  6. Record Figma availability where stated.
  7. Record Sketch availability where stated.
  8. Record any other supplied source format.
  9. Record pixel dimensions.
  10. Record orientation and crop shape.
  11. Record the minimum application version.
  12. Record whether the file opens without additional plugins.
  13. Record the stated personal-use permission.
  14. Record the stated commercial-use permission.
  15. Record attribution requirements.
  16. Record modification permission.
  17. Record restrictions on source-file sharing.
  18. Record restrictions on redistribution.
  19. Record restrictions on resale or bundling.
  20. Save the license text or a dated copy of the terms.
  21. Test the smart-object replacement with a transparent logo.
  22. Test the scene with a one-color logo.
  23. Check whether shadows and highlights can be adjusted.
  24. Export a sample at the intended delivery size.
  25. Mark the item for rechecking if the page, download, or terms change.

After this pass, select a balanced set: several print scenes, at least one dimensional or environmental scene, one product-oriented scene, and one browser or alternate-format option if your team does not share the same desktop software. Label any row with “not stated” instead of guessing. That preserves the difference between an unverified detail and a negative permission.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What should you avoid when downloading a free logo mockup?

  • Do not treat a search snippet as a license. Open the item page and read the current terms.
  • Do not transfer permissions between items. A commercial-use statement for one file does not cover another file on the same site.
  • Do not redistribute the source just because the rendered image is commercial. Source-file restrictions are common.
  • Do not choose a scene that misrepresents the application. A dramatic 3D wall does not substitute for a realistic stationery view when the client needs to approve print work.
  • Do not promise a permanent download. Catalog pages and free files can change; retain the terms and the version you used.
  • Do not call an unverified catalog a ranked “best 25.” A defensible roundup requires item-by-item checks of download status, dimensions, software, and license.

Which starting set makes sense for common projects?

Identity presentation for a service business

Begin with the Mockups Design paper scene or the Gitu square-card scene, then add one broader stationery or brand-board scene if the catalog’s item-level license supports your use. This combination shows both the mark and the system around it without implying a physical product that does not exist.

Brand with a physical product

Use a product-category scene from a catalog such as Creatsy, then pair it with a card or paper scene for the core identity. Confirm the exact product page’s terms; Creatsy’s catalog description explicitly directs users there.

Dimensional or retail identity

Compare ProLine’s square 3D scene with Gitu’s perspective 3D scene. ProLine advertises four depth levels, while Gitu states the dimensions and Photoshop version for its perspective file. Use the one whose angle and output shape match the presentation, not simply the one with the more dramatic thumbnail.

Team without a shared Photoshop setup

Look for an item that explicitly offers browser editing, Figma, or Sketch. LS Graphics documents those possibilities for some free mockups, and Creatsy documents a browser editor. Verify export controls and commercial terms for the exact scene before committing the project to it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the practical verdict on “25+ best” free logo mockups?

No responsible source can call 25 specific current downloads the best without checking each file’s availability, dimensions, software requirement, and license. The documented examples above are useful starting points, while the scene briefs and 25-point record let you expand to a larger collection without turning a catalog label into a legal or technical guarantee. Choose by presentation job first, then compatibility, resolution, and per-item license.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Photoshop to use a free logo mockup?

Not always. Some services provide browser editing, and some scenes are offered in Figma or Sketch formats, but support is item-specific. Check the editor, accepted upload type, and export options before downloading.

Can I send the editable PSD to my client?

Only if the item’s license permits source-file transfer. Commercial permission for the rendered image can coexist with a ban on sharing, reselling, or redistributing the layered mockup.

Does “no attribution” mean the mockup has no other restrictions?

No. It addresses credit only. You still need to check commercial use, modification, source-file sharing, redistribution, and resale clauses on the individual item page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which resolution should a logo mockup have for a portfolio?

Use the largest practical source that matches the destination and preserve the scene’s aspect ratio. Documented examples range from 3600 × 2400 to 5000 × 3750 pixels, so there is no single universal requirement.
