A 24-year-old man died after a crash on the northbound Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx early Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026. Police said the two-wheeled vehicle he was operating struck a guardrail near the Macombs Dam Bridge, ejecting him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Where and when did the crash happen?
The crash was reported at about 4:20 a.m. on the northbound Major Deegan Expressway. News 12 placed it near the Macombs Dam Bridge; ABC7 reported it was near Exit 5 in Highbridge. The outlets’ descriptions locate the same reported crash along the expressway, but do not establish a more precise point.
What happened?
According to police accounts reported by News 12 and ABC7, the man was operating a two-wheeled vehicle when it struck a guardrail. He was ejected and emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. News 12 reported police said he failed to navigate the roadway; that is a preliminary account, not a confirmed final finding about the cause.

Has the victim been identified?
ABC7 reported on Oct. 3 that the man’s identity had not been released pending notification of his family.

What is known about the investigation?
ABC7 reported that the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad was investigating. Both outlets reported that no arrest had been made at the time of their reports. Those are preliminary updates, not final investigative conclusions.
Were lanes closed?
News 12 reported that all northbound lanes at the Macombs Dam Bridge were closed as of 6 a.m. and reopened at 9 a.m. on Oct. 3.

What remains unconfirmed?
- The available reports describe the vehicle only as a two-wheeled vehicle or device. They do not establish whether it was a motorcycle, e-bike, scooter, or another type.
- The reports do not establish a final cause, fault, speed, impairment, or other contributing factor.
- The victim’s name was not available in ABC7’s report pending family notification.
