The 13 projects below are candidates identified in a LinuxLinks roundup published May 3, 2026—not a tested ranking. Their workflows range from Markdown documentation and blogs to WordPress exports and framework-based sites, so choose by fit and verify each project’s current requirements, license, and maintenance before adopting it.
How to choose a PHP static site generator
Start with the content you already have and the environment you want to maintain. A documentation site written in Markdown has different needs from a blog, a Laravel project, or a WordPress site that must be exported as static output.
- Match the source format: check whether you want Markdown, plain text with front matter, PHP files, or content managed in a CMS.
- Check the template model: the roundup describes Blade-based and other PHP-oriented workflows, but does not establish a uniform template system for every project.
- Check runtime prerequisites: the directly documented examples include PHP 8.1+ for PHPSSG and PHP 8.3+ for Cecil. Treat these as time-sensitive requirements and recheck the official project documentation.
- Confirm project health: verify current releases, license, documentation, and migration guidance in the project’s own repository. The roundup’s descriptions do not independently establish these details for all 13 entries.
There is no verified shared benchmark, maintenance ranking, or ease-of-use test across this list, so the projects are presented as options rather than ranked winners.
13 PHP static site generators and related options
LinuxLinks’s May 3, 2026 roundup names these 13 candidates and offers brief descriptions. The “starting point” column reflects that roundup, not an independent compatibility or quality assessment.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Notable project-specific details
PHPSSG: PHP templates and components
PHPSSG’s repository describes a lightweight, PHP-native approach built around plain PHP templates and composable or invokable components. It documents hooks, caching, incremental builds, PSR-4/Composer support, and PHP-DI for dependency injection. The stated prerequisites are PHP 8.1+ and Composer. These are project-authored feature descriptions, not independent performance findings. Check the PHPSSG repository for current documentation and licensing details.
Cecil: confirm its PHP version requirement
Cecil describes itself as a content-driven static site generator. Its repository currently states PHP 8.3+ and EUPL-1.2 licensing, and documents installation options including a downloadable PHAR, Homebrew, and Scoop. Check the Cecil repository for the current requirement and setup instructions, since version compatibility can change.

Statamic SSG: for an existing Statamic site
Statamic’s official static site generator is a package intended for a Statamic setup, not a minimal standalone PHP generator. Its repository documents installation with php please install:ssg and generation with php please ssg:generate. It also provides deployment examples for Netlify, Vercel, Surge, Firebase Hosting, and S3. See the Statamic SSG repository for package instructions and deployment details.
Staticka: Markdown and PHP inputs
Staticka’s official repository describes converting Markdown content and PHP files into static HTML and shows an MIT license. Its v0.4.0 migration notes mention a backward-compatibility break; that fact alone does not establish whether the project is actively maintained now. Review its official repository for current release and migration information before using it.

Can you deploy a PHP-generated site to GitHub Pages?
Yes, if PHP runs during the build and the published output consists of static files. GitHub Pages does not run server-side PHP. For generators other than Jekyll, GitHub’s documentation recommends a custom GitHub Actions workflow; alternatively, build the site locally or on another server, then publish the generated files. See GitHub’s static site generator guidance.
This distinction matters: a PHP generator creates HTML and related assets ahead of time, while the host serves those files to visitors. A PHP application that must execute on every request is not, by itself, a static site deployment.

What to verify before adopting one
- Install the project using its current official instructions, then make a small test build with representative content and templates.
- Confirm the minimum PHP version, Composer or other dependencies, and whether you need a framework or CMS already in place.
- Inspect the generated output and confirm that the target host can serve it without server-side PHP.
- Read the license and migration guidance in the official repository rather than assuming the roundup’s general characterization applies to every project.
- Check recent releases and issue activity directly. The available comparison does not establish a current maintenance ranking for the full list.
