He described a possible future—not a product readers could use at the time—where fans might interact with a creator’s AI counterpart.
What Zuckerberg said about Apple
Zuckerberg said Apple’s restrictions had stopped Meta from shipping features that Meta believed would serve its community. He called that experience “a little bit soul crushing” when a company’s features cannot ship because, in his view, another company wants to limit competition. That is Zuckerberg’s characterization of the dispute, not an independent finding about Apple’s motives. HotHardware reported his comments in its account of the interview.
His vision for creator AI agents
Zuckerberg pictured a system that could draw on a creator’s social-media information and be trained to reflect that person’s values, objectives and intentions. “I think there’s going to be a huge unlock where basically every creator can pull in all their information from social media and train these systems to reflect their values and their objectives,” he said. He also described the resulting agent as “almost like this artistic artifact that creators create that people can kind of interact with in different ways.” TechCrunch’s July 23 coverage describes the proposed fan interactions.
What the agent might do
In the scenario, fans could engage with an AI that represents a creator when the creator is unavailable. The idea addresses a basic constraint of online audiences: one person cannot personally answer every message or interact with every fan. The agent would be intended to make a creator’s perspective more accessible, rather than simply imitate a voice or appearance.

What was—and was not—available
The interview described a future possibility. The reporting does not establish that a complete creator agent trained on an individual’s social-media history, values and goals was available as a product then. Zuckerberg’s comments should therefore be read as a vision, not an announcement of a launched service or a promise about when one would arrive.
The trade-off: reach versus trust
An AI agent could let fans get responses or engage with a creator’s ideas beyond the creator’s own limited time. But the same distance between creator and audience creates risks. TechCrunch raised concerns about generative AI producing errors or hallucinations, and about whether fans would trust an agent to represent its creator accurately.
Rank #2
- Accuracy: An agent can generate a plausible answer that does not match what the creator thinks or would say.
- Disclosure: Fans need to know when they are interacting with AI rather than the creator personally.
- Authenticity: Delegating conversation may weaken the personal connection that helps make a creator’s audience meaningful.
Those are questions raised by the concept, not results from a test of a released product. Whether an agent would be useful depends on how clearly it is identified, how carefully it handles uncertain questions, and how much control the creator has over its responses.
